Trying to get prepared, any suggestions would help

Recommended Posts

I am just finishing up all my preop tests. My Dr. is sending in all the results to the insurance by mid January. Is there a preop diet that I would benefit from. I know there will be a preop liquid for one week prior, but is there something I can do to make myself healthier before surgery? Should I start taking Vitamins, low fat to shrink my liver or something so I won't have alot of Hair loss? I'm just trying to be prepared. Any advice would be great.

Well, you could always try to structure your meals more toward the way you will be eating in the future. Lean Protein, steamed or raw vegetables, whole grain carbs. Try to stay away from refined sugars (and all those sweets we all seem to love so much). To actually go on a pre-op diet now might cause a little burn-out when it is really important to be adhering to the pre-op diet.

Work at drinking 64 oz of Water per day, go ahead and give up sodas and any other carbonated beverages (you may be able to drink them with no problem in a few months but at first, they're no-nos).

Vitamns can't hurt you. You may have problems in the future swallowing large pills. Many bandsters use 2 Flintstones gummies per day as they are chewable and have an acceptable taste.

hair loss doesn't necessarily happen to everybody. Many of us have never had a problem. Usually, getting in the minimum of 60 grams of Protein per day is enough. Many of us do take a Biotin supplement, or our Multivitamin contains some Biotin.< /p>

Got any specific questions? Ask away. We'll try to answer!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
