Have not set a goal weight, what shoud it be

Recommended Posts

I have lost from 289lbs, to 214lbs. i am feeling pretty good. when i was healthy and active i use to weigh around 180 . but i was thinking if i get to 200 i will be happy. I am 6' tall and i guess a medium build. my hip bones are starting to show. but i still have some belly left to go. LOL. What are your goal weights. How long has it taken you to get there. I had surgery on august 10 2009.

I had lost weight before and made it to a size 16 and weighed 196. Since I am 5'3", I thought that I was still fat, but now I think that would be a good starting point. I will have to see if I am comfortable at that size again.

When I had my initial consultation, the NP asked me what my goal weight was. I have NEVER been at a healthy weight, so I have absolutely no idea.

I told her I'd rather start losing and when I see some significant changes, I'll think about a goal number.

She was actually really supportive of this and said so many people get hung up on the number and it can sabotage them in the end. She also said that some people NEED to have that number as a motivator to get them where they want to be.

Like everything else with this process, it varies so much with every individual. I'm looking forward to reading the other responses to this thread!

I'm shooting for the moon and a BMI of 25 or less.

The quotes below, say it all:

David J. Schwartz

"Think little goals and expect little achievements. Think big goals and win big success."

Charles C. Noble

"You must have long term goals to keep you from being frustrated by short term failures."

I have lost 62 pounds in four months. I haven't set an exact long-term goal yet. I just want to be a lot healthier than I've been this past year.

Hi Buckcreek, Your before/after pics show a very good transformation. I think just under 200 will look great on you. If you do get back down to the 180 range try not to go lower. You don't want to look or feel sickly. You are nice and tall, so don't forget to keep that in mind when trying to figure out your goal weight. My son (age 27) is 6'2" and looks healthy at 200lbs. Keep up the good work !

I think i will not worry about goals right now, as long as i am still losing and feeling good i am not going to worry about that. As for exercise i try to walk as often as possible but bad weather has slowed that down. i have some small dumbells that i curl and do other excersize about ever night. i do watch what i eat and try to keep the calories down to around 1000 a day. i was eating alot less but was not loosing as much as i did when i started eating more . the last couple of weeks have been tough to eat right. too much candy everwhere LOL. but i have still lost but not as much. I will get back to walking and start doing better after christmas. i think im getting burned out. I go back to Doctor on jan. 12 may get a fill to help me curb my appetite. thing is i dont really get hungry now but i am getting tempted very easily...guess i need a pep talk. I took a drink of diet coke this eve. firt ive had since surgery, but my son took it away from me and poured it out..I guess he has my back..LOL

My goal weight is a BMI of 25 just putting me into the "normal weight" category which for me is 205 lbs because I am 6ft 4 inches.

I have about 20lbs to go and am looking forward to it. In a ideal world I would like to drop a further 15 -20 lbs to get into the middle of the category but at this stage I dont know if that is achievable.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
