What could it be? Should I worry?

Recommended Posts

For the past couple of weeks I have been very sore all around my port. Mine is on the muscle under my right breast. That muscle hurts when I reach for something in that direction, push a vacuum, etc. I also hurst to lie on my right side. My actual port isn't sore, but that whole muscle area is. I don't have any visible bruises, and I can't remember doing anything to it, so I don't think I've pulled a muscle or bruised it. Also, I haven't lost much at all this time (five pounds in seven weeks and almost all of that the first three weeks). Do you think there is something band-related wrong or just a coincidence? I go to the doctor Monday, so I don't think I need to go to the ER or anything.

Basically, I want to know if anyone else has experienced anything similar.

Thanks in advance!

Be patient, it's the weekend and posting are slower sometimes. I still get tender around my port at times, especially after vacumning or bending too much in that direction.

Are you sure it's the 'muscle'? My port area gets sore too and I thought it was the muscle until I remember the muscle is a lot deeper than the location of this soreness.

And yes, my port area gets sore and it doesn't take much. It's just inflammation from the port moving against the surrounding tissues. Generally this happens when I've stretched/bent/lifted/reached too far. I wonder whether it has to do with the scar tissue.

You might try putting a hot compress on the area and see if this helps with the soreness, but I would bring it up to your doctor on Monday.

You should probably put in a call to your MD office tomorrow. I too had pain in the port area for a few weeks then it just disappeared. I went in for my second fill last Wednesday only to find that my port flipped. I go in for a port revision tomorrow. My doc thinks that when I was having the pain my port was angled & the pain disappeared after it flipped.

Good luck! Here's hoping it's just a pulled muscle!!

Thanks guys. I go to the doctor in a couple of hours. When I get home, I'll post what he says.

Thanks again.

Well, the verdict is scar tissue. He said he thought it could be, then when he went to put the needle in, he said I definitely have quite a bit of scar tissue. Great! My MIL is an RN and she said the pain may or may not go away. I suppose I might always have a physical reminder of the fat me even when I am slimmer.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
