Hypoglycemic?

Recommended Posts

Was anyone hypoglycemic before Lap Band? And if so, how did being banded affect it? When my blood sugar plummets I need to eat right then. And usually end up eating more than necessary. I've had success controlling it on Atkins in the past, so maybe eating the band way will be just as successful.

Thanks

I am also not banded yet. (will be after oct 28) The only time I go hypo is after I eat too many carbs or too much sugar and my blood sugar goes too HIGH. When it finally starts dropping it just goes down, down, down. It seems like if you follow bandster rules and have protien followed by veggies there would not be so many blood sugar swings. I have been curious about this also. Just a thought, have you considered getting some glucose tablets? They work much faster than food at bringing bs level back up some. I just use them because they are easy to keep on hand and prevent the overfeeding low bs, which can just cause a rebound high and low again.

I am mildly hypoglycemic. I used to sleep with a small glass of OJ next to the bed because I would wake up in the middle of the night sick because my bs had dropped!

I have not had one incident since being banded, and I am sure it is because I eat so differently now. But glucose tabs or a glass of juice will help if you have a problem.

I know one person mentioned mixing a little bit of orange juice in Water if she got the feeling of having low blood sugar. Anyone else have other tricks? I fight with low blood sugar pretty often and am wondering how it will go once I'm banded.

What Protein Snacks do you use to curb low blood sugar?

I am a type 1 diabetic and 2 months banded, so I've dealt with a number of low bloodsugars while adjusting my insulin intake to match my new eating habits. I just keep a small juicebox in my purse. It has about 17 carbs and is around 70or so calories. I buy the small juicy juice kind. I have a 4 year old so it's easy to keep stocked with juice boxes.

I was very hypoglycemic before getting my band. A real roller coaster of blood sugar which was one of the reasons why I ended up getting the band--I could see that it wasn't going to get better on it's own.

Not one hypoglycemic episode since being banded. Not one. I feel so much better--I eat better combinations of foods in small amounts. concentrating on Protein first, of course.

:D

Thanks for your replies, everyone. I know in the past when I did Atkins, my hypoglycemia went away so I'm hoping it does now as well.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
