    Slow and Steady

I also am a slower looser. I know that I am also doing what I'm supposed to be and have lost 45 lb since April 29th. I had a 5 week stall and then the scale started moving again. My Dr was also doubtful I have been following the NUT's diet, but I really had. For the first time in my life I am not crazy about food, and have great control keeping calories below 800-900 day. My guess is your body w ill catch up and youll probably loose in spurts, your body will catch up, and then loose somemore...

    What to eat?

Mcnaira44 I don't know if you use a tracking system or not but I find it very very useful. I use FatSecret.com only because it has a lot of other info, recipes etc that I like. I have a sleeve and used the tracking system to put my I days food intake in the morning. What I like is that it has almost every food, every food company and even will tally up your own recipe . I keep my carbs at 40 or under for the day, my calories at 750 or under, and my Protein at 70 or over. This way you can pretty much eat the food you want to eat but you know when you have reached your limit for the day. I often have to re-think my meal item and sometimes come up with a different plan. Today I wanted to include a desert apple into my evening snack. I had thought of apple dumplings but they have pie crust so I recalculated it and came up with a way to use diet soda boiled down to a syrup, peeled and cut up apples that I will cook in the diet soda syrup and add some pumpkin pie seasoning. I will eat a 1/2 cup full and I will still be within my limits and in fact a bit under . I couldn't have figured that out without the tracking system. I would always be over eating what I should by guessing. I also always include a muscle milk Protein shake either for breakfast or mid day. (20 g protein, 130 calories, 5 grams carbs and less than 1 gram sugar). I have gained about 20 lbs in the last couple years because I wasn't watching my intake...not tracking my food. Back at it and in just a couple days I am down 4 lbs.

    Very Frustrated...only Lost 31 Lbs

I have you tried logging your calories? Many are surprised how much (or sometimes little) they're actually eating. I would suggest keeping track of them to see exactly what you're consuming so you know if you need to decrease or increase what you're eating. I use an app called Lose It! to track mine- it's my bible. It makes it very easy.

    Very Frustrated...only Lost 31 Lbs

Just looking at what you've listed that you're eating, I would first suggest to cut out the sausage, it's very high in fat. The peanut butter "snack" alone is 285 calories, 12 g of protein and 24 grams of FAT!! Way too much! You could have had a Slimfast Low Carb shake for 180 calories, 20 g of protein and 9 grams of fat. And salads can actually be awful depending on what you put on them and how much/what kind of dressing you use. My Fitness Pal is a fabulous online source for tracking what you're consuming!!

    Difficulties through the Journey...

I think we all either have or will run into bumps in the lapband journey and we will all handle them in our own way. I was banded June 22- the first week of Dec. I hit 199- Onederland- after starting at 244. The month of Nov. I only lost 2 lbs. and I fear Dec will be the same. My doctor says that isn't really a plateau and to not stress about it, easy for his 130 lbs runners body to say. Granted, I haven't worked out must this last month. I have been busy with work (new system), getting ready for Christmas, Christmas parties and get togethers, and general household duties. I know there should be no excuses. However, when I get up at 5 am and and I don't stop going until 8:30 pm, that is all my body can give. As soon as my butt hits the chair I am asleep. Yesterday, it all caught up to me. Saturday night after our dinner party my head started hurting. I went to bed about 10 with it killing me. Woke of at midnight thinking I was going to have to go to the ER. I got some advil and took some. Woke up at 2 still killing me, but no worse. Again same thing at 5 and 6. I ended up not getting out of bed till noon. After that I felt groggy and like I'd been hit by a freight train. My hubs pointed out that maybe I needed the rest after running at such a rate for the last month and a half. Today I am better, but frustrated. My weight is stalled in the 199-200 zone. I do weight daily, which I know many say don't do, but I track my trends. Since Dec. 2 my weight has been bouncing between 199.2 and 200.8. I have started back counting calories in the last week and my calorie counts daily stay between 1150 and 1300, most days closer to the 1200 mark. My fit bit says I am buring some where around 2000 calories a day so I should be losing around 1 lb a week at the least. But, I'm not. I am staying still. I went to the doctor last week and it appears my thyroid is slightly off. I am going back this week to discuss meds. WTH- my thyroid wasn't off before surgery how the heck is it off now. No more than my thyroid is off my doctor says that shouldn't be causing a weight issue. All this has gotten me down and frustrated and made all my fears resurface. Have I lost all I will loose? Am I destined to always be the fat chick? Can I do this? Am I failing my band? What am I doing wrong? Am I going to gain all my weight back? I am freaking out right now. I want this so bad, but when I am doing what I suppose to (eating less moving more) and not losing I get so discouraged.
  7. Who would believe you can make a hearty shepherd’s pie without meat and gravy? I have made this dish a few times. I added in a meat substitute and they had no idea! They all LOVED this dish! It was delicious and easy to make! It is now a family favorite! This recipe reheats beautifully in the microwave. Try the substitution of veggie burgers and 1 cup of veggies, it "Beefs" it up. 8. Does anyone know about the squeezable water enhancers? The bottle says no calories and no sugar. I was sick of crystal light and tried these and they are good. But I don't wanna cause a stall?

Don't Know What Is Going On

You left out a lot of information? Do you exercise? How much and what kind? Do you count calories and how many a day do you consume? What is a typical day of meals for you? Are you eating slider foods? Do you feel any restriction? Do you feel any satiety after a small meal? This lapband thing is a simple math equation. Burn more calories than you consume and you should lose weight. More than 20 lbs though?

    How long?

I usually don't respond to stall questions because they annoy me. But I realize that there are times when people just don't understand the process so I'm going to respond to your seemingly sincere question. A stall is weeks, not days. You didn't get overweight overnight and you won't lose it that way either. The number of calories consumed is for your information so you know not to overeat. Your body is responding to a sudden drop of likely hundreds if not thousands of calories. That means your body might be wanting to keep the weight on in case you are starving. The body only knows you are feeding it less so it is compensating. Don't go on the scale when you are in a stall. Look for the non scale victories. You will find many of them and they will help you during this frustrating time. Just so you know, I had to lose around 50 lbs. to go down 1 size in my clothing. Then I started to drop sizes sometimes in a matter of weeks and not by losing lots of pounds. The body reshapes and gets smaller at times even when the scale doesn't move. Especially if you are exercising. Just follow the doctor's instructions, stay compliant, and you will find success.

    Good calories?

Yea 400 calories seems really low for that far out. Are u meeting your goal for Protein and fluids? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App
  12. Its very common to gain weight whilst u are going through the fills stage, until u get some level of restriction/ satiety u have to rely on willpower alone, this is the time to start learning how to eat healthy and follwoing the banded rules of chewing lots, eating protein first keeping hydrated etc. My doctor warned me that i may put on weight at this time as it is common to do so, i chose not to by following a 1000 calories a day .. and exercising like mad
  13. Fit4Me

    Discouraged but trying

I only lost 50lbs in my first year, so you are doing very good so far. Its not until I really learned what to eat and why I should eat these foods that I started to drop the weight and keep it off without feeling like I was on a diet. It took me another year to really make a life change and learn the difference between good fats and bad fats, good calories and bad calories, good carbs and bad carbs and just focus on eating more clean. Its not easy, but very rewarding once you understand the importance of eating clean. The weight will come off a little more and be able to maintain it without being on a diet. Keep up the hard work!

    Three-week bandiversary!

It's my 3-week bandiversary today. I saw my surgeon on Friday, and he said I could start on pureed foods, so I went home and scrambled a couple of eggs with low-fat American cheese. I realized that was probably too much to eat at one time, so I only ate half. It was delicious! He said to stick to things like yogurt, scrambled eggs, etc., for the first 4-6 days, then move to things like refried beans, chili, etc. In the few days since I started pureed food, I've gained 2 lb. What the heck? I'm logging my food intake on Livestrong.com (I love that Web site!) and never go over about 550 calories in a day. Yesterday was the first day I was able to get in 60 grams of protein. It's pretty hard to get all the protein in when I'm not eating much. He did say to supplement with protein shake if needed. I got rid of all the leftover Easter candy...way too tempting for me! I went back to work on Saturday and Sunday and had no problems, didn't even get tired. I just work at my computer all day anyway (I transcribe medical reports for a hospital). Going to take my dog for a couple of long walks today...time to get some real exercise in. No more dreams about food!

Need help with average weight loss per week

Talk to a nutritionist. If your only consuming 600 calories a day, and you've stopped losing, your body is in starvation mode. When our calories go too low the body responds by hoarding what it has. I've been there. Good weight loss happens when you hit about 1,200 calories a day. Less than a 1,000 routinely will slow things down. I'm not a dietician or nutrionist but have experienced this for myself. Hope this helps.

    Coke icee?

I'm of the school of thought "everything in moderation" as long as it doesn't hurt you or you are too early to try it. Others on here will slam me for that, but this works for me. Some completely give up certain foods and that is their choice. If I am unable to enjoy something in moderation, then I will avoid it. So I think after you are healed, it would be something you could try. Of course, not every day and not a ton because it is sugar and empty calories. I'm going on 3 months out and I've had some sips of Coke. One sip here and there, I'm fine. But more than that and the bubbles don't feel great. Personally, if I tell myself I'm never going to have a coke again, that is all I will obsess about until I have a coke. If I allow myself the flexibility to enjoy things in moderation, I have a much healthier mindset about it.

    Checking in

I'm going to start checking in weekly with my wring. I need some accountability. I feel like I'm struggling and hanging on for dear life. I have this great tool and I need to use it. Not forget I have it. Last few months have been awful. I will have a couple good days then a lot of bad days where I eat whatever I want. Then I tell myself there is always tomorrow. Not true. Maybe tomorrow doesn't come and I wasted the day. Who knows. I'm trying to do better, I know I can so why don't I. That brings me to accountability. I have been stalled for a year so maybe in my mind I was giving up. Well yesterday I weighed 174. Omg up from my lowest about 8 pounds. I want to be in the 150's so bad I can taste it. Well sometimes anyway. Others I'm going through the motions and other days I'm stuffing my face. One meal at a time right? So far today I'm in good shape. 155 calories and 22 protein. I will eat lunch in a few hours I better go get some wat in. Have a great day everyone.

    This is me before surgery!

Hey low BMI, I was a 31/32 when I was banded last April. I needed to lose 50 or 60 pounds. I am at my goal weight. I have had some minor problems but I would do it all over again. Keep up the good work. Don't be temted with easy calories. We did not get this way by accident and even when you don't have that much to lose you still know the HEAD problems associated with overeating.... Cynthia in Texas

    Post Op day 16

I have been doing really good. I went to the support group in Rancho Cucamonga and they really helped me. They really focused on getting enough protein and the 64 ounces of liquids. You can dehydrate and have problems. I also met a 34 year old lady who has lost 130 pounds in a little over a year. She followed a South Beach Diet type of plan. Lots of water and exercise. I want to follow in her footsteps. They also told me to make sure I am getting over 1000 calories a day or else I will go into starvation mode and you can't lose weight in starvation mode. I added pureed chili beans with cheese and that got me to 1000 yesterday. I am also focusing on my liquid intake. I am also going to start the South Beach diet on Saturday when I can have solids. I still have not weighed in,but was able to squeeze my butt into size 12 slacks!!! My 14's that were tight are not fitting me well anymore. I am looking for for non scale victorys. Today I have eaten/drank: Breakfast: 1 cup Gano Coffee (healthy coffee) with soy milk and carnation good start breakfast: 230 cal, 11 grams of protein Liquids: 20 ounces of vitamin water: 125 calories vitamins: 1 tbsp. of Glacial Milk liquid vitamins.

  25. Hey, I am about 6 1/2 months out and nearing my goal weight. I can eat just about anything, not that I do. However I am trying to figure what my "lifetime" diet is going to look like. A lot of people are doing gluten free diets on here and the Paleo diet. To be honest all this is confusing to me. My Nut here is not very much help as she keeps telling me it will very from person to person and I have to find what works best for me. I appreciate that she's all for doing what's right for my body, but I could use some basic guide lines. Like what should my life long calorie intake should be, right now I'm normally around 800. Is that where it should stay. Anyways thanks for any help
