6/16 - Gym and healthy eating.

6/17 - I had a small I mean baby spoon of Red Velvet cake for my b-day and I was out for the count. I had to use the bathroom a lot. My mom said, "uh hmmm. was it worth it?". I whispered, " Yes" lol. Just an overall bad day. I broke the diet and ate carbs and sugar. Shame Shame !!!! Lol I am only Human.

6/18 - The cake was still messing with me so I barely ate or even drank water. I was exhausted all day. Weighed in at 209.8 lbs.

1-Month Post Op Overall Loss: 14.6

2-Month Post Op Overall Loss: 8.8 lbs

3-Month Post Op overall loss: 10.8 lbs

6/19 - Barely ate or drank water again. I just slept most of the day away. Spent a lot of time in the bathroom.

6/20 - Still followed the Keto Diet.

6/21 - Still followed the Keto Diet. Still time, adding breakfast foods to the option instead of a shake or protein shot.

    Snack: 14 Olives

Lunch: 2 oz of ground chicken, mild salsa, 1 tsp of sour cream, and 1 romaine lettuce leaf.

    Snack: Sugar Free Popsicle.

    6/23 - Breakfast: 3 Egg Whites

Lunch: Homemade Chicken Salad - no dressing.

Dinner: Pickles and Sugar Free Popsicle.

6/24 - Went to a friends baby shower. They actually had healthier food options. Met a few of her extended family whom had Bariatric Surgery. One woman (weighing 392 lbs) had the bypass 17 years ago. She said back then there was not a pysch eval, waiting period or even a pre-authorization. She said she went to the doctor Monday and that Thursday she had the surgery. She showed me all the scars from access skin removal. She told me that nothing prepares you for the disappointment you will feel when you work hard and you do not look the way you thought. She had to have a full body lift and breast augmentation. It was soo enlightened to speak with someone whom was from that time and had the experience. She told me that sugar kills her but rice and bread is her fave. She stated that she got down to 125 lbs and felt soo unattractive. She stated that she gained her weight back up to 185 lbs and have maintained that weight for over 10 years.

6/25 - Had my Keto Meal.

Breakfast: Baked Turkey Bacon (3 Slices), 1 Boiled Egg white.

    Snack: 14 Olives

Lunch: 2 oz of chicken, 1 tsp of sour cream, and 2 romaine lettuce leaf.

    Snack: Sugar Free Popsicle.

Dinner: 2 oz of Chicken and Romaine Lettuce with 1/2 tomato.

    Snack: 1 pickle

My best friend is trying to get me to try Isagenix (https://www.isagenix.com/en-us/products/weight-loss). She has lost 55 lbs since February on it. It is like $378 a month. I am like the hell!! Bro whom has that money. She is really excited and she wants to me to try it so bad. I am tempted. Keto has been awesome but I am bored now and want to try something else. I think I am a Fad Diet Groupie.

Oh and the Hydrate. On the days when I focus on water. I am barely eating. I love those days. Food does not be on my mind. Below I have screen shot my progress. So yayy. Keto has really helped me get back on track.

@Newme17 Thank you!!! Yes I put ice in mines. In addition, I place it in the freezer for 5 - 10 minutes. I know it is against the rules but it makes my water colder too. I cannot help it. I ended up telling her no for now. I just like trying new things all the time. I am one of those people that tries something just for the experience.

@Mowryrocks I know that Isagenix has been around for awhile. I consider anything that I try in which someone recommended it to me a "fad". That includes clothing, cars and my job lol.

  2. 5/31 - Yeah that whole liquid diet thing is not going to work for me. The protein drinks made me sick and I just could not force myself to do it. Oh well. Back to keto is was. Instead of the gym, I ended up a BJ's with my Mom. She had me pushing around a flatbed cart with 4 waters boxes, 2 pepsi boxes, 2 coke boxes, 4 kool aid jammers, 2 Gatorades and 2 powerades. The hardest work out I ever had. I was sweating in the frozen food section lol.

6/1 - Had my off. I went to a party at one of my friends house. I put on makeup and dressed really pretty. I was feeling myself. I got hit on by 3 guys. I was just  awkward because I am not used to that much attention. It was really weird. I was like, "Thank you. Goodnight." the whole time lol.

6/2 - Continued with the keto diet. I have however made some alterations to it. I make sure to get in 50 - 70g of protein a day. I keep the carbs below 20g and the fat falls in where ever they do. It is actually a pretty easy diet to follow.

6/3 - Nothing special. Just a regular day.

6/4 - Lost 4.6 lbs this week!! I was having a minor stall and my month of May was not that great. I am just happy with the progress that I made. I am 214.2 lbs. I just never envisioned that I would be at this weight.

Yay! Sounds like a great week you had. Glad you didn't go back to the pre-op...just another diet. 😊 Find what you are going to do forever hon, that's key. That'll be a lifestyle and not a "diet".

      Apple1

I agree with Newme. Find a sustainable lifestyle that you are 100% comfortable with. I know this is sometimes easier said then done... I think you are doing great, 4.6 pounds lost is a lot!!

I really enjoy keto and meal prepping for it. I find that I do not have to think about it too much and I have so many options when it comes to the recipes. I just have the difficulty shopping and finding certain key snacks and ingredients. My whole foods and trader joes look like a Walmart Super Center.

  4. Meh, the preop diet is ok, I'm eating a lot of eggs :) I haven't felt the change or ketosis thing yet. But it has only been 2 1/2 days. I have been watching the thred where you are updating everyone on your recovery and am glad to hear that your headaches went away. So how bad are the gas pains?

    Bone Broth is Awesome

I have made my own every week for a very long time. I do Keto/Primal and love it. It made a huge difference for me in avoiding 'keto flu' when I first got started.

    Pork rhinds

Pork rinds are usually 0-carbs and 0-sugar. I've used them frequently for breading on meat and as a low-carb pizza dough crushed up with eggs in low-carb/keto diets. They are amazingly good as pizza dough. The downside is they can be high in fat and calories.

    Calories per day?

Im trying to find an a typical daily calorie limit for a Woman, 4 years out Gastric Bypass. Lost 150 lbs, maintained, then covid and gained 30lbs back. Now I need advice on how many calories I should eat to return to weightloss, and then for long term maintenance, being im so far out and was eating anything, and too much, and not having a problem till recent. Start: 276Lbs., Lowest: 117, maintained 125lbs, Currently 140 lbs. Goal back between 117-125 Lbs. Im also trying Keto, any advice for me is appreciated, Thanks!!!
  9. I know there are a bunch of posts already about Keto from last year, however they are really all over the place. Has anyone done Keto, OR a low carb diet that made them get out of a stall, and lose weight after that? I had gastric bypass in May, and only lost 40 pounds total. I am in desperate need of a jump start. I was thinking of doing the protein shake liquid diet to jump start weight loss for 3 days, and then start a low carb/keto diet. Anyone have suggestions, or any experience with this? Thanks in advance!
  10. You are right on schedule. We usually experience a very rapid loss whenever we start a major weight loss effort (surgical or otherwise,) as our bodies will first burn off our short term energy supplies of glycogen (basically stored carbs.) After that is exhausted, the body usually rests while it gets the idea that you are serious about this caloric deficit thing and gets into its longer term fat burning mode. This is what creates the typical three (or third) week stall that we hear so much about - the loss pauses as the body works to restore some of its lost glycogen reserves and moves to burning more fat. The other consequence of this shift is that fat burns a lot more slowly than glycogen (around 3500 calories pre pound lost vs. around 2000 calories per pound) so it takes more lost calories to lose a pound now than it did at first. The good part about this is that you are now doing what you really want to do - burn off that excess fat! Note that you may or may not experience an actual stall here - no weight loss for several days or weeks - though most do, but you will certainly experience a slow down in your loss rate. I never had any measurable stall here, but there was a distinct change in the loss rate chart. Also note that this shift to "fat burning" mode has nothing to do with what style of diet one may be on (some promoters of fad diets like Atkins or keto talk their diet putting one in "fat burning" mode as a means of keeping one buying their products despite some unpleasant side effects,) as it is the continued caloric deficit that keeps you burning that excess fat. The same pattern happened when people were caught up in the low fat fad. It is also good to keep in mind that long term, our loss rate will generally decline as we get lighter - it simply takes fewer calories to move ourselves around 24/7 than it did when we were heavier, so unless one seriously ramps up their exercise/activity levels, the loss rate will slowly taper off over time.

    Rash?

It is similar to a keto rash and it's caused by extremely low carb diet
  12. My names Don Moe, and I'm a recovering food addict. I've been addicted to sugar and carbs my entire life. Like most, I've dieted and exercised and had a lot of success over the years, but it never lasted and the weight always came back and then some. For me, bariatric surgery saved my life. It was have surgery or get ready to live life as a 500 lb male. It was a last ditch effort to save me. I was on a collision course with death, one bite at a time. Consuming well north of 4500 calories a day I ate whatever I wanted when I wanted. My life, like my weight, was completely out of control. My surgeon told me... "stay strict to the program and you will lose 170 lbs in the first year". At my 6 month check in I was 170 lbs down. By month 14 I was 250 lbs gone. It's been a wild roller coaster of a ride. the ups and downs have all been worth it. For me, my bariatric journey has NOT been one focused on weight loss. To me, weight loss was a by product of getting my eating disorder in check. I had the VSG in February of 2017. Since then it's been a mental journey on discovering who I was, but more importantly who I wanted to be. A lot of the old me died the day I had surgery. I don't even know who he was. A lot of him, the parts I loved, I kept, but for the most part I've completely re-invented who I wanted to be from the ground up. It caused me to make some VERY difficult decisions in my life, which included me ending an 18 year marriage, because it was what was best for me. It's not been easy. Early in my journey, I decided to be accepting of my choice to have surgery. For me, that meant being completely transparent and open and willing to discuss my journey with others. From the start it caused many people I met, to my utter shock, to tell me that I was an inspiration and huge motivator to them on their journey. This got me to thinking. If my story can motivate and inspire others, what could your story do for others on their journey? Last year I started a pod-cast called WeighInRadio. On any weight loss journey, the weigh in, is most often the most stressful part. Our guests join us on air monthly to "weigh in" on weight loss topics so you can determine what works for you. Our hope and goal is that you will take bits and pieces from each of our guests and episodes allowing you to custom tailor a weight loss plan that will work for you. The podcast supports people, not specific weight loss methods. It's not just for bariatric patients. From South beach to surgery, from Atkins to Keto to traditional diet and exercise we support and discuss anything and everything that could help you on your weight loss journey. Its a grass roots movement created by the people for the people and our growth has been amazing! If anything over my 40 years, I've learned one thing as it relates to weight loss. So here it is... There is no magic one size fits all solution to weight loss. Shocking right? You have to figure out what will work for you, and it will only work for you. Could it work for others? Sure..... but it most likely won't and that's OK! I'm a firm believer that we all contain within us the ability to impact someones life. It our choice if that impact will be a positive one or a negative one. My inbox is always open and I'm more than willing to help any of you in any way that I can. I'm couldn't happier to be joining the bariatricpal community. Message me anytime, and good luck on your own journey of discovery!

    Losing weight Post Op ........

Congratulations on your weight loss. You have done phenomenal. Is there a reason you feel you need to lose 100+ pounds? You can lose weight years out. Keep things realistic and long term sustainable. Make short term goals of five-pound increments. Give yourself a year of being consistent on your plan and make a goal of living and eating healthy. A healthy lifestyle should not be diet hell. I’m five years out. Weight loss is slow. My surgery restriction is less. I can hold more food volume (My stomach is not back to full size) I have had to find ways to fill the extra stomach space, keep hunger at a minimum and stay within my weight loss calories and macros. Sorry for the long response. Get some advice for your dietician first. I’m no expert. All I can offer is what works for me. You may have to tweak things to find your own weight loss mojo. Basics: Follow your plan, Log and weight your food, hydrate, drink 30 mins after you eat, exreccise/activity. The only reason we gain weight is eating over your weight loss/maintaining calories and macros. Ask your dietician for meal plan or research one you feel you will stick with. (Bariatric basics, keto, intermittent fasting, whole 30, paleo, low carb, vegan. The list goes on) Whatever meal plan you decide to follow log your food. (myfitnespal) or another food log app. Do you know what calories your body loses weight at? We are all different. Sometimes the numbers change years out. Using myfitnesspal app - Start with 1200 calories. You can dial your calories up or down by 100 to find the zone that works for your body. Set your protein, carbohydrates, and fats goals to fit the diet plan you choose. If you need help, ask. Real sugar, processed food and extra carbs cause craving and hunger. Detox off them. Get temptation out of the house – go shopping for things on your plan – Research some bariatric recipes to keep food flavorful. A few links Keep healthy options for sweet and salty cravings on hand. With your protein and other items allowed on your plan eat as much veggies until full to fill the extra sleeve space. The veggies will help keep your calories low. Depending on your plan use plant based or low glycemic carbs (sweet potato, brown rice, whole wheat) Stay within your carbohydrate goal. Low glycemic keeps your blood sugar from spiking. Join a weight loss challenge:
  14. Ingredients 3 sprigs Dill, fresh - finely chopped, no stems if possible 1 Onion, very small - diced or minced 6 Zucchini squash - peeled and grated 1 tbsp Flour (we have used coconut for keto and real flour prior to keto) 1 tbsp Salt (enough to cover zucchini) 1/2 cup Sour Cream (optional) Wash and peel the zucchini. Use a large holed grater to shred the zucchini Put zucchini shreds in a small bowl, add salt - let it stand about an hour in refrigerator. Before cooking zucchini, squeeze the excess water out. To cook: Using a Med / Large pot add the onion slices, cook till opaque. Add zucchini in pot, then barely cover the squash with water. Add chopped dill. When the zucchini changes to a creamier color, it is done. In a small bowl, flour with a enough water to disolve and make smooth Add the flour to zucchini while stirring to avoid clumps until smooth. If too thick, thin it out by adding 1 tbsp of sour cream, then one tbsp of the cooking liquid that you set aside. Repeat until the desired consistancy is acheived.

    Diet questions

I had the sleeve done in November. I still struggle with handling certain foods. Has anyone tried the keto diet since have bariatrics done?! I thought about trying it. Sent from my moto g(7) supra using BariatricPal mobile app

    Diet questions

Depends on what keto you do. I did a version that was low carb, high protein, moderate fat. You want your body to burn your fat stores, not the fat you are eating. Plans that advocate for eating fatbombs and pouring cream and coconut oil on everything are the ones you want to avoid. You go into ketosis due to a lack of carbs, not an excess of fat. So keto for me is a lot closer to a normal healthy diet, lots of vegetables and protein and limited processed carbs. Depends if you want to count macros as well. I never did.

Can I still eat Keto/LCHF after RNY or sleeve?

Only issue might depend on you, some can't deal with high fat foods, me, no issues at all with keto diet or high fats.
  18. I have had Type 1 since age 7. I've had a hard time with nausea and severe reflux since surgery aug. 28th. Blood sugars have been better though. As soon as you can incorporate some good carbs because keto acidosis can be a problem when your only eating protein. Good luck!

    Food subscription boxes?

Chemistry Queen on YouTube reviewed a Keto Krate but some of that stuff isn't safe for me to eat yet.

    I’m really doing this

I’m also going to Tijuana (Jerusalem Hospital) - my date is April 27! I will tell people I’m doing the Keto diet (which I honestly will do once I’m healed and can eat)... my close friends will know the 100% truth and the others will be on a need to know basis! Keto really works so I wouldn’t feel bad with my white lie!
  21. I LOVE the keto diet I'm on bc the weight is melting off the fastest it has been since surgery on 12/5. This past week I lost 12lbs! I'm at 73 1/2lbs down total and I'm never hungry. It's amazing! The only annoying thing is the constant thirst and dry mouth. Plus side is my water intake has increased from an already very high intake. Down side, dry mouth and peeing all day. Does anyone else following this way of eating experience these side effects from being in Ketosis?
  22. To those that use MyFitnessPal, and are 5 to 6 months out approx how many calories are you consuming? And what are your macros; do u count carbs, Protein, fats, sugars? My avg kcal is 1100 lately. Carbs 69-89. I would like to keep them between 40-60. Protein 48 to 90. Goal is 110. Fats avg 60. I'm going to do the 2 week Keto Jump Start in my FB Group... then go to strict paleo.
  23. OutsideMatchInside

    Do you count carbs?

Exercise is just walking. I do weights and yoga every now and then I eat keto. More fat than protein, very few carbs. Usually I just have steak or a pork chop. And I have a big salad in thevery afternoon. I keep it very simple and very clean. I also drink coffee with heavy cream or half and half most of the day.
  24. confusedgirl18

    Snacking

How do I stop snacking!!!! This is a really bad habit, I eat so many times in a day that my calories add up like a person w/o surgery!! I've been stalled at 74.5 kgs for about 2 months now and I really want to get to my 70-65 goal weight. P.S I'm on a low carb diet, ( keto) and I still snack a lot on nuts, turkey wraps, cheese slices, atkin bars. Although it's low carb it adds up calorie wise.

    Intermittent Fasting

Ahhh ok I'm doing 16:8. 7pm to 1pm the next day ... So my first "meal" or calories which is always a keto style or hflc isn't until 1pm. I do have a cuppa tea in the morning but no milk as it would break the fast.. all good sounds interesting though.. I'll have to look it up
