    Greek yogurt equals yum!

How did you go in for Fage and end up with yoplait?? I've been looking at the Fage website tonight and they have a couple of doable recipes.. This one for hummus looks good. I've been going and buying pre made Greek yogurt hummus but I might give this a try.. http://www.fageusa.com/plainkitchen/recipes/crushed-spicy-hummus-with-yogurt-spiced-baked-pita-chips/

    Is it normal?

I was very restricted and literally a couple of bites would fill me. With dense Protein like chicken I still can only eat a few bites and I am full. If it is something really soft like yogurt I could maybe eat 1/4 cup and further down the road I was able to eat 1/2 cup. Even now 16 months later 1/2 cup cottage cheese will fill me or 2 to 3 oz. of meat. What you are experiencing is normal.

Are you able to keep fluids down? My stomach is very picky I eat Greek yogurt usually plain with some like cookies & cream protein mixed in it and string cheese sometimes an egg it's weird though only fried cooked very soft with cheese melted on top can only eat about half. Have you talked to you dr you could have developed an ulcer
  6. I need help and ideas on what to eat?? Tomorrow will be my second out six nutrition class and I am already going crazy on what to eat.. I received paperwork listed with things I can have , but I can't buy them right now. For the past month I have been eating nothing but chicken, fish, oatmeal, boiled eggs, and light ant fit Greek yogurt. I find myself getting bored eating the same things over and over again. Oh I have had salad and salmon too! I lost 6lbs doing what I am doing and happy with the results, just that if I eat chicken for lunch I don't want it for dinner! My plan allows me to eat 3 out 5 food categories, with no fruit it carbs after lunch or dinner. I just have to make sure I am eating my Protein. I need some food ideas so can you please post me some good things to try other than the usual or a way I can be creative with what I eat. I really really want this to work . Thanks to everyone in advance ! I feel like a lost puppy.

    Pouch

I am on solids.. Have been for about 6 weeks..I only take in about 700 calories give of take. My meals daily are: 5 oz of Greek yogurt for breakfast, 4 oz of cottage cheese for lunch and for dinner a protein shake or 4 oz of chicken... I do have a few cheese sticks during the day (60 calories).. Lately, I've been eating more cheese sticks and even had a fried chicken wing ( which made me so sick).. I even went as far as having a few chips yesterday. I don't know what my cravings are lately.. I haven't been waiting 30 min to drink.. How long will I have to do that? I thought that was just when I was on a soft diet. Maybe I will start doing that... Does it really work? But I still feel so hungry and I'm tempted to eat the "bad" things again! I don't want to go back to that way????.
  8. My pcp suggested that I have the gastric sleeve and directed me to Dr. Stephen Malley in Kansas City. I watched his seminar online and then made my appointment and met with him on October 23rd. Time has been speeding by at a very fast pace since then. My surgery is scheduled for November 11th which is 8 days away. I had a heart attack (1 stent) in 2011 so Dr. Malley requires that I get a clearance from my cardiologist. I met with him on Friday and it did not go well. He wants me to take a stress test before surgery. I don't think it's covered by my insurance so that is why I am dragging my feet. I also feel "what will be, will be". I am a cash patient and all the prelim stuff I have had to do to get qualified is not included in the fee. I am less scared than I was yesterday, thanks to a late night chat on this site. My first question is about the chat rooms. Why are there 9 showing up in the chat rooms but nobody is available to chat? Next, is there a lot of pain associated with this? I do not like to take pain medication and if the pain isn't higher than a 7 (from 1-10) then I think I can deal with it. Then, I am extra emotional right now. I thought I read that that happened AFTER the surgery. I stop myself when I realize I'm feeling sorry for myself but feel weepy (sp?) and sometimes very much overwhelmed. I do not cook. I can cook but don't enjoy it. Just reading over the information, there doesn't seem like there is going to be anything that I can eat, once I get to that post surgery stage. I see that I can have yogurt and cottage cheese and I HATE both of those. Okay, I'm taking some deep breaths & changing the subject before I get myself worked up again. I DO plan to join a support group so I know that will be the extra help that I need to see me through. I am so appreciative of this group as well!!! Two of my sisters are not supportive and I don't know how the other 2 sisters feel. My DH is supportive and is paying for the sleeve but continues to eat in front of me. So hard. At the end, I am excited, I am happy to be this close to surgery and looking forward to getting healthier. I have also scheduled a date with my treadmill for today! (We're virtual strangers - lol). I hope I haven't written too much but my brain is overflowing. Thanks in advance for all your help!!!

    gastric sleeve

Welcome! Focus on trying to stay hydrated and follow the program your doctor gave you and you will be fine. Miy program was 2 weeks of full liquids after surgery. It was easy most days. The hardest thing for me was that it was cold outside so I got tired of all the cold drinks and yogurt. Soup was my best friend!

    Best Post-Surgery Habit

Yeah, really, it took some doing. I never really even liked regular yogurt until after my sleeve. But, oddly my tastes have changed. I don't eat sugar, so I buy the 0% Plain and start doctoring. Try making cheesecake yogurt: one 4 or 5 oz container of plain Greek yogurt, Splenda to taste, tsp of Cinnamon, and a tsp or so of good vanilla (the real stuff, not the fake). Or, get some sugar- free fruit preserves. Whole Foods makes a delicious Wild Blueberry. A tsp of that in 4 oz of plain yogurt, then Splenda to taste. It's my late night snack (beats the huge bowl of ice cream I used to have every night). I don't have any smoothie recipes, but a friend makes her smoothies with Greek yogurt for the added Protein. She is using the Davinci syrups and agave, I think.

    Best Post-Surgery Habit

Tracking my food and exercise using MyFitnessPro. Not drinking while I eat and waiting 30 minutes after eating to drink. I actually eat less! Finding excuses to exercise, i.e. parking farther away than I would have in the past and walking instead of driving. Helps that I'm not dragging around the extra weight. Learning to LOVE Greek Yogurt!!

    Protein Tips and Tricks

@@Micky71 I was making my own protein shakes at full liquids, which was one day after surgery for me. But if by smoothie you mean something with blended up fruits or veggies, for that I had to wait until soft foods, 2 months out. My progression was: 1 day clears 4 weeks full liquids (real liquids, not yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. -- so I could have milk-based protein shakes but not put anything like yogurt or fruit in them) 4 weeks purees 4 months soft foods. I had to wait until soft foods for anything like a "smoothie" because I wasn't allowed fruit or veg of any kind until soft foods. Only liquids and protein-based foods like meat, dairy, eggs, and beans.

    Seriously?!

Yes, that is not uncommon and it gets better. However, you shouldn't be eating a potato, that is a waste of your precious little appetite. Replace that potato with cottage cheese or hummus or greek yogurt or some other protein. You need to focus on protein, not carbs. You will feel much better and it will get you in a habit that is going to last the rest of your life...protein first, then vegs, then carbs last.

    Protein Only

During my major weight loss phase I ate predominantly high protein foods: fish, turkey, chicken, cottage cheese, yogurt and cheeses. I did start to eat small quantities of non-starchy vegetables. I also have started to eat beans now but did not during weight loss, as you said chili is very high in carbs. Be careful eating pasta, rice and bread. I have found that carbs do create cravings and if I indulge in say too much potato; well I just want more! I don't eat bread pasta or rice and don't plan on it.
  16. Hello, everyone! I was sleeved on 4/15 and have had much success. As of today, I am down approximately 70 lbs. It was the best thing I have done for myself in a long time. My energy level bounced back, my back pain is subsiding. I am going back to the person I once was. However, it seems we've hit a bump in the road. My kids have had a nasty virus/cold turned into upper respiratory track infection. I got the same thing. It appears mine settled into a bronchitis. My asthma acted up and I was given Augmentin for the infection. My surgeon encouraged me to ask my PCP for Levaquin as the augmentin would be too much for my stomach to handle.. So, I've been taking the Levaquin. However, for the pest few days it seems as if I have extreme difficulty in swallowing. It is almost like the feeling you have immediately after your operation. I have to take small bites and chew them super finely. I also have to take small sips as liquid is even bothering me. I called my surgeon who said that I probably have an irritated and inflamed esophageal tract from the post nasal drop and the antibiotics…and not to mention, I started eating salads this week. So, the sickness, the antibiotic, salad, etc….could be causing my system some grief. My surgeon recommended I take a few days and just have soft Proteins (yogurts, cottage cheese, Protein shakes, etc). My question is has anyone experienced this before? I was worried I had a leak, but there's no fever and no constant abdominal pain. I was also wondering if anyone has heard of esophageal stricture and what the symptoms were? It's hard to swallow and when I do it feels as if what I am eating gets stuck and has a very hard time going down> Anyone who has had this or something like it please respond and put my mind to eat. I see my surgeon on Thursday fora routine check up anyway and will bring this yo to her as well but wanted to see what you guys thought. Thank you so much!!!!!!

    Surgery

I am sorry you're having a hard time. The first week was hard. Nothing appealed. I just started losing my tastes for things last week. If you have a whole foods near you they sell different sample sizes you could try to see which you like. Vitamin shoppe also has a couple but not many near me. Take it slow. Stay with jellos, yogurts, Soups and next week should be better Good luck.
  18. Ola Menina! I had my surgery (7/24) in Mexico too, and for me it was a pretty good experience as well. However, being home, 6 days post op, I feel the same way as you. I am hungry allllll the time, and I am getting my Water down, but nothing seems to makes me feel comfortable. I know I am only supposed to have Clear Liquids at this stage, but I did have a small amount of cottage cheese and a little yogurt today, and not even that made me "feel" full. I also lost 5 pounds since the surgery. (21 pre op) I hope this thing is working...but I can't test it with real food for another two weeks. I do hope things change for the better for the both of us. Because other than that issue, I am doing pretty good. Hugs, Karina

    Im sleeved!

I don't want to sugarcoat anything for you so I'm gonna tell you just how it is when you got out of anesthesia you're like oh my God it was awful it was awful pain the first night was awful and if it was because of the gas that you fill up your belly with I bought Gas-X strips and brought them with me but they they didn't really help I need to give you a lot of pain medicine but it still doesn't help at all and then the second day I was better today is the third day and I'm doing like 100% stomach still hurting! I can't even think about drinking any protein shakes right now I'm just trying to stay hydrated sugarfree Popsicles ,sugar-free Jell-O just sipping water that I can't even think about anything else I had a little bite of yogurt and is just too much, but I'm very mobile, up walking around! First nite was rough , just prepare yourself as much as podsible
  20. Coming out of recovery was awful but the second night was awful as well after the second day I was a little better today is the third day I'm doing much better I'm able to drink liquid having a little bit of yogurt a little bit of Jell-O so I'm tolerating stage III which is good but now I got the pain in my stomach and the gas is still there. So I'm just taking it easy and relaxing make sure I got my liquid then just sip sip sip
  21. Hello, I'm Ldyshecat. I just had my surgery on Oct 10th. Thankfully my body has been with me 100% throughout this journey. In order to have my insurance cover the surgery I needed a pysch eval, 3 mo doctor monitored diet and a cert from my regular physician saying I was OK for surgery. When I started my diet I weighed in at 295lbs...after the three months were up I weighed 254lbs. I still chose to do the surgery though, even though I'd proven to myself that I could lose the weight on my own, because I wanted to make sure it stayed off and I think the surgery will help me take my weight to my goal (125) as well as maintain it. So...for my facility (Rocky Mountain Assoc. physicians) they required about three classes prior to surgery and a 1k diet started 10days out from the date of surgery. That was difficult...but I had a few Snacks and things set aside I already knew were low cal as well as that I liked them. The day of surgery was scary as hell since I had never had a surgery before in my adult life, but my husband stayed with me as much as he was allowed. When I woke up the first thing I did, when I was allowed, was to get up and walk...and I normally did this once every few hours...when I was awake. I also tried really hard to drink the 1oz of Water given to me every hour. As a tip for anyone that hasn't done it yet... If you feel a lot of pressure anywhere after surgery (from the air they pump into your abdomen) holding a cold pack of ice against it works great to break it up...same with walking. I had little to know pain during my recovery at the hospital...but I also used the pain pump as often as I remembered and was awake. I didn't want the pain to get a foothold. I was released the day after my surgery and told I had been a star patient and done everything I was supposed (the others that had the surgery the same day had to wait at least another day and were told they would probably go home on oxygen). The liquid diet...was agonizing. My stomach tolerated it fine, but I got bored and didn't have an appetite for the broth or the Jello...it also made me very jealous of everyone else getting to eat normal food. I'm now on the semi-liquid diet (cottage cheese, yogurt, strained soups) and again my stomach has been fantastic in working with me and accepting new foods. I have found that the more gourmet type foods I get the less likely I am to feel deprived. So I got some yummy butternut squash bisque, Progressive Tomato Basil Soup and some Protein rich Greek yogurt that I love (Dannon, if anyone's interested). At this point the hardest thing I'm finding is that my stomach is not very happy with water...I get bloated and gassy feeling after only a few sips no matter the temperature. In the program I'm with they allow herbal tea as a water substitute and I'm getting by on some yummy Blackberry vanilla tea until I can figure out water that works for me. Well, that is where I'm at right now....if anyone having surgery soon has questions about anything I did or didn't do, please ask....and the same goes for anyone else....this is all very fresh in my mind right now for this stage of recovery. ☺ I was released the day after my surgery

    Surgery tomorrow

Remember to walk, walk, walk and walk. Gas X and therma care heating pads for the shoulder help me. Also I brought plain greek yogurt to add to my soups. As a matter of fact I use greek yogurt in everything! Remember Protein Protein and Protein. You will do just fine. Good luck to you and welcome to the otherside!
  23. Hi everyone. My name is Margaret. I am a mother, wife, friend, employee advocate, and a lover of dogs. I live with my husband and Chug (Chihuahua/pug) in Colorado. I just had my revision surgery on June 30th from lap band to sleeve. I am at Bariatric Stage IV - eating pureed foods and drinking Protein drinks. I am limited to five foods: egg whites, plain yogurt, refried Beans, cottage cheese and pudding. I am also taking liquid Vitamins and getting B-12 monthly injections. My daily goals are to continue to drink 64 oz of Fluid each day; eat/drink 65 grams of protein, walk 30 minutes (if not more), and continue to protect my surgery incisions and stomach by not lifting, pulling, pushing anything over 15 lbs.I am glad that the doctor limits his patients to five foods because I think it's really easy at this point to overdue it on other soft foods that may not be so healthy for you. The weight is coming off slowly which I think is good. I feel pretty good except last night, I had a side ache next to the incision where my port use to be. Other than that, I feel really good. I think this surgery was much easier than the lap band. I still get hungry and the food that my husband is eating looks tempting. However, I try to remind myself that this is just head hunger. I don't think I am really hungry. I am no longer a coffee drinker since we were told to stop drinking it. I was totally addicted to coffee mostly because of the liquid creamers. I feel so much better and I no longer have to have coffee first thing in the morning I am just beginning this journey and I am still learning to listen to my body. I am not in a support group at this time but I would love to connect with others who are on a similar journey.

    Food feeling stuck

I tried eating plain greek yogurt first and it seemed to work Sent from my SM-G920T using BariatricPal
  25. As it turns out, I have a pretty bad case of dumping syndrome. And I'm not entirely sure what causes it and how to manage it as it had started up rather suddenly. I wasn't sure it was dumping syndrome but I have confirmed it with my surgeon that it is. After I eat I become severely nauseated for about an hour, 30 minutes if I take zofran. It's so bad all I can do is lay there and groan. I can't talk or walk. It seems to be set off by anything sweet- ice cream, evens glass of milk, yogurt, etc. It also seems to happen at other times- just after any meal. I'm not sure what's triggering it. Can dumping be triggered by portion size alone? What foods trigger your dumping if you have it? What can be done to help with the symptoms? How do I avoid this from happening? Any advice appreciated. It's pretty awful.
