Band With Plication, Garlic Bread Made Me Sick!
maegan replied to Courtney Danielle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told not to eat any white bread even before fill. I had surgery 6/14 and get my first fill next week. I have been stuck and had food come up too. I have to remember to take small bites and chew a lot! -
Unrealistic Fear - Slightly Paranoid
AliveAgain replied to june13sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 25 days out from surgery, but I'm anticipating to get the same feelings with food in the future. At home, being able to measure everything really helps. But going out is another story. That's why we did this, we added this tool for a reason. It's a way of policing ourselves in a world that has gone wild with portion control and too many messages to EAT, EAT, EAT! When I watch TV now, it is jaw dropping how much CRAP is advertised. Junk food, fast food, pizza, after school Snacks for kids that are NOT healthy. Not to mention noticing the shear number of restaurants on every corner. Just shameful. My weakness is that I love flavors and textures. I love well made organic foods with exotic ingredients. I love when summer veggies are in season and berries abound! But I just hope I'll appreciate smaller amounts of those flavors in the future. In 2003, I was like you. I was competing in relay triathlons and going out dancing every weekend. My life revolved around getting on the bike, running, hiking, kayaking, going to the gym. It feels like a dream sometimes that I was ever that way. But you can get it back! Just in the past three weeks I've become addicted to walking. I'm increasing my time every week and feeling so good all over. I'm sleeping better than before, and it feeds my brain to make smart choices all day. Pretty soon I'm breaking out the bike again, and planning a hiking/camping trip to Yosemite this June. My husband and I LOVE motorcycle racing and we plan to ride his bike there! I haven't been able to comfortably fit on the back in YEARS. I highly recommend you find a way to get exercise back into your life. It is so addictive! And it does make you happy, gives you time to focus on yourself and remember why you started this journey last summer. Celebrate your new found body and take it out of a spin! -
Hello everyone, today is my 4 week sleeve anniversary and I weighed in at 235.7, dropped 35lbs. I am so very happy that I made this decision. It's days like this that out weighs that little voice I hear sometimes telling me that I would never be able to eat like others, but that's fine because I'm not like others, but soon I will be looking like others! April sleevers rock!!!!

4 Days After Surgery And Worried
msvickee replied to girlnamedNikki's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although every surgeon's post op is different one thing I think is consistent is being on those liquids the first 2 weeks. You've eaten part of a sandwich, oatmeal, etc really too much for your new stomach. As I've stated in a previous thread, compare your new stomach to a baby's stomach. At one week old you wouldn't give a baby a piece of sandwich or Cereal...you give him liquids. Your surgery will help you loose the weight but it's a tool you will have to do your part. Get your Protein shakes in and sip your Water throughout the day. You can do this! You just need to get a regime going -
I am only 5 weeks out tomorrow. This will certainly be down the road, but I know it will happen. Down 25 pounds!! So I am pleased so far. Still getting used to things, but overall happy I did it. Take care and Happy Thanksgiving.

I wasn't aware about the fat around the liver until I started reading at this site. I have my initial meeting with my doctor in a couple weeks. I currently weigh 270 so I'm interested to see what he will say about a pre-op diet. I'm glad that it worked out for you! Good luck!!

I'm having trouble posting my topic so if it's entered twice you'll know why! I'm 6 weeks post op and was able to eat a whole taco including the shell. No upsets. I would think that would be too much food. Comments?

Obsessing about weight loss/ or lack thereof and adjusting after surgery
lyladyp replied to Tiffany L.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Tiffany, I can understand your feelings. My surgery was on the the 14th and I have gone through feeling as if I made a huge mistake to wondering if I am going to be successful to wondering why I am still feeling hungry when following my plan. During my first appointment, I mentioned these feelings to the nurse practitioner and she stated those feelings are perfectly normal. As far as food and feeling hungry, I was advised that once I start on soft foods (this week), I will notice a vast difference between the liquid and puréed periods. This is is where the will work and willpower begins. I am still feeling apprehensive but let’s just take each day and process one step at a time. And if it makes sense, maybe step away from the scale for a couple of weeks until the liquid-soft food phase has passed. -
Congrats!! That is amazing. I am so psyched to get it done! I just need to get the $$ part figured out so I can get a date! Fingers crossed that this week ill find out something..waiting is the worst! Keep up the good work

To those of you who have had the band removed: If I have my band removed, will I be back to normal or will there be always lingering effects of being banded? I've had my band for 8 weeks now and have called or seen the doctor and other doctors too many times to count. I've had many of the usual tests, five different drugs (with horrible side effects), and so many complications. I want to have the band removed so that I will feel like I did before. I have no fill now, but am scared of food and disappointed in the way of life for a bandster. I know we are all different, but I will just say that for me, life is not good. I am so thirstyl I want to take a nice long drink of cold water so badly. If I am going to diet, I want to eat fruit and vegetables- not mashed potatoes and gravy. I have to put sauces, creams, and gravies on just about everything I eat to get it to go down without so much discomfort. I want to eat like a normal person. I vastly misunderstood the band. I thought that I would be eating smaller meals and feel satisfied. I did not know that I would have to chew food to the consistency of vomit before I swallowed. I knew I would eat slowly and said that was fine with me because I am the slowest eater -ever. I didn't understand that slowly meant newborn baby bites and eventually eating cold food everytime I ate. I'm not really losing -I guess because I am not hydrated and not eating enough protein. can't help that, I am doing all that I can tolerate. I've decided that I will give the band 6 months and then make my final decision. The problem for me is that I will be letting my family down. I know that I will probably not ever be able to lose weight in my lifetime now. I had such high hopes, but now am depressed all the time. I am not myself, not happy -ever. I hate this thing inside me. I hate that I'm in a situation that I can't control. I hate life. So, I hope that those who are mean-spirited will not answer my post -I am looking for those who have taken the band out -not those who have pent up anger and hostility and use message boards' anonymity to purge their demons:) Thanks in advance.

70 Lbs In 51 Days. Still Going!
Fiddleman replied to ForMyfamily's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1.5 a day is awesome! Do share your secrets if you can sustain this loss rate after 2 months. I starting hitting quite a few stalls in the last month. I am not certain, but I think it is because I hit my BMR boundary and need to push through it with some new exercise. I already eat low calories (between 700-900) and don't cheat, ever. Cheat may be too strong of a word, but I am trying to follow my NUT plan as much as possible. -
Dreaded 3-week Stall - Info?
Kristin replied to thebionicbroad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had a 3 week stall. I will admit, I was frustrated. It lasted a week, during that time, I just continued doing what I had been, I went to the gym and after a week, it broke. I hear some last longer than others. If it happens, it is nothing you are doing wrong, just your body sorting out all the changes going on. I am officially 5 weeks out now and down another 9lbs since my stall! Yay! It is good to hear that you are recovering well. And you are down 25lbs?? How sweet is that!!? Good Luck! -
Dreaded 3-week Stall - Info?
thebionicbroad posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, everyone. I'm two weeks post-op as of today, down 25 pounds since December 1st, and recovering nicely. I keep reading occasional comments about the 3-week stall. Am I about to hit a weight-loss wall? What happened to you, and what did you do about it? Thanks. -
OK so I was rubbing on one of my incisions and it popped! Is this normal? According to research it is. But I want to make sure I didn't pop a stitch. I am almost 4 weeks out. It didn't hurt when it popped but it is very tender to the touch now. Any input or thoughts of what this could be would be greatly appreciated!

Meals-to-go ideas 12 days after surgery
lsuchick4 replied to Bluesea71's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was on a Friday and I was at work (from home) on Monday, I returned to the office the following Monday. You can do it! As for food, I pack a little lunch box with me everywhere I go. I keep an assortment of things like: yogurt, laughing cow cheese wedges, hummus, deli ham, cheese sticks, guacamole. At 2 weeks, I packed refried Beans with cheese, scrambled egg, -

This is my first blog but I feel like I really need to do something to change my attitude. I have been on a roller coaster with my weightloss since January. This happens to me everytime I lose weight. I do extremely well for about 3 months and then it all goes to pot. I go for another fill next week as I have not really had any restriction feeling as of yet. I hope the MD will fill me a bit more than he has in the past.

Ok, so I hope that I don't babble on here and make no sense but oh well here is a little update! So a couple of weeks ago I started having problems again with not being able to keep much down without it coming back up!!! It started to get pretty miserable!!! and I mean Miserable!! I was like, why in the world would anyone want to do this to them self's, this is so stupid!! I was reading a lot on lap-band talk and looking at what most people eat.. well I would eat a few bits, and I mean a FEW bits of something and be totally satisfied!! I had come to find out that most people were able to eat a lot more than I could... but I though oh well, Im loosing weight!!! but loosing weight by being bulimic is not the way to go!... Then on Thursday I started to have pain in the kidneys.. So I thought I had a kidney infection... Friday I went to the hospital and after a 3 hour wait in the waiting room, I find out that I am dehydrated, and have a kidney infection as well as a possible hernia.. the doctor did a CT scan and said that It looks like I had a hernia.. (Dr. Malley said that if they don't know what they are looking at then the pouch from my lap band looks like a hernia) but I won't believe the hernia part.... Anywho.. I went and saw Dr. Malley today for my scheduled visit and I said "take it out" meaning all the fluid!! I want to eat!!! I have lost 67lbs and think that I am doing pretty good!!! But I still want to eat!! so I need to weigh the options!! I went into the office thinking I had 0.75cc in my band because I thought I had been keeping track... well I was not aware that Dr. malley put 5cc in my band during surgery (he normally does not do that) he said that my band was loose enough in surgery that he could fill it up then to keep it restricted.. hmmmmm no wonder I have been sick!!!! So we talked about it and he took 1/2 of what I had in, out.. so that should leave me with 3cc... It was funny because he chuckled when he said well you have almost 6cc in your band.. I screamed, "take some out"!!!!! well I feel much better to know that i had a lot in there and that I did not have just 0.75cc.. because I was thinking how am I this restricted with just 0.75cc this is horrible!! will I ever be able to eat? SO GUESS WHAT???? my stomach growled for the first time a few minutes ago... it scared me!!! I was like, what in the world? I am not sure if I like that or not.... I am getting ready to eat lunch so we will see how that goes!!!

I started back to work today...administrative in an adult day care. Loved getting back to what i love but tired a little easily. Am two weeks post op tommorrow. drinking and eating pudding and potatoes is too easy for me....i can't help being scared that i could just keep on eating, even though I am following instructions and taking 30 minutes or more to finish 2 oz. of creamed food or 1 cup of liquid. My doctor assures me that if I ate fast or more i would know i couldn't. Maybe i should just try to stop this crazy worry. years and years of having success and gaining back has made me worry that this isn't going to work either. Is that crazy? any councel out there? another thing- when did you start soft protein like tuna or salmon? I started my journey at 300 pounds and now I am at 276 so I am happy with that, but just afraid I will just stop losing. I probably needed to get back to work:001_smile:

I'm also one week out. I want some food other than broth and shakes too. Do you know when you get to move on to the next food stage? Planning my grocery shopping for that has been keeping my mind busy.

So Excited....sept 7th I Will Be Banded!
*susan* replied to MICHELLE43's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Michelle and congratulations on getting your date. It must be exciting after waiting three years. What are you reading about that you find scary? Please don't be afraid to ask us questions. We are all here to support one another and help alleviate any fears you may have. Remember, when people are doing really well with their bands (which is the majority) and having no problems, they tend to not be on the board posting as much. But the band is really wonderful and most do not experience very many complications, especially if you remember to eat slow, chew well and be careful about your food choices. -
Who are you and what have you done with my wife?
Alexandra replied to Alexandra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The words "Alex" and "sexy" sound very jarring to my ears when used in the same sentence. Really. Give me another three or four years getting used to being a size 16 and ask me again then. -
What size are you currently? When I lost my first bit of weight and needed new bras I found the Soma line at Chico's and LOVED what these bras did for me. I got them from the outlet and they were on sale for $10 each. They are now too big and I really wanted to order more, but refuse to pay the full price...might have to mosey over to the outlets again. Two weeks ago I went to Khols and found a Maidenform bra that gives a little push-up and it's okay. My ladies look good and lifted, it's pretty comfortable, but the straps don't always stay up (and they are on the furthest setting). I tried on so many types and sizes and this was the best I could find there. I also tried Macys and had a lady fit me and recommend a good bra, but it was nothing like the great experiences I've had at Nordstroms (with knowledgeable sales people)...I didn't feel like walking down to that end though. Good luck and if you find one you like please share!

One month out & I've gained?
laylasmojo replied to disappearingme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would not worry about it to much your body is in a state of shok and yes your weight will fluctuate up and day every day all day long so maybe you should be one of the people who only weigh once a week. as for the three week stall that is perfectally normal and I promise you as long as you are following your dr's guidelines you will begin to loose again.
