I am also 5 days post op and am experiencing the same thing. I had band and plication and wasnt sure if my stomach was cramping/ digesting/ or I was hungry but I think I have figured out that I am getting pretty hungry and it hurts when my stomach rumbles/growls. I am trying to "eat" every 3-4 hours to help this by trying to get 4 shakes and then soup in the middle of afternoon/night if needed. I think it is odd bc I feel like i was less hungry on the 2 week pre op diet when I was on shakes only for 7 days and the pain of hunger feels worse now. I hope this gets better!

Girdle after surgery?
sstark1285 replied to buffythefatslayer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes pressure on the stomach helps. I don't use my spanx bc they are a little too tight but I hold a pillow on my tummy when I get up or have to cough. -

Pre op due to be sleeved next month. My dad and aunt said they just do not understand the surgery if I am losing weight on pre op diet. Like have I ever kept it off?? It is my job to take care of myself hopefully they can figure it out. It is not a diet but a complete lifestyle change. Good luck!!! Sent from my LGLS990 using the BariatricPal App My husband didn't either until I fed him a pre-op diet meal for a day... now he does... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G530AZ using the BariatricPal App -

Hi my name is Pamela and I had been very unhappy as an overweight person. I was always an obese person even as a child. In high school I was popular but I knew deep down inside I was just the "fat friend with the cute face". I graduated from high school weighing 190 pounds. I then went off to college and the freshman 15 (that is how much you typically gain during your first year of college) turned into the freshman 30. Even by the time I left college I was much heavier than I was in high school. With this being said I still was not to the point were I was fed up with my weight. I felt I could live with it and if no one else could, well that was their problem. I had gotten married in 2004 and became really comfortable with my life. I had a husband who loved me for me so I subconciously figured I could eat whatever and whenever I wanted. Well I kept this up for the next 2 1/2 years and ended up ballooning to the weight of 292 pounds :omg: . I thought to myself what the hell happened. Well the fried chicken, ribs, mac and cheese day in and day out happened. Not to mention the Reeses easter eggs (both in white and milk chocolate) and the Pillsbury deserts, you know the ones you drizzle caramel and fudge on top when you take it out of the . Well I had got to my "Ah ha" moment. I knew I was slowly but surely killing myself. I knew I had diabetes and hypertension that ran on both sides of the family. So I had to do something. I had heard about the Lap-Band procedure but knew nothing about it. So I did my research and found a surgeon by the name of Dr. Robert Quinlan :clap2: who is my godsend. I had a seminar in October of 2006 and was officially notified that I a candidate for surgery. Well this was the best news for me but I still had to go through the pre-testing such as the ultrasound, pschy, and various other testing to see if I could physically stand to have the surgery done. I wasn't concerned about the test results being that I was 27 years old and had no current health problems besides being morbidly obese (oh and the 3 three protruding "love" handles that were on both sides of me in addition to my "thunder thighs"). Well it took me six months to go through the mandatory testing to be approved for surgery. When the surgeons office finally called me to let me know that my insurance was approving it I thought I was going to faint. Six anxious months had finally paid off. And not to mention I had lost 12 pounds before surgery to decrease the size of my liver. I had my surgery March 29, 2007. The day I went home from surgery I weighed 280 pounds and to date (Sept 3, 2007) have lost 60 pounds (yay! :bounce:). I eat ABSOLUTELY nothing fried and no sweets. I figured that between unhealty food and my obsessive eating its what got me to this point in the first place SO NO MORE!! I exercise at least three times per week whether it be going downstairs to the gym, power walking outside (which isn't very fun in 90 degree weather) or turning on exercise tv and working out. I hate to exercise :whoo: but I know it's half (if not 60 percent) of the battle of weight loss so I force myself to do it. I love the band and have no problem tolerating any healthy foods even fibrous ones like broccoli. I want to at least get down to 150 pounds and plan on having a abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) done at that time. I would encourage anyone who has had repeated failures at weight loss whether it be Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, or Slim Fast (oh and can't forget about the Richard Simmons way of weight loss too been there done that), go to a lap band seminar and get the skinny on the way to a better life. Now I understand it's not for everyone but it really saved me from continuing to lead myself to an early grave.

Speaking as someone with a ph.d., you know what the difference was between those of us who graduated, and those who quit? Those of us who graduated didn't quit. Really. That was it. Persistence. We put up with whatever BS, jumped through whatever hoops, dealt with inevitable delays and were like stubborn MULES that were NOT going to quit until we had it. The ones that quit lost patience. I don't think I was always intelligence, ability, or anything intellectual. Persistence. Same thing that made you keep at it until you hit weight/fitness goals. How many guys like you quit on the weight a long time ago? But not you, right? My first 3 years were no problem. Due to health, pregnancy, unsupportive spouse issues my last year took me four years. Persistence. Good luck. You will do great.

I believe on the Fed Register site they have a contact person. You might call her. I'm afraid I will be in the same boat as you. Stay with it. Are they aware of the change and that it was to go in affect on 3/16 not in the next couple of months? Good luck!

Calling all AETNA *** Bandsters I hv an approval ????
girly831 replied to rn2012's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have Aetna also and was approved. My BMI was hovering around 35 for over 2+ years. As long as you can prove your BMI was 40 without comorbities or 35 with comorbities for at least 2 years. You should not have a problem. Good Luck! . I have Aetna Health Maintenance Organization..Im currently 270 with a BMI of 41....I know i qualify with a BMI >40..I'm hearing that Aetna requires a 2 year weight history. Will they deny bc I havent been 270 for the last 2 years. My weight fluctated from 225 to 270. -
I just had 2cc removed this morning bc of reflux . I had a stomach virus 2 weeks ago and it my stomach was never right. Dr said my stomach was swollen around the band and it made the band to tight. Hoping this works!

I still have it unfortunately it no longer works properly. I also want one I can delay cook times that would be awesome bc I work till 7 sometimes 8 at night. It would be super when I came home wouldn't have to cook.

6 months out and I need help!!!
tntransplant06 replied to decamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can only say, I hear you. I'm at 9 mos out and am stuck at 72lbs. I haven't lost for 8 weeks. Mind you, I still have 100 to go minimum. I don't know the answer bc I eat between 1200-1500 calories a day and the scale goes up 1, goes down 1. Playing that forever it seems. -
Activity Resrtictions??
jillagin2000 replied to CHACHA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well, fwiw, even the skinniest dressage queen should use a mounting block to mount because it's better for the horse's back and the saddle. I started my late BS Paint myself when I weighed 290lbs and I weigh 250 now (having band complications that will require band removal and hopefully a revision to RNY). I ride 3-4 days a week on my 7yr old Thoroughbred and am learning Dressage now. I asked my dressage trainer whether my weight was hurting my mare and he said no basically because I know how to ride. I'm not a sack of potatoes that can't balance in the saddle. So, don't let your current weight stop you. It took me a while to get my surgery but my initial weight loss was significant (40lbs in 3 months). You'll be fine!!! -
To be honest I have had my surgery June 5 th I am not gonna say its easy bc none of this easy it is though a great way to see who loves ad supports u no matter what u do in ur life .. I have had many conversations with my husband before deciding this surgery and he has tried to feed me things I can't eat before surgery .. I did confront him and tell him how I felt since he was so stuck I don't need it.. But in the end it was my decision to b alive to see me children grow and I made that very clear .. I am now 5 days post-op and he has be wonderful he has helped me in any ways he possibly can I am truly grateful .. But to the point is that u have to do this always for yourself it is the most important thing and friends honestly I've lost many only bc as one of u ladies say I was doing good things for myself I lost 38 lbs before surgery in 2 1/2 mths but cutting all bad food out n water and fuze slenderized as my only beverage .. You all can do this and be very proud of yourselves bc only strong women and men can truly do this surgery and be happy and successful xoxo

Menstrual maddness!
lucky1gg33 replied to Lanewboricua's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my surgery on 4/27 and had my period during preop diet. I am not on BC but my bf is fixed. Well...no period for 3 months! But, just started again yesterday on my flight back from Bahamas. My periods before we're always very heavy and lasted 7-10 days. This one seems lighter....hoping shorter too!! -
I was just discharged from hospital today I had the bypass on 03/31. Bring Chapstick, comfy house shoes, your favorite crystal light, and your favorite hot tea ++ gas x strips. Walk ASAP.. I walked the day I had surgery even though it was excruciating....I cried and walked it takes a while for gas to pass but all the others who had surgery same day as me had to stay addtl night in hospital bc they were in so much pain and not passing gas bc they would not walk. I was worried about having to explain why I wasn't eating, and do you know that not a single person noticed! I was so surprised!! Let me say though - I did carry a plate for a few minutes while I fed my son. There were a couple of things that I had that weren't the best choices, but overall I didn't do too bad.

My surgery was November 2017 (VSG) and I've had issues with breakthrough bleeding on my usual pill, and still despite changing pills about 3 months ago. My provider thinks it could be an absorption issue, which I don't know if I necessarily agree with considering I had VSG and not bypass, but anyways... Has anyone gone to the Nexplanon (arm) birth control after surgery? Thoughts on it? I'm half a** looking into it (aka kind of not really) but wanted to see if anyone had personal experience on here going from pill to arm implant.

Another setback, long.
AvaFern replied to CardinalsGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@CardinalsGirl I also have irregular cycles, however I solved the problem over a decade ago by using depo as my birth control. If you aren't trying to have kids right now and you aren't contraindicated for any other reason, maybe ask your doctor for a switch to depo. You get one shot every three months, which you can give to yourself, and you no longer have a time of the month. While the idea is that it's for birth control, it also works very effectively if you're having extended irregular bleeding. Unlike oral contraceptives, depo is also not contraindicated for surgery so if you are taking the pill already, the switch to depo allows you to stay on birth control when you are approved for the surgery as well, so double win. I haven't had a time of the month in probably a decade. When I was in my early 20's I wasn't using depo for bc so I'd forget to take it for a month or two and then I'd have a few days of the lady friend visiting, but now that I have a doctor that prescribes it so I can just inject myself, as long as I have the shot on schedule, I no longer have any monthly cycle. I also have periodically had anemia issues, and in addition to never having a time of the month I take B12 and an Iron supplement. My values have been fine since. -
Congratulations first and can't wait to see your progress!!! I have BCBS TX Fed but if it's all the same I spent $300. $150 to the surgeon and $150 to hospital for 1 night stay at the hospital

Vegetarian food at the hospital
FarfelDiego replied to imaginegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was fed ensure protein and water. I guess you could bring a plant based protein shake with you. I was just in the hospital 24 hours. -
I had half a glass at 3 weeks out. I took tiny sips and really only had it to blend in since I didn't tell a lot of people. What's funny is that I thought I'd really miss it and coffee, but I just can't "fit" either in anymore bc between the food, protein shakes and fluids, there's no space or time.
