    plateaus and other ungodly events.

Thank you so much KristenLe. You are absolutely correct when you say the scale really comes later. I am back to normal today and know in my heart that if I follow the principles that my med team have suggested, I will be well. I just got back some kidney numbers ( i have stage 3 kidney disease) and they've actually dropped since I began my journey! I don't know if obesity has anything to do directly with the kidneys, I do know that mine was probably brought on by unchecked high blood pressure, but my point is these numbers cheered me up giving me the feeling that i just may have a chance to clean up some of the wreckage I made of my body; I'm thinking that these numbers satisfy more than a size 10 will...
  2. I'm just worried I won't get my results in time for my clearance appt September 25th and before october 6th when they send my paperwork into insurance. My sleep study is from 10pm till 6:30am sep 11th-12th. I guess I'll bring a bandana or something to wear cause I have more tests to do on another floor of the hospital at 10 am and I don't want to shower at the hospital.
  3. Good Morning All.... I had my bypass on May 5th, so tomorrow morning I will be exactly one week out. It has definitely been a week of ups and downs (although mainly ups). Surgery went better and quicker than expected as I also had a large hernia repaired at the same time. I also was released from the hospital a day earlier than I had expected. So things were looking great! Thursday was great but Friday was my day from hell. Everything hurt so bad, and I felt that I could barely move. By Sunday I felt like I was back on the upswing. I was able to walk my block outside without having to stop and catch my breath. I could stand up without feeling like my stomach was dropping to my feet and I was able to enjoy a wonderful mother's day with my family. This morning was the first morning I didn't struggle to roll over in bed or have pain sitting up to get out of bed. So I think I'm starting off my week great. Just one problem...... I still have not gone to the bathroom since surgery. Is this normal? I know I have only had liquids, and am peeing regularly. I am a little concerned as before surgery I took Milalax every morning with my coffee. Maybe I should start taking it again?? Any advice? (btw, down 10 pounds since surgery and 34 pounds total! )
  4. I'm going back this coming week and I was sleeved on 7/10. I am not 100% for sure and I get tired easier than normal (I'm still walking dogs daily, running a few errands at a time, driving, etc) still but I think we can make it work. I'm a hospital based physician so my group is going to try to keep my patients in a couple floors/units of hospital so I don't have to run all over the first week and then I can go at my own pace to see patients and "rest" by sitting and writing notes between them as needed.
  5. If you have the time, take it. Life is too short to work all the time! You never know how fast you will recover, however! I was sleeved 7/10 and went for a 3 mile hike today. Returning to work on Monday. I never expected to be feeling well so quickly.

    Wow, getting excited

@@Nurse_Lenora Congratulations! I have to give you a lot of credit, I could not do the liquid diet for that long. I did well on it but geez, 10 days later I swear my brain was not functioning at 100%. Granted I got so sick of the cloyingly sweet Protein shakes and everything else I was allowed was clear sf liquids.

Help! Need advise on son's band.

Does he like any kind of juice? I poured the Isopure Fruit Punch over crushed ice with some cranberry juice. It helped the taste and texture. Some people just can't stand that texture. (oops, I didn't notice that he will drink the isopure! That's good! It's good Protein and he really doesn't need anything else at this point.) Have you tried some of the slimfast Low Carbs drinks or the Atkins? I'd take him to the store and tell him to find stuff that he'll drink. Allow him to drink anything he wants. At this point, the important thing is that he heals and allows the band to set properly around his stomach. Tell him that calories don't matter at this point, because they truly do not. It's more important to stick with the liquids and allow healing. He's 19 years old and he is now banded. He's going to have to start being responsible for himself and his nutrition. With some guidance from you, I think it will work. But you might have to push him to get serious about finding and trying some other things. Good Luck!
  8. I am on 5/19 I can't wait.
  9. Sx 10/25/12 I started at 243 and officially down to 178..my doctors goal weight based on my body composition and height (5'6) is 168....my overall goal for myself is 140 ..I. trying so hard to reach my doctors goal by oct. I have 7.5 cc in a 11 cc band.
  10. Prior to surgery my family and I would eat out about 10 times a week. I know this is AWFUL!!! At any rate, my life evolved around fast food, resturants, etc. I am amazed that since this surgery I have not once wanted food from a take out, fast food type of place. I really thought this would be something I would have to contend with. Has anyone else experienced this?
  11. I am very sad and depressed right now.. half way through the six-month pre-bariatric program at my hospital, I finally met with the surgeon a month ago. He determined : 1) because I was still living on Prednisone for my Myasthenia Gravis, and had had surgical complications 4 years ago after an automobile accident left me with a perforated colon; and 2). a knee injury which left me in a wheelchair for 3 months this spring created DVT blood clots- that I was not a candidate for elective surgery at this time. I cried for days afterward. In my car, in the grocery store, in my art studio. I could not stop crying. I live with a rare neuro-muscular disease, and finally had to be placed on high dose steroids for it (100 mg/day) 19 years ago. Or should I say, 140 lbs ago? Steroids down to 10 mg/day now with IVIG infusions every 4 weeks. Evidently IV immunoglobin doesn’t effect surgical healing the way that Prednisone does. Dr. pointed out that even if I had been otherwise healthy, the DVTs alone would have postponed the surgery by 10-12 months. We made a loose date for reevaluation in June 2019, if my neurologist can get me off of the steroids completely six months prior by increasing the frequency of the IVIG doses. I was looking into this surgery 4 years ago right before the bus accident, and the possibility of finally having it got me through the multiple horrific resection surgeries. I am still eligible for the sleeve gastrectomy, but know that it will take fortitude to stick with the ‘non-surgical weight loss program’, rehab and exercising and prednisone tapering until my reevaluation in the Spring. It just feels like a dream slipping away, and I am having trouble staying motivated with my program. Has anyone else experienced surgical postponements for underlying medical conditions? Very much looking for motivation advice. Thank you.
  12. I get my first full tomorrow and my surgery was 2/19. So that's, what-- 7 weeks? Seems my surgeon is extra conservative. I don't mind so much because I am learning more every day. I feel like if I can limit myself now, without any restriction, then I am bound to be successful down the road.
  13. Hey everyone. I am only about 9 days out from getting my sleeve. I have been trying to transition to full liquids on my plan, but literally everything makes my stomach cramp. It's like I almost feel like I have a stomach virus every time I put something into my sleeve. Even my stage one liquids are starting to bother me. I feel so miserable and slightly regretting my decision of doing this. I just want to feel better. Please tell me someone else has experienced this and knows how to help me. 14. Today is my 19th day since having this surgery vsg. That I did want... I have lost 24 lbs . Which I am thrilled with... since Fri so 5 days ago. I have not lost 1oz....... have stayed the exact same weight to the oz..... also my hormones must be going crazy. 15. Hi Steve, congratulations on your upcoming banding date. I was banded on 4/10/06. I had my surgery with Dr. Kuri, in TJ, Mexico. What a great experience it was. I am also on his board which is only open to his patients. It is my understanding that the first 8 weeks post op is very important so that the healing process can be complete. I also have learned that the band slippage is a very small percentage. Make sure that you do everything the Dr. tells you during your recoup period. I have been very careful not to pick up over ten pounds. And I am less concerned about how much weight I lose during this time than I am about the healing process. I have lost 20lbs so I am doing fine. I will be going for my first fill on June 17. Who is doing your surgery? Elaine
  16. Thanks for all of the great suggestions. The saltine soup cracker just might do the trick. All I need is one or two. The graham cracker sounds good too. I want to be careful due to carbs. I have been telling myself that I have made it this far, what is another couple of days? My next f/u appt is still 10 days away (scheduled more than the normal 2 weeks due to MD being on vacation) so I will have a few extra days on mushies, but it actually hasn't been that bad. The food processor has helped greatly. I am not feeling deprived other than the craving to crunch! Thanks again

    Losing slow, but it's ok!

I don't have either of those surgeries. I have the band and I'm happy with it. I'm averaging 10 lb a month. I'm going with slow and steady. I've not advertised my WLS and people are noticing my loss, but not going "oh you have lost so much weight you must have had WLS." For me I'm happy to be constantly losing each month instead of gaining. Banded 10/12/16
  18. Wow! I do hope your surgeon can help you and you will be able to swallow without difficulty very soon. I was fortunate and did not have this extreme side effect but at 10 years post-op I still have the occasional "food getting stuck" in my throat but I just sit and wait it out or I wind up vomiting if it is very badly stuck but have never had to go to the ER. I do still having "dumping" issues from time to time but I have learned which foods to avoid eating. Keep your chin up and hopefully this will be resolved very soon.
  19. Hello Everyone! I am excited to be posting here...I lurk often but decided to get in here and ask my questions. I was banded 5 1/2 years ago. I was very successful and lost almost 100 lbs in about 10 months. I am sad to say that I am back at my pre-surgery weight today. I had many problems with acid reflux and had most of the saline let out of the band about 4 years ago and the rest is history. After much sadness and thought...I am 100% ready to get back on track and try again. I have an appointment on Tuesday for a fill. I am looking for some tips on how to get back on track. Does anyone have any tips for my fills...it has been so long. Acid reflux tips? Or has anyone been in my boat....lost a bunch, gained it back, then got back on track? Thanks everyone for your support. I am ready to do this!

    probiotics

I looked on Amazon and decided on the Now brand Probiotic -10 with a 50 Billion count. Keep it refrigerated for best results. I've definitely found that my weight loss is better sustained when I take one every day.

    Pre-op diet

Great job! It's best to have a head start before the pre-op hits you like a freight train! I have been on liquids for 11 days now and my surgery is this Friday 12/14 at 10:30! Now it's just liquid in- liquid out, but I feel so good!
  22. I was sleeved on May 3rd, and was told nothing but clear liquids only for 10 days after surgery. Followed by full liquids for another 4 days before allowing strained soups and such. Its hard, but I've lost 22 lb since the surgery :-D

    The Journey Begins!

No longer 300 lbs !!!!!! The 1st time in over 10 years under 300 lbs
  24. I'm 5 weeks out. No problems with food but fluids nauseate me. 32 ounces a day is my max. Also about 50 grams of protein. I have multiple food allergies which make so hard. Highly allergic to soy, wheat, sea salt so almost all protein shakes and protein bars are out. This is very difficult because salad was what I ate prior to surgery with fat free cheese which only has 2 grams of protein per slice. I guess I probably only got 10 grams of protein per day prior to surgery my whole life since I ate mostly vegatables and it is very annoying eating all things I don't like now to force eat protein!!
  25. I had my 3week post op appointment two days ago. I was feeling great on the way in because it was weigh in. I don't own a scale. HW was 255. SW 249. I weighed at my parents pool 10 days post op -232. Drum roll for official weigh in at docs... 233. Wtf? I was inches smaller in those 11 days!? I can see shrinkage in my thighs and waist. Gah! Where are those pounds stuck to me!? (Rechecks own ass, notes reduced size. Shrugs) I am tracking that food, baby. Every day. Getting my ton of protein and keeping the calories down. What's the score? My doc is fine with the 15 pounds in three weeks, but I have just held there for 10 days!
