I had RYN gastric bypass approximately 10 years ago. I have joined this site to possibly share my experiences and to possibly help others who have either had the surgery or are considering it.
I have lost 125 pounds, lost the 100 in the first year. The physical improvements healthwise were immediate. I no longer needed blood pressure medications, my mental health vastly improved. However, it also changed my personality somewhat. I was in a very unhappy marriage for 27 years and finally had sufficient self-esteem to finally divorce.
I found dating somewhat difficult due to some negative changes to my body. Due to the massive weight loss, I now having hanging skin, an apron or flap of skin hanging from my stomach, hanging skin on my upper arms and legs. I did meet the perfect man who accepted me for who I am and how I look.
My body does make me self-conscious especially wearing a bathing suit but otherwise but regular clothing does hide most of my body issues.
Would I do it again? Definitely yes. I just wish someone had been a little more up front about the potential side effects to the body. I have chosen not to have corrective surgery but that is mainly due to other health issues and the cost.
