Thanks to all of you that chimed in. I am so looking forward to getting started. I go for all my preop stuff on the 21st and the date for surgery is tenatively set for 10/3. My Surgeon is Dr.Terry Pinson at the North Mississippi medical center Bariatric Center. It is great comfort to me to see so many people from so many different states that have had such amazing stories of success. Can't wait to be one:001_smile:

I am beyond stressing! My surgery was approved and scheduled for 9/29. I had my medical clearance appointment this past weekend. My doctor never sent the script for a spleen ultrasound he wants done because on existing issue I have with my platelets. Fine. That's now scheduled for the Tuesday before the surgery. I had the ekg, blood work, and chest X-ray. The nurse at the hospital said it has to be sent over to my primary doctor for the clearance but everything looks great. I get to my primary today and he reviews it and says there is a problem with my ekg and he wants to repeat it. He does and the problem is still there. Inverted t waves. Said I need a stress test before he can clear me. I go to schedule it and nothing free until mid October. They are going to try and fit me in Monday. I go home and Google inverted t waves and now think I am about to have a heart attack any second! Im so nervous about my heart and I don't think the surgery is going to happen next week! Just venting. Thanks for getting this far lol. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

lapbanding vs weight watchers
gigglypug replied to bmihigh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weight loss rates will all be around 1-2 lbs/week on the average, since your body is only able to burn so many calories a week. Initially, weight loss will be faster because your body burns glycogen instead of fat, which has lower energy density (it takes more grams glycogen to produce a given amount of energy than it would fat) and you lose a lot of Water in the process. Counting calories is crucial during the initial weeks/months of lap band until proper restriction is achieved. At that point, many people stop and rely on the band to do the work, others keep logging to keep overall control of their intake (most of us gained their weight by simply not paying attention). I usually log everything in Daily Plate, but dinners like yesterday's are impossible...two coworkers and I were at a Tapas restaurant and ordered 6 different small plates to share (if turned out too much food). All complex dishes with unknown ingredients and I had a bite of each....how to log? I've never done weight watchers, but from what I understand, the counting there never becomes optional. Lastly, there seem to be quite a few people who are afraid of being too tight (higher restriction levels often associated with long-term side effects) and intentionally or not stop before reaching the green zone. Some of them still have some restriction , but overall the weight loss is done by counting cals/carbs etc I say, do whatever works for you :-) -
Hi Neil, This Texas native LOVES Beans in chili, no matter what the die-hards say. Tough to 'em. Beans sort of "make" the chili for me. They're great nutritionally and serve as a thickener, too, so I say enjoy and tune out the nay-sayers. This chili looks delicious. I wonder if you have any thoughts about small-quantity cooking of stuff like this--I know I could make it and freeze it, but honestly, I eat around 1/4 cup (if I'm lucky!) of food at a time, and it would take me forever to get through an entire batch of chili. 1 can of Soup pretty much means 5 or 6 meals for me, and I get tired of it by the time I've had 3 or 4. I can purchase meat by the ounce (or by the 1/4 or 1/2 pound), so do you think this recipe would "cut down" okay?

I'm just fact-finding as of now and have been reading posts about keeping track of calories, etc. and only losing 1-2 lbs per week. How is this different from weight watchers?

Pre-Surgery Food Meltdowns!!
ashleey921 replied to lisaluv11's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im going through the same thing. My surgery is set for 9/1 and I have been doing good during the day at work but of course when I get home is when I cave. It hasn't been consistent but I have had some slip ups. Gonna refocus today and be on point from today until next week. I would hate to be told I have to reschedule for something I have full control over. -
My gastric sleeve surgery is scheduled for this coming Thursday. I have been panicking, and as a result, I have been eating one big meal per day since my two week liquid pre-op diet started! I have been doing liquids for the majority of the day, but end up caving by the time evening comes. Yesterday was a good day because I stuck to the liquids. However, I'm petrified now because it's so close to my surgery, and this evening was not a good one. Any words of encouragement or advice on what to do? Is there any way that i will still be ok by Thursday?

For my bypass my insurance paid over $70k. I paid $3500 out of pocket. It's crazy how much this cost! 6 weeks post op I ended up back in the hospital for dehydration, UTI, and a stricture. For my 2.5 day stay and EGD my insurance paid 20k. Just crazy!! Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk

Ldimples replied to Tamster01's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I struggled this weekends, it was really hard. I do better during the week because I'm at work and I'm very busy. To make things worse I have been sick. I just got finish telling myself you can do this, so I got up and got a protein drink. I want a bag of chips so bad right now. It is a mind thing. If I get to hungry, I have been eating eggs or broth with white chicken meat in it. In my house Sunday is pasta night, this was the worse night yet. I love, no, I am addicted to pasta. ????. Not being able to eat pasta last night made me very depressed ????. It even made me rethink about having the procedure. I went to my room closed the door and I survived. 10 more days, seems so long. I have lost 15 pounds already. -

Help! I've overeaten
jingleboob replied to kentx05's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just started "real" food on Friday and we had pancakes over the weekend... our 11 year old made them (and made gorgeous pancakes... I'm quite proud) and I had about 3/4 of one and knew instantly it was a mistake. PB, slime, all of it... hurt all day long. Friggin pancakes!!! -

Im completely stressed out and so nervous. .. I cant believe in just 6 days I will be a tru sleever. I recently broke up with my now ex boyfriend a few days after valentine's day. To get back with my ex husband who hold my heart but it pains me to hurt some1 . But his feelings for my surgery was fake support and he already started smothering ne after losing a little more the 20 pounds.. knowing that my surgery was 2 weeks away he bought me a bunch of different cakes n brownie n Cookies n ice cream n got mad when I said I cant eat it. He stole my fone to check it kuz he thought I was talking to some1 behind his back. All this because im losing weight I had to leave quick. My ex husband and I had always been friends n about a week ago we talked about giving us another shot. He knows about my surgery n he is ex military n he is willing to help me thru everything. N help train with him to get back in shape. Tho there are things we have to work out n figure where this is truly going weather it works or not he is still willing to be by my side and help me thru my journey. Im so excited yet scared. Cant wait till I can come on here with a post-op story so excited -
Hi Dancer, I am 12 days out and I am returning to work tomorrow. I feel full of energy and am not tired at all. You should be fine after 2 weeks.
-
Welcome Dancer! Congratulations on your decision to have the VSG. Like others have mentioned, the first couple of weeks I found myself very tired. I didn't quite get all of my energy back at the two week mark, but think I would have been fine going back to work. Good luck with your pre-op stuff! This is a great place to be to get your questions answered.

Scale FINALLY moved! Sleeved on 3/19
mark! replied to WeightStruggle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost pretty quick the first 2 weeks, then hit a wall. So, I killed my scale. It is not my friend, it's my enemy. There's no reason for me to fret each day I step on the scale and get pissed off and want to kick my dog. So, in light of resetting everything, my emotions and attitude, I'm not going to let that piece of glass and plastic decide how I feel today. I started weighing only once a week, sometimes not even that. I honestly don't care anymore about weighing. I do what I'm supposed to. I get my calories in, my Protein in, Vitamins, etc and I bust my ass in the gym and during workouts. I know I'm getting healthier, I don't need a number on the scale to tell me that. Congrats on the weight loss and the beginning of your new life. It's exciting! -

My surgery was at 7:30 this morning. I was sooooo exhausted that I have slept all day! I did get up and walk which was not to do at all. There is pain but it has been controlled with the drip and a of yet have not felt really sick....looking forward to all the positive changes that will transpire for me due to this surgery and my determination. For everyone who is going through surgery in the coming weeks and months....keep your eyes on the prize and keep moving forward!!!!!
