Hello everyone, my name is Chris and I am in the process of getting the Lap Band. I have already had my consultation, nutrition evaluation and psych evaluation per my insurance. I am one of the luck ones in that my insurance will pay for 80% of my surgery. I am hopeing to have a surgery date within the next week or two, and hopefully have surgery next month. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on regarding the Lap Band and just wanted to thank everyone who posts here, you have answered a lot of questions and really given me hope. I know I can do it!!!

I would say my best advise is take off at least 1 week, start walking right away, and buy plenty of different kinds of Protein drinks. I bought a variety and it helped because you get bored drinking the same thing meal after meal.

Also, reward yourself for small goals. It helps. THe first 4 weeks were the hardest for me. I thought I would never make it though the liquid stage. I, however, lost alot of weight during that time.

Hi Everyone Banded - 10/27/2011
thebandedman replied to Bluedevil11's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded 10/25/11 and am starting week 6 solid foods today. I'm shocked it takes me so long to get hungry. My weight loss has stalled even with increased exercise. I know I have another week of healing but I got used to seeing those numbers decrease every day . I consume 1000 - 1100 calories per day and average a 2900 calorie burn per my BodyBugg. I am shrinking in areas so I know my body is making changes . TBM -

New to vertical sleeve talk

Welcome to the site. My nutritionist says there is no real hunger, that the hunger is in your head. In surgery, the part of the stomach that "gets hungry" is removed. I don't know what to say about the nausea. Are you eating very, very slowly, chewing your food very, very well, eating very, very small bites and eating only small amounts at any given time? Are you sure you still need to crush your meds? I only had to do so for about three weeks. If you need to, mix the crushed meds with applesauce or pudding, something with flavor. I took one pill that was very bitter when crushed. It was vile tasting no matter what I mixed it with. I just had to buck up and take it anyway. It is only for a short time. In fact, all of your difficulties are only for a short time. Hang in there and give us updates on your situation. -
Hello, I am very happy that I found this site. It has made my decision to get LAP-BAND® much easier. I am still in the pre-op process. I went for my psych eval last week. I am waiting for insurance approval. I hope it doesn't take long. I go back to the Dr. on Nov. 17th. My Dr. requires a 3 mo. weight loss attempt before surgery. My journey started Sept. 5 so it will be a little while before my surgery but I am very excited and a little nervous.

Hi and welcome, I live in the UK. Well done for making the decision to go ahead with surgery, its a big step. I am currently on the pre-op diet which is two weeks of nothing more than fluids with a few jelly pots thrown in for good measure. Its tougher than i anticipated, and if its a pre-requisite of whats to come then I know i'm going to have to be strong and committed. Like you I was a tubby child that turned into a fat teenager thats turned into an obese adult, I yo-yo'd for years and then I had my son in 2003 and weight just wouldn't shift. I developed Diabetes type 2 and Hypertension, I spoke to my Dr and she made me read up loads on the internet on Bariatric medicine, and here I am 6 months later on my pre-op diet and my surgery is scheduled for next Friday 24th. I wanted to improve my health so I would be around to see my son grow-up and with luck his kids too. This site has proved invaluable for hints tips and information, even in the short time I've been using it. I know it will help you to. The surgery is the easy part I'm sure of that, its the living with the band and its restrictions thats the hard part.:rolleyes2:

I've been in a 2 1/2 week stall, it's driving me crazy. I'm trying to be patient because I've read enough threads to know its common but that crazy voice in my head keeps saying "this isn't going to work like the band" I'm going to have my husband put the scale in his car so I can't weigh every morning! Okay, I been wondering this for the last couple of days. If we can do liquid diets some up to 3 weeks then why can we not control what we eat other times and not have the band? I am wondering if I can do this why should I spend the money on getting the band if I am going to have to have the strength of liquid diets? Is it because we see an end to all this madness of struggling with food?

Newbie...New Orleans area
Pam in MI replied to bigguy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome Big Guy and Jtag! I just joined the bandsters this week and this forum has been a Godsend! I'm hoping my surgery will be in August. How I made the decision - I'm basically a positive person - except when it comes to my weight issue which I've battled all my life. when I was in high school I weighed between 135 and 150 - yep thought I was fat! I'm 5'8". Then when I got married I thought I was fat. Then I had a kid and another and another. Now I AM fat! Anyway, my sister (who is so incredibly thin and has been all her life) sent me a DVD of "The Secret". I guess she heard about it on Oprah. It's a little hokey, but the message of positve thinking just really stuck. For some reason I looked at my weight issue a little differently that day and just believed I would lose weight. I had no idea how. That was just a month ago. One night about 3 weeks ago I just decided on a whim to Google "lap band". I spent about 3 hours researching the procedure and doctors. The doctor I've chose is 3 1/2 hours away, but I'm happy with my choice. I just feel an incredible draw to him! The next morning as I was getting ready for work I turned on the tv and there was a commercial for lap band! I knew it was meant to be! Had my psych eval today and I "passed" with flying colors. The pyschologist told me she thought I'd do really well even with the pre surgery liquid diet. That's the only part of this whole process that I'm a little concerned about. all I need to do is talk to the dietician and my paprework will be sent in to insurance. I will be talking to her some time next week. They are allowing me to talk to her over the phone because of the distance. With everyone's summer vacations I couldn't get both appts at the same time BE POSITIVE:) -
Thanks for the advice. We are hoping at least 1 week apart but right now I think we just want to do it so we will take any date. We do have a great support system too. So we will see! Nice meeting you! Amy

Hey everyone! Just wanted to Introduce myself and talk on the site more now that I am getting closer to the surgery time. I have been reading the site for months but hardly responded to threads. I am 28 years old with a BMI of 40. I am about half way through all my stuff and will be completed Sept 5. So then my Dr. can scheldue my surgery. I have done the Support Group (it was a little boring). Not that I didnt like the people it was just everyone seemed to be a lot older then me. And they were complaining alot about the food restrictions and talking about how to cheat. The first hour was spent talking about how to organize your home. I wanted to talk about the LapBand! But I guess they get tired of talking about it. I have my Psych Eval tomorrow and then I take my Psych Eval test (its like a 2 hour test) at the end of the week. My Nutrition class is next Thursday and I am getting my Labs done next week. Thats all I need to do. My company's insurance has "Obesity Clause" in it so it means they specifically wrote in that they will pay for WLS. You just have to be 40 BMI or 35-40 with 1 comorb. I have no co morb so I meet because I am 40 BMI. My sister had gastric 5 years ago and she has a lot of little problems so I figured LapBand was better for me. My hubby is also getting the surgery. All of our appointments are the same days..so we may even get the surgery the same day! Can't wait to start this Journey! I cant wait till I get my surgery date. I have heard it prolly will be the end of October/early November. Nice to Meet everyone!

Stopping Bc Pills For Surgery
Finding Myself replied to Finding Myself's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you Shoelover! That's kind of what I was planning. I would be due to start a new pack next weekend, with surgery 2.5 weeks later. So I figure I just won't start a new pack! I also figure my cycles are gonna be pretty crazy for a few months anyway! Did you see this? -
Hi everyone...I was banded Oct. 3/07. I'm feeling a little down today and really want to eat something solid. I guess that is normal but it has me a little worried. Anyway looking forward to reading all of the posts and getting lots of suggestions to help me along. Thanks Nancy

Angie - welcome to LBT! Do your research. This forum is a great resource and full of experience, both good and bad. Know what to expect. Getting the band isn't a quick fix. You will lose slowly (much more than bypass). You'll also get out of it what you put into it. The band is just a tool. If used correctly, it can change your life. As for the pain - I've had two c-sections. If you've had a baby, this thing is a breeze. Not to say the surgery and recovery are a non-event, they're just easier to recover from. I went online and watched the surgery before hand. I'm one of those people that HAS to know everything before I make an informed decision. I was glad I watched it and regret that I made DH. He freaked out on me...lol Men can be babies sometimes. I felt like myself a week after surgery. There is soreness and small incisions to recover from. The worse part is for me was the internal gas. After a couple weeks all that passes. The diet was something that was tough for me following surgery. liquids suck, mushies suck. Don't let anyone else tell you differently (IMO). I was so happy to be able to chew again once my doc put me on solids...it was worth every broth, mushy or liquid drink!!! I now buy healthier foods and my kids are even eating better now. I cook healthier too. We used to eat out 4-5 times a week. Now we eat out maybe 3x a month. My entire lifestyle has changed. It wasn't easy, and still isn't easy. Every day is a struggle for me. But, for the first time in my life I am aware of what I am putting into my body. I feel 200% better and would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

Hello everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself -- my name is Melissa and I'll be having surgery on Wednesday, 15 August. I'm thrilled to have been approved insurance-wise (which was the only hold-up I have encountered) and I honestly can't believe that in less than a week I'll be well on my way to a new me! I'm going to check out this site a bit more thoroughly. I don't know yet what my challenges are going to be. I guess I'm not really looking forward to the liquid diet but I'll manage . Has anyone experienced a really significant weight loss in the first few months? It'd be nice to drop a few pounds early on . -

My name is Shauntrell and I was banned 3/10/14. After the first 2 weeks of my liquid diet I had lost 18 lbs. I thought I was on the right track. After my 6 week post-op visit I was down a total of 22 lbs. I rcvd my first fill which was 3 cc's on 4/23/14. Afterwards, I felt no restriction at all and was hungry all the time. 12 week check up I rcvd a fill of .5 cc's and had only lost 4 lbs. 18 week checkup was 7/16...still feeling hungry and had only lost .5 lbs. My dr gave me another 1.5 cc's. I am currently at 5 cc's but still feeling no restriction at all. Any advice? My next appt is 8/27.

I am new to this forum. I had RUX-N-Y on November 20, 2012. So far I have lost 19lbs. Unfortunately, I have gained and lost the same 1lb for the last 2 1/2 weeks. Has anyone else experienced this. I am walking more, taking in more protein and trying to eat a little more (which is very difficult to do) to try and jump start my weight loss again. I am so afraid that I won't lose anymore weight. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Surgery: November 1st and I'm down 31 pounds! Doctor said I should average 10lbs a month for the first 6 months.. What!?? She must be mistaking.. Cause I go a week or two of no weight loss.. I eat what's required and walk at least 30 minutes a day. I sure hope I lose like she thinks I will...

Hi everyone! My name is Heather. I live in East Central Minnesota. I am married to my high school sweetheart of 18 years now. I have two boys, 15 and 8. I work full time as a licensed practical nurse and go to college part time to become a registered nurse. Like many of you, I have been overweight the majority of my life. I was teased in school, and often as an adult I hear disparaging comments. I have been considering gastric surgery for the past 10 years. I looked into it again after I saw a patient having great success, and I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I am 5'4" and weigh 255 lbs. This is the heaviest I have been. I have done all of the diets with some temporary success. I have always gained the weight back, with a little extra bonus weight added on too. I have one more month of seeing the required dietician before my "case" is submitted to insurance. The time has seemed to fly by until now. Since college classes start again for me on Monday, I am hoping I won't have much time to pace the floor waiting for time to pass. This forum has been a great resource. I hope that along with you all, I can someday share my experience and success! You all are a blessing to me!!! <3 Heather

Welcome Sandy You have just made the best choice for your life. It is fun to watch your body change and get thinner, Im just 5 weeks out and have dropped a pant size already. I also was self pay and went to Mexico, I had soo many people freaking out before I went. I had Dr Almanza and I had a wonderful experience too. They were very supportive and caring. Keep posting we love to hear about different journeys. Bernadette
