I can't help but smirk when I read this. I went through the same chit. Lol I know it's hard. Gets a little easier each week. Some faster for others. I am 6wks and guess what I had for dinner? Greek yogurt. That's it. Why? Cause I was feeling like u. Solids are still hard for me.

I'm having my surgery tomorrow morning (ahhhh!!) but I'm doing some last minute shopping today. I've already purchased everything my surgery center advised me to get to eat post-op, but I'm curious if anyone has any great recipes for full liquid diet post-op? anything exciting or different that helped get you through the full liquid diet stage. I will be on fulls for 2 weeks post op, and I'm sure I'll get sick of yogurt, broth, jello, cream of wheat etc. Thanks in advance!!

I think it depends on the environment you work in. I work from home, so obviously not an issue. Some people, like those who work in nursing or retail, may have rules against drinking/eating while on duty. In this case, it's best to talk to HR or a manager about getting a doctor's note to allow them to eat/drink while working. After surgery, it's not possible to eat and drink quickly, and you will need to sip all day to get your fluids in. If you have an active or outdoors job, it's even more important to be drinking a lot. I'm not sure why a smoothie in particular would be difficult to drink at work, although you'd have to have someplace to wash the container so it doesn't get gross. I assume you would make it at home? Probably for the first few weeks/months a smoothie wouldn't be the best bet as it's too much fiber and not enough protein; a protein shake is better for that (personally I can only tolerate the premade kind because the ones make with powder always seem gritty to me). I also am eating a lot of yogurt; maybe you will need a small lunch bag/box that is insulated and some ice packs which you can buy cheaply on Amazon.

You can make a bean dip with black beans, blackeyed peas, or kidney beans. You can also do a 3-bean or 7-bean salad. Anything with cheese has a lot of protein but also fat. You can make a dip with plain greek yogurt and ranch dressing mix or French onion mix. Unjury makes a protein powder cheese sauce that you can make and have over your veggies.

I'd LOVE to see the quinona/bean salad and the Greek Yogurt cheese recepies!!!

well according to my fitness pal, one of them has 4 gms of carbs. if you fill them with meat as the recipes suggest, I doubt we'll be able to eat more than 2 of those little cupcakey things, so that's maybe 8 gms. If you're doing about 40-60 gms of carb a day, 8 is doable. I mean, yogurt has more than that so it seems doable to me.

Donna....I love your disclaimer. If I start growing mold I'll definitely call my doctor. Donna & Leatha...I agree with both of you. I need to go on liquids. Maybe I'm just irritated and swollen. I had a hard time staying on liquids for the first 48 hours that my dr. required. Maybe since I have restriction now it'll be easier to stick to liquids. This is why I love this site. I only know 1 other person who has had this procedure and I really don't talk to her very often. I'm so new at this and I appreciate how fast people reply to my questions. Would yogurt or Jello count as liquids?

I can do liquids, although not first thing in the morning. I can eat ice cream:) and yogurt. We had spaghetti tonight for supper and I was eating only meat and sauce. I took a bite, PB'd and then a few minutes later was able to eat about a 1/4 a cup of meat and sauce. At lunch today I was trying to eat vegetable soup and I couldn't eat the first bite. I PB'd and then about an hour later ate about 1/2 a cup of soup. I'm taking small bites and chewing very well. How would I know if I was close to a real medical problem? I am trying to drink protein shakes. I'm not hungry and I really don't feel weak.

I like salmon too! Seems to be really popular! Bake it in tin foil with pesto on top of it! YUM! my son loves it too! Tuna is a life saver too. Greek yogurt is good, cottage cheese is yummy, working with the Babybel cheeses too Parmesan Tilapia is good, ingredients fixed to be lowfat though. very good -
High Protein/low Fat Foods...
meyouus replied to Secondchanceatlife's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Mis73, Thank you so much. I'll have to buy a cup of Greek yogurt to try it, but I don't like plain yogurt. And I wouldn't know how to use it. Any more suggestions anyone? As for the cheese, it's a do'er! -
I don't think its bad necessarily for you to be below 1000 caories for a few days -- but IMHO its all of the yo-yo dieting we've done over the years that has messed up our metabolisms -- so a low calorie plan for a few days or weeks might trigger gain once you start eating more calories. And of course if you cut out carbs, once you have them you could regain some, but with that said, instead of a liquid diet - have you tried the plateau busting diet? I am sure you have seen it: (I have it saved but haven't tried it yet!) Dr. Fox' weight loss plateau/stall diet. Heard of it? It's ONLY for 10 days.....We could easily drop 10 pounds doing this...<o =""></o> 2 quarts of Water EVERDAY<o =""></o> 45 grms Protein supplements EVERYDAY<o =""></o> Daily Vitamins<o =""></o> 3 oz. of the following 5 times a day<o =""></o> Beef<o =""></o> Pork<o =""></o> chicken<o =""></o> <st1:country-region><st1 ="">Turkey</st1></st1:country-region><o =""></o> Lamb<o =""></o> Fish<o =""></o> eggs<o =""></o> low-fat cheese<o =""></o> cottage cheese<o =""></o> plain yogurt<o =""></o> Peanut Butter<o =""></o> beans/legumes<o =""></o> <o =""></o> You can also have sugar free popsicles (no real fruit ones though)<o =""></o> tea/coffee/diet soda/crystal lite<o =""></o> 30 mintues of exercise a day.....or more if you wish. Got my second fill yesterday, and I can finally tell that I have some restriction. I did only liquids yesterday and didnt get hungry. Today I can do mushy foods and I was only able to eat half a yogurt this morning. So hang in there it will finally come at some point. Good luck.

Question fo folks 6+ months out
mnbsleeve replied to Rev Me Up!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Rev! I'm only 4 and 1/2 months out but have struggled with some of the things you talk about. I wanted to share that a big challenge for me has been getting the shakes in. I too have had lots of trouble getting them in which in turn caused the problems with the rest of my food intake as you discribed. What I did to get those suckers down is relaxed the rules. In other words, my NUT wanted me to keep the carbs below 5 per drink and Protein of at LEAST 20. I am lactose intolerant big time now and for some reason, just about all shakes give me the runs, if I don't puke first! Sorry :-) None of the powders/soups/drinks seem to work! What I do now is use soy milk and frozen fruit, sometimes fresh, like blueberries or strawberries. I've also been able to tolerate yogurt so I ad some of that and I found a whey protein that has many more carbs but I use that and double up. I can get up to 50 grams of protein in one shake! If I can't finish the entire shake in the morning, I save it and finish it in the afternoon. (I bought a bullet which really helps) This has made a HUGE difference in how I feel and in keeping me even keeled. I have lots of energy to work out as well -- although on occasion I get that "weak feeling" starting in my arms, like they are super heavy. Then I know I'm low on nutrition. I also have a juicer and juice greens - green vegies, especially leafy greens. I don't juice fruit because of the sugar content. I use to do this before surgey as well. You can get fluids in but most importantly a ton of nutrition!!! I have to say, you have to get used to the flavor, but for me, it feels like I take a shot of some kind of magic because it realy energizes me immediately. I really missed it when I could not do it right after surgery. I get organic greens. You don't have to do much. I do about 8oz worth, but you may want to try 3 - 4oz in the begining. Just juice a few kale leaves, celery stalk and cucumber, for example. You can also add a litte parsley. Juicers can be expensive but in my opinion, they are worth it. You get lots of antioxidants as well as vitamines and minerals. (sounds like a commercial, LOL) Like Amanda, I turn to a "to go" shake when I am out and about and struggle with what to eat, what sounds right etc. But use the Ensure, lactose intolerant. Again, it's got more carbs and cals than my NUT would like, but too bad! At least I eat and feel right. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR UPCOMING NUPTUALS!!!!! I imagine what a stressful time this must be, especially with the holidays and all the "fun stuff" you describe! :-) It's possible that all of the preparations in themselves are taking a bit of a toll and things may just get better (i.e., more energy, relaxed, mood,) after the big day! There's alot going on in your life right now and I would not underestimate the effect these things have on our state of being! I wish you a beautiful day!!!!! Hope to see pics in the future!!!! and congrats on ALL you have accomplished!!!!! PS: the Vitamin tip from meggie sounds good too! especially during this stressful time! Be well! -
Scared out of my mind
leahhindi replied to haleymarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@haleymarie - what does your diet consist of? My liquid diet includes Soups, broth, yogurt, Jello, shakes, unlimited steamed or raw vegetables (NO DRESSING OR SAUCES) and skim milk. Yesterday, I reinterpreted the diet to include thinned out sugar free pudding. :-) I added something called GENEPRO medical grade Protein. It has 30 grams of protein in one tablespoon. It is odorless and tasteless and didn't even change the consistency of the pudding. I have been having a very difficult time getting down the shakes so wasn't taking in enough protein or calories and this is helping me tremendously. Thanks to this Protein powder, I met my calorie/protein requirements yesterday and I did not feel exhausted and nauseous. Now I am sure some experienced VSGers will tell you 100 reasons why this protein powder isn't "good enough" or "preferred" but right now, I have to get thru this and if a 60 calorie cup of thinned out protein 2x a day is getting in my protein requirements, I'm just peachy with it! -
Breyer's No Sugar, Low Fat Question.
Marty McSkinnystein posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 days out. On my list I can have yogurt like lemon light and fit dannon, thinned cream of wheat, in addition to of course, protein shakes and other liquids. So I took about a half cup of this vanilla ice cream which is totally melty because I'm having it so slowwwwwly. Honestly because of the 10 day pre-liquid diet this is the best thing I've had in 3 weeks. Question, how fast will I know if it isn't a wise choice? Will I possibly get diarrhea or nausea later. I seem to be tolerating it so well but of all the horror stories I'm not sure when I'd be out of the woods so to speak. Did anyone have this in the very beginning? So far I had 2 protein shakes (totaling 65 grams of protein today), some water and this. Thanks! -
I eat bananas every day too! no problems at all. Hey here is an idea for those have a hard time with bananas, put a banana in a mini food processor, scoop into a little cup, freeze overnight. You got yourself a healthy frozen treat! You can also get creative with this and add other fruits, yogurts, etc...

With a microwave and refrigerator your option are endless! Easy Cold foods: cheese and fruit, boiled eggs, greek yogurt parfait, cottage cheese bowls, hummus and vegetable sticks, tuna salad, chicken salad, protein chips and guacamole, nut butters on crispbreads Easy Warm Foods: chili, quiche, kinda creamy chicken and spinach, sorta teriyaki grilled tofu, chickpea stew, zoodle lasagna, ricotta bake, meatballs, various soups and stews Meal prepping really helps especially if you can freeze meals individually and take with you as needed Safe Journey!

Hi, im 12 days post op...tried onion broth with a bit of melted mozzerella and went through 1 hour of deadly reflux and i threw up a few times..I guess everyone goes through it. I was just wondering if i could eat watermelon or yogurt? Im a bit scared of yogurn from that mozzerrella reaction..I would really appreciate it if i heard what people were eating around this time...if anything?? Thanks for the help

I think that yogurt and onion soup mix idea is GENIUS. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App There are so many dried soup/dressing mixes you can use. I particularly liked the spinach dip one.

I was banded Monday, this is day 4 post op. Tuesday was the worst for pain and I had to travel 3 hours. But I got through it, Tuesday night I spent half the night walking, patting my belly to get the burps out. The was the beginning of getting better. But now, I am feeling like I have an intestinal virus. I've run to the bathroom 3 times in the last hour. I was on clear liquids until Wednesday, and very slowly added a yogurt (took a whole hour to eat that) the next day a muscel milk (couldn't finsh that). Today a protein shake. Has this happened to anybody else?

I was just banded on August 1st. I have the same thing gurgling not much of an appetite.. but one other thing I do notice is that when I tried Jello and yogurt it hurt as soon as it hit my stomach.. the yogurt more than the jello... is that normal too? The pain I feel is more int he center by my heart it feels bruised and as though it's tight hard to breathe from a mass being in there.. is that the same pain you are experiencing?

I've been hiding...now I'm back needing support
GreatlyBlessed replied to MamaJava's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi MamaJava, I haven't been banded very long (2 months) so I know I can't give you more helpful advise than someone who has been banded longer. I just want to say I think you should relax. Sit down and think about what you are eating. Be honest with yourself and keep a journal of everything you eat and record your exercise. If you make sure your calories, sugar, and carbs are low I don't see how you can't lose. I know you say you are not eating breads and Pasta but carbs are in a lot of other things as well and in high numbers. I keep my food and exercise journal on my computer. Anytime I pick something up to eat I go straight to my computer and type it in along with the calories, fat, carbs, sugar, and Protein it provides. If you just have to have ice cream try low fat yogurt. I eat the low fat yogurt or no sugar added ice cream but I only eat it maybe two to three times a month. I don't eat it everyday. You could also try sugar free/fat free pudding made with 1/2% milk. I love that, I sometimes mix bananas in it. Other than that just make sure you are doing everything you possibly can to lose the weight. I know I want to lose this weight so bad and I will not sabotage my success by eating things I know I shouldn't eat. -
Did your nutritionist give you a list of foods for this stage? My guideline for mushies was that they should be the consistency of babyfood. Your stomach shouldn't have to do much churning for digestion, and mushies are just the next step in working your way back to softer then more solid foods. Mushies should be things like mashed potatos, yogurt, oatmeal, refried beans. I think the toast was too much too soon, heck scrambled eggs and toast is a regular breakfast, lol. I'm sure you didn't do any damage, but anytime you PB you need to have liquids for the next meal or two.....so take it easy today!

is this typical? NO restriction at all
n2bater72 replied to kplant's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was not even hungary for the first few days ( I was banded 12-18-08) Now a little past 2 weeks out the swelling has gone down in the stomach and I get a little hungary. I have not found anything I can not eat yet, but if I eat to fast I get a great deal of pressure in my upper stomach area...so I guess the band is there. I would not belive it if was not for the pressure. I have lost around 12 pounds my first 2 weeks. I now mainly eat the chicken in a can mixed with low fat mayo and/or mustard, all kinds of soups ( it is nice to get full on soup now), Yogurts and sugar free pudding and jello. also cooked brocolli. I have had some trouble with jello though. I feel uncomfortable after i eat itsometimes
