I had surgery 11-4 and had an apt with my dr this past Monday. He advised a loss of 1-2lbs per week is acceptable. We all loose at various rates. I know my own loss has slowed down because I'm not getting enough intake. This could be part of the issue for you as well. Are you getting your liquids and proteins in during the day? Increased physical activity of any kind helps. Even if you are simply doing chair exercises. Don't rush things and follow Drs instructions.

How often do you get fills?
dhawkins replied to zeniada's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I was banded on oct 19th. I have not gotten my first fill yet. But I know my Dr. told me that whenever I get hungry and stop loosing weight to come in right away. As far as your menu I think you should cut down on your carbs and add more protein. Especially in the morning. Try a boiled egg and fat free yogurt to start you off. For the next week just try no carbs and that should jump start your loss again. I have stuck to this as well as excercise and have lost almost 30pounds in 4 weeks. Try also keeping a food journal. That really helps me stay on track. I am consious of everything that goes in my mouth. If it has no nutrional value I dont eat it. oh yeah wendys chili has lots of protein so try that for lunch. I hope this helps. Good luck on your journey. -
Where To Enter Tickerfactory Url?
clohse commented on Michelle1976's blog entry in Michelle1976's Blog
I haven't messed with it in a while but I think you click the little arrow up at the top right of the screen (right after your username) and click on Settings. Once there you should see the various options listed on the left side of the screen. Paste the url into the Signature box and see if that does the trick. -
Day 4 Post Op And Just Have No Energy
AnnaRabbit replied to acoleman380's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, congratulations. One day at a time. Lots of liquids -sip constantly, and liquid protein - nasty as it tastes - my surgeon has me on all clear.was banded 8th also, sleep whenever you feel like sleeping. Isn't this all about taking best care of ourselves? Do you have to go back to work tomorrow - for sure? Thoughts are with you. I feel better the more I drink. Good luck! -
My first day of the liquid diet we have a work function at a Mexican food place. And I drove 2 others or I would have just gone home & skipped the dinner. It smells so good! But I am sitting here being good & drinking my water. 1 more protein shake to go when I get home. :-/

Please Share Post-Op Diet
Lisa H. replied to brendaliz_r's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I like muscle milk, and Atkins . I did soup, and added protein to them all. Just make sure to dissolve the protein first and do not add while it's hot. I made sugar free cooked pudding, and it's wonderful!! You cannot taste the protein. I used Unjury. I also got protein water at bariatric eating.. It's not bad. My staple is instant real potato with boullion or gravy. You can thin it out and it satisfied my need for something savory. -
Just remember every doctor and NUT has their own recommendations. I love my salads and they digest perfectly for me. I add my protein to it. I'm 10 weeks out. My guy is perfectly happy with my balance. No one thing seems the same for everyone - talk to your medical team ❤️

3 weeks and first fill now what to eat
Maddysgram replied to Hersheyskiss21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you've been cleared to eat anything, I just tried whatever I wanted and found out I can still eat anything, with a small enough bite and chew like crazy. I've never tried bread without toasting it b/c so many say they have trouble. I eat a lot of chicken, steam shrimp with sauce, steak, hamburger patties, Just made Zucchini Boats (recipe under food & nutrient) really good. Pretty much any veggies, poached eggs, Weight control oatmeal has 11gm protein a friend told me to add 1 egg white and get another 9 gr., That's 20gr for 1 bowl of oatmeal and very filling, most the time I can't eat but half. I think it's all about trial and error! Good Luck! -
5 weeks out and can't get much down...
Becca replied to faithstar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some people have more swelling than others. It may just take you more time to heal. I would try to get in your protein and focus on fluids. Those are the two most important things at first. Talk to your doctor, too to be safe. Good luck! It will get better! -

I'm Hungry, or something like it.
dylanmiles23 commented on Gerhowzel's blog entry in Gerhowzel's Blog
Congrats! on your surgery. I don't remember eating some of the foods you are eating so soon. I was told no grapes because you can't digest the skin or the membrane from the oranges. Did you get a list of foods? I find that protein shakes made with ice are very filling. Have you tried any? I still have them for breakfast and stay full 3-5 hours. Sugar free Popsicles and sugar free fudge type are good. Maybe try calling your hospital and they can help. Good luck! -
Dear 3 Week Stall.... I am not amused!
Lookinupin2010 replied to a.walker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Put the scale away. Try on some clothes that you haven't worn in awhile, or better yet...try on some of those 'new' clothes that still have the tags on that you were going to lose weight and fit into (pre-surgery days). This 3-week thing is only the beginning of more stalls. You KNOW the weight will come off....how can it not !! But you stressing with that scale will just add stress, and we all know what stress hormones can do to any weight loss effort. Just focus on learning how to deal with food issues, chewing slowly, getting in enough Protein, taking Biotin for the future hair loss. It gets better....and MOST IMPORTANTLY..don't compare yourself with your husbands weight loss...or anyone else's for that matter. God made you unique...and embrace that uniqueness. -
Dear 3 Week Stall.... I am not amused!
a.walker posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, so I have weighed the same for 10 days. I'm 4 weeks out, and of course I'm starting to worry. I log my food, I get my Protein, I am getting 500-700 calories a day, and I'm just frustrated. Tomorrow is my one month surgiversary, so I'll do measurements and maybe that will make me feel better, but right now I'm seriously down about this. I tried putting away the scale, but that gave me anxiety, so now I'm back to weighing once a day in the morning, and the same number just keeps showing up. I HATE 289!:cursing: And of course it's hard not to compare myself to my husband (who got sleeved the same day as me). He had a small stall as well, but now is back to losing 2 lbs./day the past few days. He'll soon weigh less than me at this rate! Do I just keep doing what I'm doing, or is there something I should try to break this? I'm willing to try something new, but I'm not sure what:confused: -
Got to start my pureed food stage today and thought I could just throw a hamburger pattie in my fancy dandy food processor. Added some broth and a wee bit of mashed potatoes in hopes of smoothing out the consistency, but no go. There's still a grainy texture that I can't smooth out no matter how long I puree it. Any ideas? What protein besides beans puree well?

I was banded on 10/9 and am still on full liquids but I just discovered Progresso chicken cheese Enchilada soup....OMG I love it. It is easy to digest for the full liquid stage but I can imagine it becoming a side for the mushy stage with refried Beans and cheese - or adding it to mashed potatoes would be yummy too - how about using it as a base for building a thicker stew. I love it - it is low carb and high protein!!

My surgery was not sceduled until tomorrow. My doctor called me last week and was if I could move it up to last Thursday. With my juggling with my job and responsibilities it happened. I truely believe this was GODs way of getting me through the surgery. I had spent the weekend before reading a lot of everyone's post and truth be told had almost talked myself out of surgery. I went in at 11 am to forest park medical plaza in Dallas Texas. ( The Westin of all hospitals) my husband asked me If I paid for a VIP suite. The place is amazing! I was bad I was "working " till they rolled me in and knocked my butt out. Three hours later my husband said the surgeon came out saying all went well but he had found a very large hiatal hernia. I also have Barrettes easaphugus. Btw I've had no reflux at all. Popsicles don't cause reflux a guess! Not gonna lie I was not a happy camper when I woke up the nausea really sucked. I didn't have much pain to even speak of. I swear if one more person told me to get up and walk heads were gonna roll! Walking does help move the gases. I didn't have a lot of gas pains. I was pooting by the next day ( Friday) they were kinna pushing me to go home but I was self pay and I thought no way I'm staying here. Felt safer. But I soon realized Saturday when I did get home I felt so much better. I am 51 pretty tuff most of the time. This is not the easy way out so get over any of those negative thoughts. You have to walk this walk. It's all different for everyone. Yesterday I weighed myself I was like WTF 7lbs heavier then the day I went in. I was 197. But today at 530 I'm 196 they pump you with lots and lots of fluids! Sip sipsip everything is way to sweet for me. I've got to find the right protein mix advocate vanilla and orange sugar free jello teaspoon for teaspoon water and ice. And sip not to bad. Just don't drink a lot of water before or after. It gets messy. I know Tmi! Sorry for my typos. No glasses imams I'm typing from my iPhone !four days out! Oh btw. Walk walk walk

How Many Calories At 7 Weeks?
Slenderella replied to susanfaye's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same question. I am 8 weeks out and I'm around 500-600 calories per day. My NUT said he didn't want me counting calories, fat or carbs, only protein and water. I'm down 37 lbs, and I'm pleased with that, but I still wonder if I should be monitoring anything else. -

Do you track your calories and protein? Do you weigh and measure your food? Are you resorting to softer foods because you have to chew more solid food too much? when I stall in weight loss, if I track calories for a few days, the problems begin to expose themselves and the answer for why I didn;t lose is usually evident. however sometimes there are just plateaus ( a rest your body needs form continued weight loss) that happen.

How to tell my PCP after the fact
stcyt replied to Mommydog14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was really scared to tell my PCP... I think it was just because I was so scared about the surgery I didn't think I could handle any negativity. I also figured there would be some kind of bias or stereotyping regarding mexico. finally I remembered that I'm a grown up and I choose who my doctor is. If I was unhappy with her response I could always get another doctor. I told her the week before and she was great. she said she had several patients that had done the same thing and she felt it was a great option. She's seen me for a few little things since.... some acid problems... checked my incisions etc... She'll do my 3 month labs. At the end of the day we all need a doctor who is supportive and helpful... if yours isn't I would consider getting a new one. -
3 Weeks Later.. My Thoughts
fell4falls replied to mouse trap's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I, too, am at my third week, and your experience sounds a lot like mine. I had no problems after surgery, or any since. I have no problems with liquids or proteins, either. I am a little discouraged today, because this morning the scale was up 2 lbs from my last weigh in. However, I know that I am dangerously close to that time of the month, so I am hoping that the 2 lbs is simply water retention. -
Hi to all., Here is my 3 week breakdown. but first just a recap .. I started this journey July 2011 started my 3 month Insurance qualifications in August at a weight of 318lbs after the 3 months i was hovering around 310lbs .. My surgery- My Doc. is so personable and very informative ., Dr. Schrope ( Columbia NY / Valley hospital NJ) is amazing, caring and funny.. Thanks you For giving me my life back.. I was amazed at how well i did immediately after surgery., I walked around 15 min every couple hours ., didnt really use hospital pain meds that often. Dont get me wrong i did felt GAS and some stomach pains something like you feel after doing several hundred situps..But The gas pains did hit me hard at times..I was sent home the day after surgery and manage well with gas/ pain medicine.. It all seems so long ago tho because i havent had any real complications., never vomited, never had any redness around the scars., liquids were no problem / Protein either., I advanced to mooshie food fairly quickly and easily., I am introducing more solid foods and feel pretty good., I will also start cardio this weeks. I am down to 282lbs as of yesterday @ 3 weeks... any questions or comments .. just ask away... I wish you all a great journey....
