I managed to get some decent sleep last night. I can't say the same for Jess who just moved to the bed to get an extra hour before work. Me with 3 pillows under my upper half, one behind me supporting my lower back and one between my knees doesn't leave much room for him. Normally sleeping on the couch wouldn't bother me, but not in this condition. I got about 5 hours of sleep before waking up. I got up and I was in a lot of pain. So I took my pain meds while pacing the apartment, then went back to sleep for another 3, this time with a cold compress on my head, and now I'm up. They gave me this anti heart burn pill to take. Idk if I should take it yet or not since I'm still on liquids and not eating meals yet. It is a small pill but the thought of taking it scares me a little. What if it hurts. Ok, I took it. Here's hoping for the best. Now I wait half a hour, then I'm going to have some Jello. I need to shower. I can smell myself. I haven't showered since monday morning. Ok. So I just brushed my teeth. And my face is clean now. I'm a little worried about the body, but now that I have those two knocked out, I feel a little more confident about washing myself without getting too much water on my front. It's been about an hour since I started this entry, for reference. I'm having a Jello cup for "breakfast." Jello cups are never ending. Yesterday I had one and it felt like I was eating it forever and it was still there. I'm going to attempt to shower now. I've got my outfit picked out. Wish me luck. It's almost 2 hours from the start of this entry and I am now clean. 3.25 hrs later I am dressed, medicated, and wondering when I should take the carafate. Maybe I should start posting times. I started this entry around 8:30 this morning. It's 10:58 now. I called kaiser about the carafate. And I asked a question about it on the board for my support group. It says to take it a hour before eating or 2 - 3 hours after eating. But since I'm not technically eating, I'm not sure how to take it. I finally finished a jello cup. At noon I'll take carafate. And then at 12:45ish it will be time to medicate again. It's 2:10. I took the carafate. Took a nap. Got up, medicated. I'm having Swanson's beef broth, which is nommin, and I paid most of the bills. The guys for the flies came even though Jess called the front office and told them not to. And they're supposed to warn me if they're going to paint again. I can't remember if I wrote about it yesterday or not, I woke up from a nap around 4pm and my apartment smelled really bad like chemicals. Like paint thinner or something. It freaked me out. I was crying. I called Jess 3/4 times, no answer. I texted his mom She called me and and asked if I wanted them to come get me, I said yes. So I sat out on my patio till they came and got me. Turns out they were painting the apartment behind ours and the paint fumes were coming in from the ac. I was freaking out because I didn't know what the smell was and I didn't know if it was going to hurt me or not in my fragile just got home from surgery condition. And there was stupid in the pool, just like there is today. So that added to my freaking out. I'm going to try taking a B-12. While in the hospital I couldn't imagine taking my vitamins when I got home. I told my surgeon and he said that I could wait a week or two if I wanted. That I wouldn't get any vitamin deficiencies. I started my period at the hospital. My face is all broken out. I wish I had something to put on it. You'd think I would with all the beauty junk I have, but no. My skin is usually the least of my worries. I'm almost out of my face wash, so idk if we're gonna go to the mall tonight and get more or order it online or what. The benefit of going at getting it is that I can get a sample of stuff for my breakouts. I just texted Jess' mom and she happens to be going on base soon so she's going to check the price of Purity for me. My coworker buys hers on base, so I wonder how much cheaper it is. 3:37p It feels like this gas will be the death of me. It's like I have to encourage it to come out. Coax it. I've been trying bending down on all fours on the bed trying to get it out that way. Leaning over the couch a little seems to help too. Burping really hurts, so I'm trying to fart. When I feel like I've swallowed air I pat my chest to see if it'll come up. Usually doesn't, but it helps with the pain. 4p Now we has purity. It was 6 bucks cheaper on base. I kinda want to turn the ac on but I'm scared because the office smells a little to me. Could be my washcloth from earlier. but I don't want to chance it. My itchiness is getting closer and closer to my incisions. I wish one more of them had a bandage over it because it's so freaky looking. I want to take pictures of them. 4:23 I just took macro pictures of my stomach. The one incision that freaks me out is so gross looking! I couldn't get any good shots of the bruising on my arms from the blood thinner injections. I don't have the sensation to pee like I did in the hospital. So I've been gong every so often. I probably just have less liquids in me. 8:06p I took carafate one more time. I've been standing and pacing the apartment most of the day. I'm sitting now (but probably won't be for long) and the gas bubbles are back. Well, it's 8:30p and I going to go to bed. I'll probably wake up a few times in the night. Here's hoping it's progressively better.

Rest in peace to my boobies. I'll miss them dearly.
AvaFern replied to truberry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had a breast lift and implants and before surgery I felt like a bad person for chopping up my perfectly good boobies simply because I wanted them to be higher and fuller. After weight loss they were like udders..hanging tube socks of breasts and I felt very non-sexy. Don't laugh, I actually gave each one of them a little talking to before surgery about how I love them and how I was sorry about what I was going to put them through. A lift involves basically cutting off the nipples temporarily and I think of all of the people who have had to have their breasts removed or significantly altered for health reasons and here I was doing it out of pure vanity. So, I did have to get over feeling like Shallow Sally, but I've largely moved on from that. It's been three weeks since surgery and I am very happy. I have always had large breasts, except they have never been this full, and round, and perky. I can wear all those cute little sports bras with the tiny little straps and yesterday I went out to dinner for the first time since I was 10 not wearing a bra. I felt scandalous! Of course no one noticed because they now look exactly like they did before when I was wearing a bra, but it was still something that was new for me. So, yes, I missed my old girls, but I am very much a fan of the new ones. -
Well, I got home from hospital a few hours ago and while I feel pretty good now I was a total mess last night. Pain, Migrain, vomiting the works. My tummy is tender and quite swollen. I'm glad it's over. I'm on fluids for 2 weeks, then I see Dr Bowden and then puree for two weeks.

I would be comfortable to travel abroad after 6 weeks. I'd be comfortable to LIVE abroad after about 6 months. Anytime I'd travel or live abroad, I'd make sure I was with someone trained to take out my fill if I needed it in an emergency and make sure I traveled with the correct needle, for emergency use only. This would be a great question to discuss at your surgical consult too! Good luck.

It's so hard not to compare ourselves to others, but this is our own individual journey. I'm 7 weeks out today and down 26 pounds. The day of surgery I was 205. I tell myself this is way more than I could have lost on my own. It will come off, just keep following the plan!!

Just experienced my first horrible night. I am 10 weeks out. I ate one slice of rare beef, potatoes and a gravy sauce with pineapple and garlic in it. I started having some sharp cramping pains about 10 minutes later. I managed to rest and drive home. Later, I thought I was not going to make it through the night. Severe stabbing pain for 5-6 hours that came and went initially and then by 11pm to 2am became pretty intense. Vomiting was an issue. Can anyone tell me if they have experienced a similar situation? Is this because I ate such rich food? Is this a gallbladder issue? I am feeling pretty fragile today, can't really eat much just living on liquid diet today. I feel like I was beat up. Looking for some help explaining this. Thanks!

Pain beside my belly button
Museum-Mama replied to momofjal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOOOOAAAHH....I am almost three weeks out, and I have the same thing! It started today, and I was afraid it had to do with the full liquids I have been adding into my diet. I am curious to know what others say. -
Surgery is the 25th so my pre-op starts the 15th. I'm a HUGE soda drinker!!! This week I'll switch to diet soda and taper down each day until Sat. When pre-op starts. I'm hoping I can do this. My surgeon is one of the ones who doesn't allow soda at all after surgery. Crystal light is a good idea, or maybe iced tea. Good luck!! I KNOW we all can do this!!

I start my 2-week preop diet on March 19. I am going to follow your post to see if anyone has any really good suggestions. The caffeine thing has me worried.

Hard time deciding on band or sleeve.
2muchfun replied to Owl1212's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Overall, I think most studies show there's a 5-15% re-surgical rate with the band. That includes port revisions, leaky tubes, erosions, dilations etc. It is a little higher than the other three WLS techniques. Here's a video that makes a lot of sense by a well known bariatrics surgeon. How he helps his patients decide. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VmvWFu79Ik#t=99 -
2nd week post op foods
KateP replied to wesleyfamily's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The problem is that different doctors have different protocols. Some of us may still be on liquids at two weeks, some on purées, some on soft foods, even a few in normal foods. -

I had my first adjustment March 28th with 3cc's :clap2: It went very well. I think it's just an awesome thing to have done. It's been six weeks since I was banded.

Call you doctors office in the morning and tell them you are having a problem getting this refilled--and that without your med you are crashing badly. Don't just rely on the pharmacy--be proactive and help them help you. More than support, you need to get your meds. You can't go cold turkey on this stuff without crashing hard. It's crucial to plan ahead better in the future so you don't run out again. Normally you can pick up a refill about a week before you're out of meds. Check with the pharmacy and plan to pick them up at least several days before you're out. Take good care of yourself!

My energy started to return after about 2 months post op. Adding calories and more real foods is what helped a ton. When I was just eating 400 calories max and relying so heavily on Protein drinks, I was really tired. I am only 3 months post op and workout intensely at least 4 times a week. My energy is through the roof!

If I follow the liver shrinking diet...
Malaika replied to blueskidoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the post-op diet for 3 weeks -- my liver looked GREAT! Do whatever you can do, it's not going to hurt anything as long as you do the pre-op diet. -
Any one care to share their success story after a SLOW start?
Kristin Hernandez posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had VSG surgery on February 5. It has been 9 weeks, and I have lost 20 lbs. It seems so slow. I know, I shouldn't compare. I know, I should be patient. I know, I should stay off the scale. BUT... Does anyone else who was a slow loser at first have a success story to share? I can't shake the feeling that I will be the ONE person that doesn't lose significant weight. Just a little reassurance will help set my mind at ease (Yes, most days I meet my Water and Protein goals. No issues with eating or drinking what I am supposed to, and I avoid carbs/sugar/etc. Thanks Kristin -
Any one care to share their success story after a SLOW start?
kempermorris replied to Kristin Hernandez's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
15 months Post Op. Lost a total of 175 lbs. No longer Diabetic. No more insulin shots. No more Neuropathy in my feet. No more Sleep Apnea. No more High Blood Pressure & Cholesterol. I was on 12 different Prescriptions. Not on any now. Have 50 more pounds to lose. Hope to get there by end of August. Starting weight 410. want to get down to 190. Im now addicted to exercise. Work out at the gym 3 days a week. I walk 3-4 miles 4 days a week. I eat clean. Lean meats & grilled vegetables. I consume 1200 calories/day. 3 small meals with 2 no sugar snacks. Feel better than I have in 25 years & I'm 61. Good Luck To You. You can do this -
I was on puréed for 4 weeks. You are still healing. Peanut butter did the trick for me when I was hungry. Now that I can eat everything but rice and pasta I don't need the peanut butter. Just try to stick to puréed unless your dr tells you otherwise. I make lots of mistakes and get back on track. Good luck

Weight loss after gastric sleeve
Travelher replied to Jodygirl1982's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Did I read this correctly that you've lost 35lbs in just over a month and you are worried you are not losing enough???!!! Please reset your expectations or you'll be disappointed a lot. You will stall, you will gain a few pounds along your weight loss journey. It is just how it works. Do all the right things and then don't worry about it. that is extraordinarily fast weight loss and not remotely achievable for most people. Give yourself a pat on the back and enjoy the journey. -
Well 17 days into 3 week pre-op I am down 26 pounds. Surgery Tuesday, I met with put me to sleep Dr. today and weighed in. It feels so good. I even had one bad day and still did well. For all that struggle with pre-op diet, you can do it!
