Scheduled Feb. 5th!!! More Terrified about Pre-Op Liq. diet :(
MandaMom23 replied to Kped's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I start my 2 week pre op diet tomorrow. While I'm a bit nervous, I'm also excited. I'm trying to look at is as this is truly the beginning of my new journey in life and my road to a new me. I keep telling myself if I can't handle just a few weeks of liquids and strict diet, how can I expect to make the necessary changes to keep myself healthy for a lifetime?! We can and will do this!! Best part is we're all in this together! -
Excited, Nervous, Thinking too Much!
Newme4ever replied to petra1124's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Petra 1124, you took the words right out of my mouth. I felt the same way this past week. I'm scheduled for the 24 th and all fear and concerns have played over and over through my mind a million times over . I decided that I was not going to tell anyone except for my husband and my children. I don't want to hear anyone's negativity . This is not the easy way out like I've heard when I expressed to a friend that I was interested in doing this. And guess what even if it is so be it, this is for our health and well being,I want to enjoy my children and do what I love to do with them, just like you, I am nervous that we can't eat the things that we used to but I keep telling myself that is what got me here in the first place. I'm sure in time we can eat what we want in super small portions ( works for me) . Once we start losing weight everything will fall into place . We will do great ! Good luck and don't let anyone discourage you. We are finally doing something for ourselves. ( at least for me everyone else came first and I put myself on the back burner , not any more) ttys -
So I know I probably sound like a big whiner, but I am feeling really frustrated at the moment! A week and a half ago I got the call that I was approved (this was a Friday). I was so excited! On Monday I went to my PCP to pick-up the original referral (I have *** insurance) and noticed that the referral was just for the consult appt! Talk about the wind getting knocked out of my sails! Then there was some run-around with the surgeon's office and my PCP regarding the referral. The bariatric program that I am using normally has you see the surgeon, bariatician, nutritionist and psychologist all in the 1st appt. so since my referral was just for the surgeon my insurance required a letter from the surgeon's office stating how exactly their program works. OK fine. I called yesterday to verify and I have a referral for the surgeon and an EGD to be done. I guess I have to complete all of the "clearance tests" and then if the surgeon recommends that I'm a candidate for surgery then my insurance will approve me for the surgery and refer me to see the other specialists. I know this is all formalities, but I'm frustrated because I am afraid I could be denied. Thinking I was approved already was such a great feeling and now I feel like I am in limbo! I feel very fortunate that my insurance covers WLS and I will jump through whatever "hoop" they tell me to, but it just stinks when you're so excited and then you feel discouraged! I am just so scared that something will go wrong and I won't be able to have the surgery. Financially I can't afford to go to Mexico or be a self-pay.

I am 5 weeks post op and I am a long time GS fan!! I drink them regularly and would just just be concerned about them during a clear liquid phase. -

Congrats !!! They changed my surgery date a week sooner the day they got my approval letter. My stomach started flipping and knotting with nerves and excitement up until they put me under!! Kinda of funny, as if my stomach was talking to me. Now there's not enough stomach to feel any excitement!!! Anyways was the easiest surgery I every had. Sore yes, diet YUCK, days off awesome, but all worth it. Good luck!!! -

melidawn replied to melidawn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's good to hear. I am a vegetarian and was just concerned about protein but I think I will do great I was just wondering if anyone had any great suggestions. They put me on the Atkins diet for 2 weeks preop and it was really hard for me being a vegetarian but I learned How to really watch carbs which will definitely help in the future -

Im nervous too. I just want to wake up and it already be over. A friend of mine had it done two weeks ago, and he said he felt some gas pain but felt fine 3 days out. He returned to work within 2 weeks and has no pain at all. Hope this helps some. Good luck. -

crickee replied to crickee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am hoping the week of November 3rd, or before Thanksgiving, I should find out tomorrow. All I have left to do is surgeon visit and hospital bloodwork. It took my insurance a little over a week and I was on pins and needles even though I knew they had everything they needed, I was afraid they would find a reason to deny. Good luck and hang in there! -
So, my doctor, Dr Snow in Hurst, Tx, put me on a 5 day diet before my surgery on Friday. Today is day 3 and I have the WORST headache! I can't get rid of it. . . I even tried a Starbucks singles packet (with a scoop of vanilla Unjury protein powder, of course) this morning! My pre-op instructions say to avoid aspirin or anything that will thin my blood this week! Any suggestions? I'm dying here. . .all I want to do is close my curtains and lay in my bed ALL DAY; but I have things to get in order (family meals, last minute house work, etc.) before the big day!

Dont give up! During these 2 months, you can learn how to take care of yourself and love yourself for who you are. The surgery is important so that we can be healthy. p.s. 8 weeks isnt that long. -
Last friday i will ever be bandless
finallytime replied to finallytime's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ugh. In a weird way I wish my pre op had no solids at all. Dr allows one solid meal a day. And for 5 days I have been perfect! Today, not so much. I mean a week ago this would have been a great day, but.... I had two spoons of my toddlers Mac and Cheese that he didn't finish and two Dots when we were making a gingerbread house... So frustrated with myself. I logged it all and have to remember that a week ago it would have eaten three boxes of Dots, all of his Mac and cheese and a dozen other bad things in just one day. Hoping this is the only set back I have!!! -
Have Anyone Taken Any Control Your Appetite Pills Will Doing The Liquid Diet?
sars replied to iris26's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would not do that. When is your surgery? The phentermine could affect your heart & EKG results. Sounds like your sx is just a few weeks away, if you are fighting hunger cravings, call the Nut & see what they suggest. Mine basically said we could have as much Protein and veggies as we want. -

Post op with kids
thistxgrlrocks replied to rocknrollmama1980's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My baby was 10 months old when I had surgery. My husband works out of town and is only home on the weekends. I was very lucky, my sister is a teacher and was out for the summer. She kept the baby for a week then I had a teenage niece come stay with me for 4 weeks. I wasn't suppose to lift for 8 weeks. But 5 was all I got I just made sure to use my abdominal binder for extra support and to remind me to be careful. It all worked out ok. Just be careful and use proper body mechanics. -
Sleeved 5/3/18. Heartburn was my biggest problem after surgery. It really scared me. My gastroenterologist told me to take two PPI's a day, the second 30 minutes before dinner. He also told me Gaviscon works well with sleevers. He's right. The Gaviscon got me through the first couple of days while taking two Pantoprazole (Protonix) a day. I took two a day for about a month, maybe 5 weeks. Still taking one a day to be on the safe side. This solved my problem. I hope this helps!

Gain 2 pounds and surgery on 12-12-12
mokee replied to Breeg89's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was like a yo-yo. Finally the last month the doctor said if I did not lose 4 lbs in the next month he would not operate. Well, then I lost 6. Now I am post-op 2 weeks and enjoying a 27 lbs weight loss so far. I had food funeral after food funeral. Everything that I saw that I liked I ate. I don't regret it now. I will be able to eat my favorite things again 1 day in moderation. Everyone does the nutritional part in their own way. Whatever is comfortable for you. Best of luck. -
Gain 2 pounds and surgery on 12-12-12
tzepeda replied to Breeg89's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 10 lbs first week of Pre op now have been gaining .2-.4 lbs everyday for four days. Not cheating at all. Sometimes our bodies just don't do what we want them to do. Those little gains remind me of years and years of struggles dieting and makes me want my surgery Friday even more. -
