  1. I am also 60 and built almost like you are. I am so interested in hearing how things go for you. I live in Pensacola and have my initial consult in 3 days. I know from speaking with my insurance and Dr. Lord's office that my BMI is 35 and will be approved because of my arthritus and high blood pressure as co-morbidities. Even though I only need to lose 60 lbs, I have never been able to lose any. Please update me as you are able. May God bless you in surgery and recovery. I hope your life improves tremendously and that your best years begin now!

  2. During my pre op diet, I would drink 3-4 shakes and then I was allowed a 5 ounce piece of meat/protein plus 2 cups of veggies.

  3. Hello! Surgey went well. I'm 1 week post-op now and feel alot better. Still having a little bathroom issues  and some port pain :crying: but I guess thats normal. I can't wait till I'm 100% better so I can get out there and start excercising, I walk now but somewhat of a slow paced walk. It gets old. However I have lost 22 lbs so far!!!

Congrats on getting approved!! I bet your real excited huh. Where are you getting it done?

  4. Hey girl! I am doing pretty good. I just ran my first 3K last weekend and I think I am going to work for a 5K in September. I am running about 2 miles a day about 5 times a week or so and I hit the gym about 3-4 times a week when I'm not traveling with my job. I feel pretty good. I am still about 20 lbs up from my lowest, but I am in pretty good shape. Trying to watch my caloric intake to lose slowly instead of keeping my carbs super low. I don't think I will ever be happy until I have PS to take the extra skin off (bad apron in front IMHO) and perk the girls up. The TT is a big priority but with other things going on I just can't afford it right now. Hopefully in a year or two. I am so glad to hear things are going so well for you. Funny how the first 9 months I lived on the boards but we have all kind of found our way back into a life where the band is a part of normal living and not something to take up every last waking thought.

  5. Hi Lorraine,

Just saying hello. Hope all is going well. Good luck on week 3.

  6. It is rare that I eat bread, not that it gets stuck..it just fills me up too fast and I can't get my protein in.

Exercise: I walk and exercise in my pool daily. This helps tremendously. I know when it rains for days I can really feel it.

For my meals..As I said I eat everything but I eat very small portions..never more than a cup but usually about 3/4 of a cup per meal. The only thing I really splurge on is the popsicles..probably 4-5 a day. I have a 3 year old and we eat them all afternoon/evening.

If I have a cravining I found that if I satisfy the craving instead of trying everying to avoid it I realized that I only wanted maybe 2 bites of the craving and I was satisified. If I tried to avoid it I ate everything in the house and still ended up eating the craving..just think of all the wasted calories!

Another thing when I eat is that I eat until I am satisified not until I am full.

I hope this has helped!! Take care!

  7. OK...the TT in 2007...It was easily the hardest in terms of recovery, because the abdominal muscles are involved. I had a lower body lift last summer, and that one is supposed to be the roughest, but it wasn't, in my opinion. The summer in between (2008) I had a breast lift. With all of these surgeries was miscellaneous liposuction, except with my TT when he also did a scar revision for something unrelated to my weight loss. A few weeks ago I had an arm lift (shorter scar) and a revision to the medial thigh lift from last year. I'm still pretty swollen from that, and the arm lift is not a pleasant surgery for recovery. The scars are ugly right now and my arms look thinner but they are nowhere near their end result. Same with the thighs. I go through this every time...I have a post from the past on the Dr. Schulman thread on this site where you can see my anxiety!! More to come...

  8. Thanks for being concerned about me. Yes, I went back to work and this week alone I have worked 40 hours of overtime so I've been very busy. I hope you are doing well.

  9. yeah- I definitely notice that after I workout I'm tighter-- same sensation as in the mornings. Last night I went to the gym, and noticed it right away.

I will look into the toning classes. They offer a "bootcamp" thing here, but I'm not sure what it consists of. I do think I need to try something new, because at times my weight loss is stalling. I added weight machines after my cardio, and that seemed to help, but I still think I need to shake it up a bit.

  10. Hi there Kansans!

I live in SE Kansas and had my first fill in Overland Park today.

    All went well.

I will be back up there in 4 weeks. It is a 3hr drive for me but worth every minute!

  11. My secret is I eat alot of chicken and fish. I measure everything. I'm not a fanatic in exercise but I try to walk at least 4-5 times a week. Anywhere from 3-5 miles. I use my Wii Fit at home. And I made up my mind that I am going to do this. I think the biggest secret is not to give into head hunger. Plus I reward myself once and awhile. This isn't a diet, it's a lifestyle change. Diets have always failed me. But once I started losing the weight and seeing the great results, it was just a matter of keeping myself going. And it helps to have good support.

  12. Hi everyone! I am doing well! I have minimal pain! Thank goodness! I have virtually no gas pains just some pain and soreness where the port is. I haven't slept well because it is difficult to sleep on my side from the pain but I doze. Overall this is a walk in the park compared to my 3 previous c-sections! I have been moving around as much as possible. I have been sipping my water and had only 1 protein shake today. I am NOT hungry at all. I am unsure if I am supposed to eat (drink) if I am not hungry. I know my body needs the calories to help heal but just a little confused about that. Any ideas?

  13. One day isnt that bad, I read your story of why you did it though and that was really nice of you! I get banded next monday.. when I was picking my date I could have done it today but I kinda freaked out and chose a week later. LOL i think now, wow it could have been done already! BUt thats ok... im hoping this week flies by, im trying to keep super busy :-) Make sure you let me know how surgery went , just dont scare me!

  14. The 27 pounds is from when I started my 3 month diet! I have lost 11 pounds in 1 week tho! I wish I didnt gain 6 pounds during my last week of "last meal syndrome" I would be down 6 more pounds! lol Your doing great!

  15. sorry I can,t reply to your e-mail I have tried 3 times now and I am not sure if you have recieved them or not

  16. Sounds like your on your way to being back on track. I had an MRI a week before my surgery for a pinched nerve still waiting on results, hopefully next week. I'm really bored with the post op selections so I just don't eat or drink, I am ready for some variety and looking forward to working out too.

  17. I go see the doctor Monday and I do believe then I hope when he schedules me for two more weeks out that is when I will get my first fill! Have you been eating soft foods then? I was suppose to be on full liquids until monday then I would graduate to soft foods, but I was so starving that I couldnt wait any longer I had to eat and so thats what I have been doing, but truely watching my portions. I eat have of what is normal or actually it is probably normal but not to what I use to eat. so far I haven't had problems with anything going down my band yet, but then again I think they try to get you mentally prepared for the band so thats why they have a post opt diet. I just started it a 5 days early from the full liquid to soft foods part.

  18. Hey Coco! How have you been? Have you started your pre-op yet? I don't get my banding till next friday...lol. I WISH it was tomorrow so I can get it over with. I'm starving on this pre op diet. So one week to go!!! :-)

  19. I have a weird feeling with my band too but I usually get it at night time or just when I first get up. I can go all day feeling pretty good but as soon as it gets late I get pains on the left side of my stomache about an inch to the left and up from my belly button. I keep thinking that its the port that is just floating forward or something (lol), but not sure what it is exactly, but I'm sure its normal. I go to the doctor Monday and then will hopefully schedule out in two weeks a fill. Ive been so hungry that I've started to eat some food which I'm ok with, but also don't want to be too tempted on eating bad things. I've lost 22 pounds total so far!

  20. I will be posting more this summer on a blog and on here, this is the greatest encouragement I have found! After surgery walk, walk, walk, do as your Dr.'s instruct and you will do fine, totally serious it seems like one day I was huge and then I wasn't, i did not loose any weight for 4 months and still went down 3 pants sizes, the only exercise I do is walk 30-45 min. a day 4-5 times a week, high protien diet at least 75 grams prot. a day.

  21. hi pam, everyone is different and what works for me might not work for you. As a nurse i see where u coming from with being tired after work all i want to do is take a bath and go to bed. I work 12 hrs shifts so when i work i do not work out but the days that im off i hit the gym. Do you have a gym memebership? the band alone is not going to workout if u dont excersice believe me i been there! start by walking 30 min a day and do light wts with time u can increase your intensity and time. right now im doing a lot of cardio and wts to tone up. Drink a lot of water i drink 3 to 4 32 oz bottles a day and dont forget ur protein and vitamins. it takes a lot of patience to get there but YOU CAN DO IT!!!! my main motivation are my kids! but when u can wear things that u were not able to before it feels sooo good! also looking at other people who had success with the band is a motivation

  22. shibalover I dont think I over did anything. I work out a few times a week and get my heart pumping for an hour at a time and before I had restriction I dieted and watched my calories but now I have restriction and am eating whatever I make my family but I just cant eat very much of it LOL. Ive come to relize I want to do this for life not like a diet. I dont get all my protein in most days but I try and I eat everything but the band helps with the amount. The only tip I have thats a for sure thing is DONT snack because the band wont help with that. I could eat a whole bag of reese cups if I want. so I stay far far away LOL I try not to have that junk in the house. It really is an awesome tool

  23. Today is 3 days post op. I am not sure about the restriction but I know I am not having any problem staying within calorie restriction to loose weight. That is night.

  24. Man i'm telling you, it feels like there is nothing there! I can eat like before. It has been rough and i assume will get rougher for the next 2 weeks until I get a fill. As for my surgery, I still have pain around the big incision, not alot, but i still know its there. I felt for the first time a big lump in my gut just to the right of my big incision yesterday. That kinda scarred me, the nurse here at work says its probably just scarring on the muscle and should reduce over time. How goes the battle for you?

  25. Congratulations!! You'll have to let me know how you feel. How was the fill? Do you feel restriction when you eat not? Did you gian weight after eating "normal" for a few weeks, because I am still up 2 pounds!!!!
