Basically don't have any follow up with my team after 3 weeks and I'm 6 weeks out. Wondering - when could you eat crunchy salad and vegatables? -
When Could You Eat Salad and Crunchy Vegatables?
LipstickLady replied to ab123.'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I asked my NP the same thing about 6 weeks out and she asked me what I missed about salad. I told her that I loved all the yummy toppings and she told me to go to a salad bar and get just that. It was the onions and red pepper and radishes and carrots and YUM! Lettuce is just filler. I have a stricture so I couldn't do this for about three months, but it cured exactly I craved. -

I was cleared at 5 weeks for anything I wanted and could tolerate. Have not had lettuce but had several raw veggies and they went well. I don't have many since I still get full with my Protein. -

Hi I'm 37 with 5 children, and married. My main reasons for having the surgery was a health scare. I decided not to tell anyone but a couple of very close friends and my immediate family. this was due to feeling like I would be judged for my actions. The week I started the pre op diet I told staff I was starting a healthy eatting diet, which was true, I stated I was cutting down my calories which was also true. I feel that I do not have to tell anyone my business. The choice is yours who you tell, don't feel forced to tell people if you really don't want to. I've lost 28 pounds since pre op diet and my surgery on the 23/1/13. Good luck with your journey :-)

How many weeks are you post op. i will look at my diet plan and see if there is something that i can suggest. -
I am almost 3 weeks post-op. I woke up this morning with terrible vertigo. I've never had vertigo in my life. Has anyone else had this? I realize it could be totally unrelated to surgery.

Freaking Out About Leaks & Complications

I'm 2 1/2 weeks post-op, and happy as a clam. A 28-pound lighter clam. -
I am beginning my third week and just starting pureed foods. How will I know if I tolerate them or not. Will I get sick, will I have pain, I'm unsure as to what the signs of intolerance are.....

Time frame for people that have surgery out of town...
Toddy replied to Toddy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you for your responses, they do ease my mind. My daughter is traveling to Tennessee from the east coast of North Carolina because I wanted her to have the same surgeon I had with my band. She's only taking a week off work, so I was a bit concerned about her traveling that far that soon after surgery. -
I am scheduled to be sleeved July 9 in Mexico. Three weeks later I am scheduled to go on a two week vacation with my husband and kids to the Dominican republic. I considered canceling but I think it is the kind of vacation where I can sleep all day or just sit on a beach chair if I feel bad, or do more if I feel up to it, and the kids are excited about going. I'm planning to bring lots of Protein shakes. Am I crazy? What should I think about that I have not considered? Am very nervous about the surgery. I considered doing surgery after the vacation, but I'd have to put it off a few months because of work commitments. I am so ready to do this! Advice welcome.

Hi!! I was banded on July 8th..(congrats BTW) I WISH I was burping!! The gas pain sat in my chest and HURT like a 24 hour heart attack! it felt soo good to burp to release some gas! LOL But from what I have read, you will have alot of gas for a couple weeks (whether it sits or comes out) bc of the CO2 that they pump in your stomache during the surgery... I know its not lady like, but I'd rather burp all day than sit in pain :wink2: My gas started to move into the back and was so painful ..i am a baby  but it's FINALLY getting better. remember...WALK WALK WALK! It helps the gas! as far as you getting out of breath, are you walking too fast? remember we had major surgery, so take it easy... and if it doesnt get better...ALWAYS consult your doctor!! GOOD LUCK!!

36 days postop cravings!

They actually told me I should be able to eat anything 6 weeks out except raw veggies, they said it could take months. -
Hi there, I had my sleeve on November 20th. I am starting to eat sort of normally now and I have a LOT of gas. I have read and been told (I think) that the gas will stretch my stomach so now I am freaking out that my stomach is big again. I have an appetite but can only eat a small amount at a time and I am still losing 2 or 3 pounds a week. Does anyone have any information on gas and the sleeve surgery? Thank you in advance, this forum saved my sanity after the surgery!!!! Addie

Any fellow nurses(or any profession honestly) can help me out with this one... I currently work in home care, how long did you all take out of work? Ive had my gallbladder removed but due to other complications (pulmonary embolism) I was out of work for 1 month but honestly felt as though I could return to work the following week.... I know each individual is different but all input is greatly appreciated... TIA!

Did Medications Help You?
christin replied to andi0120's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take the generic form of Pepcid each day and have only had to use my anti-nausea meds once. I used pain medicine off and on the first week after surgery, but then I no longer needed it. -

I was very sore for 4 weeks. Incredibly sore, actually. It hurt to move, bend and even sit. My surgeon told me that he felt I had a pulled or "sprained" muscle. I'm 5 weeks out now, and the pain is gone...so I think he was right!

My doctor is pretty strict about eating and it is on the list to have fish. Just flake it up to the consistency of tuna fish. I am only 4 weeks out and I had it a few times. Remember to make it wet. I take yogurt and mix spices in it with a little water. I put it in a squirt bottle and leave it in the fridge overnight. You can put it on the fish for wetness and it gives it a nice taste along with the extra protein.

I started training pre-op to help with the weight loss and to get into a healthier lifestyle. Post-op, my surgeon cleared me for cardio about two weeks after surgery, then cleared me for strength training after a month. I took it very slow to compensate for the decreased calories and surgical recovery. Best of luck on your journey.

Is this dangerous to do? Will I stretch out my pouch? I just sort of force air out of my stomach after I eat or drink. It relieves so much pressure. I was banded 1 week and 3 days ago. What do you all think? Sounds gross I know but it really helps me..haha. What do you all think?:

Did anyone Joe a personal trainer to assist them
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to joei0005's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@joei0005 @@OutsideMatchInside is correct about the quality of trainers. Those who fall into the "anyone can get certified" category have taken an online course and passed an online exam. Some will be more serious than others, but they still will be limited. Their training is geared to working with the general population, not people with specific concerns. I don't see that a trainer who has worked with WLS people is any advantage if those people have no particular physical conditions. if you have a mobility issue or anything else, then special training and knowledge would matter. In that case, you might look for a physical therapist who moonlights. It would take a bunch of phone calls, but you may find someone. If you're in treatment for an issue, ask the doctor or someone else on staff if they know of a suitable trainer. As to expense, it isn't necessary to have ongoing sessions. You can have one or two to get you started with a workout routine and thereafter a session each time you're ready to step it up. You may also learn enough to be able to increase your workout level on your own. A free option is sparkpeople.com. You can browse the articles and videos until the cows come home and learn a lot. If it's applicable, they even have a three-part article with a title something like "Am I too heavy to exercise?" The answer, of course, is a resounding "NO!" There's also livestrong.com, similar in breadth to Spark, but with which I'm less familiar. -
Thanks for the tip. I am one week post op for the lap band. Felt pretty good for 3 days after surgery. Now I get the dry heaves at nite and it is really uncomfortable. This is the July 4th weekend so I am sure no one is around but i will contact my Dr. on Monday for nausea medication - great idea. Thanks.
