Surgery is Jan 9th yikes!
finally on my way replied to Canadianjewel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I am 1 week post op today. I so understand the Yikes.. I am doing very well, much better then I expected. I agree the work is just begining but how amazing to finally be on the winning side of this battle. I just joined this forum for support. I wish you all the best & update to let us know how you are doing! -
Yep right here! lol I haven't stalled for more than a week but I increased my calories and the following week I lost 4 pounds I'm only 4 months out so I didn't get many calories in then. Now I stick to about 1000.

I have had the band almost 2 years, and during the last three months (for the first time ever) when my period starts my band completely closes up! I mean for a couple of days I can barely get hot liquid down. The first two months I went in for an unfill and had immediate relief, but it was really frustrating because I was then too loose and eating too much. :/ This last episode I could tell was not quite as bad, I called my doc's office and they advised that it unfortunately does happen (why all of a sudden I wonder?) and that relaxing about it helps you get through it. Well, I did just that and it has slowly, slowly, slowly gotten better...I was so excited to get some thin mashed potatoes and a protein drink (room temp) down today. I was feeling really weak, and with three babies to keep up with (8, 4 & 2) I need my energy! Does anyone out there have suggestions, tricks or tips? Is there something I can do the week before I am supposed to start to make it not happen? I, for the most part, have been a bandster who eats lots of salad and protein and the occasional "naughty" treat...so I am hoping my stomach will heal and I'll be able to get back to the healthy eating soon. Thanks so much for any help you can offer! :confused2:

I also had my surgery Feb 12. I was reminded about the week 3 stall earlier this week. I would just continue getting in your Protein and 64 oz of Water daily. We all lose at different rates. Starting weight plays into it as well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I have primarily talked/posted with my November 07 group since we are all in the same time frames, but it is exciting to see so many close to my age having similar issues. I have done pretty well. Recently had problems and went on liquids. Just today I am going to try some real food. I am in need of a slight unfill, but my Dr. is out for a week or so. I would love to know if anyone is from East Texas.

I just gave all my winter jackets to the goodwill because they are now three times too big!! I hope it won't be a cold winter! I still don't want to buy many clothes till I'm at goal since the weight is coming off so quickly and I'm going through sizes every month.

4 weeks post op, still painful
lompocbander replied to lompocbander's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
By fifth week post-op I was finally feeling fairly good--not great, but much better. I still have no idea what was wrong or why it took so long, I may just be more sensitive than other people, or perhaps there was something else going on, but in any case I was able to begin working again productively about 5 weeks after the surgery. Now it is three months and there is no pain at all, though I can say that I do feel the band there; again, I might just be very sensitive. But if I lie on my side, I can feel the band "digging in" against my stomach, and when I am hungry I can really feel it (I know exactly where it is, can feel how it is attached, how it goes around my stomach). My doctor, who is a great surgeon but has very poor "bedside manners", didn't think there was any additional testing needed (after the upper-GI). So I didn't press it. I trust his opinion (and more importantly, his statistics.) Good luck, I hope you start to feel better soon. Let me know how you do! -
My moms on her 2 week Pre-op low fat diet. We can't find any fat free salad dressing that's low in sugar also. I found a spray dressing that's low fat (1g for 10 sprays). Is that ok to use? Also, are artichokes ok to eat? They weren't on the list. Thanks everyone!

New Here...Question on 6 month diet...
jthomason1220 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, my question is two-fold.... My husband and I started our 6 month supervised diet on January 27th. First...I have been trying to reach our insurance company's bariatric department to confirm if they just need 6 letters (Jan, Feb, March, April, May, and June) or if they will need the 7th one effective July 27th or later? Second...We had to bump our 2nd appt up to February 5th but have been on track every 4 weeks plus or minus a few days since then. Did I mess up making the appointment too close? Due to work and personal issues, there wasn't any way we could've done the appointement 4 weeks from the first one. I was told I would have a case worker assigned to my file in two weeks. I was hoping to find out from others experiences before then. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks in advance... -
The same thing happened to me, ordered the pro active and within 2 weeks cleared up ...only use it once a day instead of twice like it suggests but it works and is worth it

I had drains left in for 3 weeks after I had abscesses/fluid pockets found in my abdomen, and one worked it's way down close my pelvic cavity. The one close to my pelvic cavity quit draining, and it disappeared in about 2-3 weeks after the drain was removed. I was was on heavy antibiotics, and anti-nausea meds the entire time. Zofran was the nausea drug that worked for me. I had the same issue eating when the pockets were still in my abdomen, but once they were completely gone, I had no issues with discomfort. I'm pretty sure every patient is different when it comes to how long they hang around in there. I know the drains helped significantly. -
I'm nervous...
onelessfatgirl replied to onelessfatgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much everyone, your support means a lot!! I told my patents last night. My mom isn't really too in-the-know about cuurent wls options. She first gave me some of the "I hope you know what you are doing.... this is permanent.... I hope you understand the risks." I think, based on some of her questions, that she initially thought I'd be getting roux-en-y. She asked if I'd be on shakes the rest of my life and if I'd ever be able to sit down and eat a meal with them. She said she didn't understand why I'd be able to stick to a diet post-op but not before. I shared with her some research findings about the long term success rates of those who have over 100lbs to lose and attempt it ::eye roll:: "the natural way." She said she'd like to see me thin and happy and I interrupted her and told her this was more than what I look like; it's about my long term well being, preventing health issues, living a life with and for my family (especially my kids). I shared with her some of the things that keeps me from living fully like, last week NOT taking my 7 year old to the school skating party because my DH was out of town and my knees have been killing me and frankly I was worried that if I fell I'd seriously injure myself, embarrass my son, and be out of commission for a while. Interestingly, she didn't ask about my husband or his thoughts. Which, I totally appreciate that one of her go-to thoughts wasn't about my husbands take or influence. I think she knows me well enough to know I'm my own woman, with a strong mind and personality. I'm sure she'll talk to my sister but I anticipate my sister will be supportive as she's been banded. I invited her to ask me more questions or talk to me about her concerns. So, we'll see how it goes. My DH told me he was very proud of me for facing my parents. I don't let many people rattle me but boy, they sure can. I respect them so much and how smart and strong they have been throughout their lives. But I'm a grown woman who has to do what's right for me and my little family. -
I can say that I went through this for about 18 months. I gained 30 pounds along the way. I ate WAY too fast and ate too much. I would not be concerned too much with an eating disorder other than overeating. What happens with folks that are banded is when you eat too much too fast, food gets loged in the opening. This feel very uncomfortable. She is going to the bathroom to "Get it back up". She probably at some point of getting up gets to the point where it all starts going through. Everyone learns how to cheat the band at some point. The band is a tool, just as a tool in your tool box. A wrench can be used as a hammer, but it is best used as a wrench. If your daughter does not want to use the wrench as a wrench, you may not be able to tell her anything. To me it sounds like she needs to see if she is COMPLETELY committed to the program. For me (only a week and a half back on track), I learned if I get a small dish and put my small portion on it, eat it very slow, i feel fuller faster. You will see the trips to the bathroom cease as well. It should take aprox. 20 minutes to eat a half cup of food. Some can eat faster and be ok, but it will make you feel fuller. Also try baby spoons. I know it sounds silly but it helps. Trust me you cant get any sillier than seeing a 31 yr old truck driver (me) walking through a truck stop with a small dish and a baby spoon in hand. We do what we gotta do. I hope all goes well/

Just so I am being completly understood. I do not think your daughter needs to have fill taken out, and i do not think her doc will. She needs to slow way down on her eating. small portions, plenty of time. We are all food addicts. Some of us will even admit it. Three things your daughter needs. 1 a support system- you love your daughter and want what is best for her.. that is very clear, but if you are not banded or struggle with food adiction, you may not be that support system. 2. make better food choices. At restaurants order sides only. It is embarassing for us if we get stuck in public. 3. Get motivated... walk walk walk and throw in some walking too. To be clear motivation is not thinkin about doing... it is doing, and SHE has to do it.

I'm on vacation at Disney world with my mom and family and I'm miserable. My feet are KILLING me and my back is aching. I'm way too fat to be here. I wish we couldve taken this trip next year. I'm getting sleeved in exactly one week. Frankly, I can't wait. I'm so over this fat thing. I want to go home but were here for another 2 days. I'm trying to make the best of it but it's clear to everyone I'm miserable. I'm so glad my daughter is too little to remember mommy being sad at Disney. Shes having fun at least I guess I just needed to rant a little about the downfalls of being overweight and how it truly affects your happiness. Anyone else missing out on lifes pleasures because of their weight?

3 appointments today
Cindy2013 replied to Cindy2013's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So all went well with my appointments yesterday. The nutritionist visit was an eye opener. My pre-op diet will be 700 calories per day, and I'm expected to lose a minimum of 12 pounds during that 2 weeks. So what if I don't? Apparently my surgeon has actually taken patients to surgery, looked at their liver, and closed them back up with the instructions to do the 700 cal diet for another week or two. So I think I'll definitely be sticking to the 700 cal per day diet! I can't imagine the disappointment those patients had. The nutritionist explained the first 6 weeks post op to me. It won't be easy, that is for certain. But so many of you have done it--I can too. I go back today for the written testing with the psychologist stuff. I also have an appointment with the pain doctor regarding a pain pump, so it was really nice that they fit me in for the testing while I'm in town. Things are moving along! All sorts of emotions going on in my head. Am I sure I want to change my lifestyle so drastically? Do I have a choice if I want to get back to living a productive life? -
I have this feeling like theres a rock right under my breastbone. Like things are moving REAL slow. It makes me not want to put anything in there. For the first day or two, I don't think it was so apparent but maybe that was because I was in so much darned PAIN! I'm taking in my shakes slowly and am grateful for the fact that I can feel the change in my stomach. I will use it to my advantage and take as little as possible to satisfy my daily quotient. Speaking of daily quotient...gawd, my husband has become a drill sargeant! *man voice* "You really need to get with the program...you aren't getting nearly enough Protein. He cracks me up! I tell him 'I'm only on day 2, you goofball!' ... *man-voice* 'oh yea...well, ok.' lmao He is so sweet and took the entire week off for me. I think I should send him back to work...like yesterday hehehee. I'm feeling a bit better today (day 3). Each day seems to be improving exponentially.

Appetite at 18+ months out?
lsereno replied to DaniCan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll be three years out in May. Been at goal two years in March. My hunger is much more manageable post op, but it's still there, along with head hunger. The difference for me post-op is that I CAN manage my hunger. I really tried pre-op, but I just couldn't get it under control. I knew what to do, but I couldn't follow through. I had to eat more to get full and head hunger seemed worse too. Lynda -
Hey, I am waiting for my appointment with my bariatric doctor thats nxt week but in the mean time I wanted to be productive. I had an appointment with the sleep doctor. She ordered a sleep study for me. Im wondering if they say I have sleep apnea will it delay the process for my surgery, will I have to be on the machine for a certain period of time before I can have the surgery? Just curious as to how this works. Thanx for the advice!
