    First Appointment

It's a process, but nothing worth having comes easy. I would consider the pretesting and pre qualifying appts the easier part. Once you have surgery be sure to follow doctors instructions, stay focused, listen to your body and know that we are all here for you in this group! IT WILL NOT BE EASY... But the reward will be great. I'm 5 weeks post op and I've lost 42 pounds as of the 18th. I don't weigh myself regularly (personal choice) so I'm sure I've lost more. Good luck on your journey!!! You'll do great. "In the end we only regret the chances that we didn't take."
  2. Well I guess im going to be a slow losser Tuesday will make 1 week since being sleeved and i'ved lost 4 pounds. Yesterday I started my vitamins and protein shakes please give me a run down of what you eat from the time you wake up till the time you go to bed plus any actvities that you do, I'm a big girl I weigh 230 pounds on a 5ft1 inch frame I should be a fast loser right?
  3. I had my pre-op yesterday with my physicals, labs, pictures, pre-admit, etc... and they say I'm good to go for my surgery next Wednesday. Its very surreal and hard to believe that after such a long and trying road that the start of a new way of life is almost here. I'm very excited and ready. I need to stay focused and not get to anxious. This will be my first ever surgery so I'm a bit nervous, but I also work in the medical field and see surgical patients all of the time, so I know most do very well. One week!!!!

    Week 2

Glad to hear you are doing well. I am almost 4 weeks out and going in for a fill (maybe) this week. I am feeling really good too, but not much hunger. It is a great. I need to be walking more, but seem to find lots of excuses not to. I have to get myself on the stick again. Good to hear from you!

    June 24th sleevers!

I'm June 26. Hanging in there. Dealing with a little anxiety regarding the permanence of this. I did lots of research but am still feeling low. Seems as though it may be hormonal. I've read that for some people that happens. I have lost 7 lbs and am comfortable. Hoping I'll feel more energetic for going back to work next week.
  6. Hi all! I just went for my 10 week appt. I am down 52 pounds! I have had no complications, and I am feeling great. Hope everyone is feeling great and ready to take off some pounds this July!
  7. Went from size 20 pants...today tried on size 13.hipster jeans.....in 10 weeks..happpy joy joy.....

    Swimmers

I was originally told 4-6 weeks post op. I had my two week appointment today and was given clearance as my incisions are completely healed over. WOOOOT! Can't wait to swim a few laps!! She did say slow and easy, though. She doesn't want a lot of core twisting. I am thinking I will kick laps for the next week or so and see how that goes.
  9. After 3 weeks I did feel sluggish because my monthly bill came and I had heavy bleeding. I have slight anemia so it made it worse. My doctor told me to followup with GYN and to take a B12 for energy. I need some Popeye's spinach, lol.
  10. Well, I sit here patiently waiting for insurance approval. It was submitted 2 weeks ago. I know it was submited because the RN for United Healthcare called to go over some pre and post op info with me. Even asked me when my surgery date was in which I replied, "I don't know, do you know something I don't?" No answer for that question. I have United Healthcare so not sure how long it will take, but the wait is killing me!! If I had hair I would have pulled it all out by now.

    No Energy

Cheznoel is right.....Rome was not built in a day. Don't under estimate the assault this surgery has on your body. I was very much out of sorts for a good 2.5 weeks, and didn't really feel "good" until 4 weeks. During the first three weeks I had weepy moments, and felt very frustrated at times. Even yesterday, I was so out of sorts, and all I wanted to do was eat......but I couldn't. I wanted to take a sleeping pill to escape, but I had to just sit with the feelings & wait for it to pass. Give yourself a break.... If you feel sad or out of sorts, allow yourself to feel it; don't fight it. Just rest, go for a walk, read a book, etc. The days will pass soon enough, and you will come through this.
  12. Hi I'm 14 weeks out today and loving my sleeve although I'm a slow loser down 40lbs but very happy as there is NO way I could have lost like this before. My issue is that for the past few days since I dropped a bit more weight I've been getting the same kind of pains you get when you have a period. Back ache and that dragging feeling on your stomach? The thing is I'm 47 and have had the Mirena coil in for 3 cycles now so I don't get periods. What is going on? Any suggestions? Thanks
  13. I am 3 weeks post op and just had my first episode of vomiting today, due to a GI bug that is plaguing out home. Nasty!! I felt a lot of pain in my mid chest between my breasts when vomiting. It stopped hurting when I was done, I don't think I hurt anything. Anyone have any experience with this unfortunate event...???

    2 months

Way to go! I also had my two month post-op this week. I have lost 53 pounds. I am doing my first 5K on Saturday . I feel great I bet you do too!

    Milk

Thanks for the info. With only being 2 weeks post op the sugar contents worry me. I was told to stay under 8 grams of sugar per meal so not to dump so I am super scared about the milk since it is 12 grams per cup. Any more advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Hey guys I'm already ending my 3rd week post op and I'm usually a big gum chewer to help with the dryness in my mouth. Just wondering when is a good time to start chewing gum? It can be sugar free gum, I just rather chew on that when I know I'm not hungry and not forcing myself to eat which is worse. I have been sucking on mints to substitute the gum. But does anyone know when I can start ?

    Uck, Ill :(

So sad your feeling rotten! There was a nasty flu going through California last month, it seemed to hit everyone, started in the throat... sometimes went into the lungs and even the tummy for some. I had it for 3 weeks before I felt better. Luckily, the tummy was spared. Happy birthday, how you feel better soon...

    Full liquids

That's great! I had my surgery on Monday and was on clear liquids for 24-48 hours then go to full liquids as tolerated, my surgeon wants me on solids by my 2 week post op visit. I've had a lot of incision pain but I am eating egg salad in vet y tiny bites and so far so good, now I just used egg and mayo but still going well.

    Vena Cava filter

My doctor and I discussed it, but that is also because I have an autoimmune thing that makes me prone to clotting. I do have a history of DVT and my rheumatologist wanted me to be on lovenox for a week post op. But in the end I did not get the filter, nor did I have to do a week of lovenox. I just had 3 shots while I was in the hospital. Of course I never quit taking my aspirin either though, even prior to surgery. I have never heard of the requirement of being over a certain age or BMI to get a filter though and 10 days on Lovenox seems awfully long for this procedure, but I guess that is why I am not the doctor. There are so many different opinions on pre and post op dieting that I guess it stands to reason that there will be diff opinions by the surgeons on this matter too...LOL. Good Luck either way you chose.

    5 Days Out

I was the opposite , I could get down an entire shake ( muscle milk ) but not my water. lasted a couple weeks but now I do pretty well, maybe 2 20oz bottle of water a day and at least one muscle milk.. sometimes 2. but I am eating chicken and salmon now so I dont worry too much about it. I am awaiting my liquid vitamins now, looking forward to getting started on them. be sure to ask anything at all here, this place is great

    After 3 Months Out....

My calorie intake varies from day to day. I also have days where I can eat way more than other days. I have mfp set at 1000 but I don't hit that most days. I'm a slow loser too but I think that's just me because I've tried mixing things up a dozen different ways. The only time I'm really losing well is when I'm getting good excercise in. I have a difficult time with that due to health issues but my goal is to really push myself to excercise at least 5 days a week.
  23. HAD MY SLEEVE- 12-27- 3 DAYS POST-OP- The surgery was at 1:30pm on tuesday- I remember being wheeled into the operating room- it was cold- the nurse introduced me to the staff...like was I supposed to remember their names...was there a quiz later???? Well, after that I was out like a light remember waking up as they were moving me from recovery to my room. Lots of chest pains- thought I was having a heart attack- they gave me nitro pills under my tongue and dilauden for pain. Really bad the 1st three days- heavy acid and pain, everywhere- couldn't stay in the bed- slept in the chair for 2 nights. got more x-rays- too swollen liquid not going down- xray doctor concerned. my doctor- not. finally this morning I got steroids for the swelling- by 2pm felt like a new person. Why couldn't I have gotten them yesterday? went home at 5pm with dilauden, vicodin, zocor, lavaxor?- daily blood thinner injection. and 2 things for acid reflux. some nurses were great- others were ok- some were downright idiots- I thought there were too many nurses with degrees- how they found these few morons I don't know- i.e. bariatric floor- she gives me a straw and tells me to take big gulps so the pressure of the Water will flow through- are you kidding me???? or one tells me to lie flat on my stomach to push out the gas (incisions and all!). and fyi I didn't ask for anything...stayed very low key. So far- best day I have had. Very supportive family- came home to crystal light, broth and diet Jello all lined up for me and all of my medicines in a daily pill box. After going through this I don't know if I would recommend it yet- will keep u updated/

    Gassy!!!!!

I am finding that for me the stomach gas with lots of belching and even left shoulder pain seems to happen most often when my stomach is empty for too long. at least that is my new theory that I am testing and so far I am correct  I had problems about 2-3 weeks post op and then was fine until just a couple weeks ago, now I have been getting lots of gas. The thing those two time peroids have in common is a mostly liquid diet. I am currently doing a meal replacement program with my doctor to "jump start" my weightloss and have 2 shakes and dinner. I am finding that if I eat a small snack between shakes I do not have the problem with the gas.

    EXCITED...lost 5 llbs

Me neither. I weigh myself so much that I can usually predict how much the scale is going to say at night or if I eat something that is more salty then most. My personal trainer keeps telling me only to weigh myself once a week, but whats the harm in 5x a day ?! lol
