    PROTEIN

I've found 2 that I like - 1st place: Premier Protein chocolate shake - 2nd place: EAS carb control chocolate I like them even better with a scoop of powdered chocolate protein thrown in. I like my Protein shakes kinda thick. I bought a bag of chocolate soy Meal Replacement mix at Sam's Club and have been putting a scoop of it in my shakes. Sometimes they feel a little "grainy" but they always taste good. No chemical aftertaste. AND cheap, just over $1.50 per shake. You can get EAS at Wal-mart - 4 for $5. The Premiers, I had to buy a case of 12 at Sam's - 12 for $19.

    Need a Buddy

I don’t have a gallbladder so no not that. But I’m having a very hard time transitioning from soft proteins to regular food. Most days I never get in only half the fluid and I meet the protein with protein drinks help when I have dumping syndrome which is often in this stage for me. I had liver disease liver induced diabetes and failing kidney from hereditary triglycerides was eating at my liver so either gastric or donor. Anyways during being sick with liver I got to where I didn’t like meats well. So it’s been hard. So I use genepro with crystal light to get my protein. Lots of people think it doesn’t work but I’ve done my research and it’s absorbing great with me. I’m still nauseous especially if out to eat home somewhat better. My appetite sucks unless it’s non protein then I’m good. By the way I’m southern as cornbread so excuse my speech lol. East Tn at bottom of mountains lol.

    Hello to all

I'm 10 tens post-op. I swear each day I feel better. So I hope you feel better soon. I have had the GNC Whey no-flavor protein. It was not terrible. I also have sent away for UNjury protein which I have been told is really good. They sell sample packs so you can see what you think.

    Hello to all

I like Designer Whey. I've tried the chocolate and strawberry. They aren't so bad when mixed with milk. I've tried others and they were pretty bad. I've bought all of my protein through drugstore.com. They have a GNC store within their site, and you can get most items way cheaper than you can purchase them at GNC, you can use a gold card there too if you have one. They send out many promotions for discounts and free shipping.
  6. I hate days where I don't have restriction because I feel guilty if I eat more than I do on restriction days even if it really isn't that much food - but I also hate the feeling of food getting stuck in my esophagus and feeling like it is going to spew out of my mouth if I talk. I had great restriction at dinner Friday night all day Saturday and Sunday - then today I had a protein shake which usually tightens it up because it is cold - no restriction - went to lunch with my daughter - Mexican food which I never eat and ate a cheese enchilada with no problem - I usually can't eat anything like that - then when I got home later I ate 1/2 of a deviled egg and it went down fine and it usually gets stuck - I wish I knew the answer to why some days and some days not - Thanks!

    Anyone With Kaiser's Bariactric Program?

I just finished the Options course at Kaiser Woodland Hills on Dec 16, on the 17th, I got a message that my referal was sent to the surgeon, and the following day I got a call and my first appointment is on January 6th. They require you to lose 10% of your body weight before the surgery. At 422lbs, I have 42 pounds to lose. As of this morning, I am down 27 pounds. I will be busting my butt to get as close to my goal weight as I can by my appointment.
  9. I still feel weak. I drink my protein shakes and water and I still feel weak. I have no energy to do anything. I'm on puree diet and 8 still feel like this. Sometimes I wish I didn't do the surgery. I was active always on the go and now I'm a total different person. I hope things get better.

    Stress test

Thank you so much for answering I was so freaking out since I already had and echo done none doctor had ordered a stress test. Once I get the okay from cardio doctor its waiting for the insurance approval..... Ahhhh the joy of waiting. Hello Everyone - I have a question have any of you done a treadmill stress test? And what it involves? I have to past this test and get it signed off from my cardio doctor before my dr will summit for approval from my insurance. Going this Wednesday..... I am already started on 1700 calorie diet with a Protein shake for one of my meals. I have cut out all caffiene for about two months do you think that will be a plus.... thanks for taking the time to answer..... I had to do a treadmill test also. I went in and they did a sonogram of my heart first. It took about 30 mins. Then I went in for the treadmill test. They did a resting EKG and took my blood pressure. Then I got on the treadmill and was still hooked up. It started slow and got faster and inclined. I had to get my heart rate up to a certain number but I can't remember. Once it was there she stopped it. It only took maybe 10-15 mins, and was a lot easier than I thought.

    Bariatric Advantage

Hi I live in Dallas and i wish i could sell you the optifast shakes at a discount of course. Dr. Kim is my surgeon and i had to buy those shakes too. I didnt care for them much because i already liked a different brand protein shake before the pre-opt diet. What a waste of money because i didnt even drink them.
  15. I'm so frustrated! I had my husband hide the scale because it was freaking me out. I'm 3 1/2 weeks post-op (June 28th), and Ive only lost 1/2 a pound since 4 days after my surgery. I'm getting all my protein and water in. I'm currently on mushies, and I'm doing my best to watch carbs. One of the biggest problems is that I can't actively exercise. I badly broke my ankle at the end of May, so rehabbing it is standing in the way of exercising. How can I not be losing weight...I'm only eating about 400 calories?!! I did Medifast a couple of years ago, weight just fell off, and I was eating ALOT more:(. I'm so discouraged. I know everyone stalls, but I didn't think it would be so soon after surgery.
  16. I use Torani sugar free syrups all the time in my protein shakes. What you make sounds really good.
  17. When I went in for the first time Dec 2011 the lapband was the newest best thing. I was a lightweight at 206 but had diabetes and a bunch of other stuff. I wish the Dr. would have went over my options more with me because if I knew then what I know now post revision May 6th to the sleeve my journey would have been a lot easier. Best of luck!

    Another question

I agree with what everyone else has said. One major difference I have noticed between pre-op life and post-op life is that it takes a different mind-set and a different focus that I have noticed that many people (including me!) have difficulty adjusting, too. Pre-op, we are focused on minimizing food (calories, volume, etc.) while battling hunger and our bodies desire/need for nourishment and an almost infinite capacity. Post-op, the focus changes to maximizing our nourishment with a much smaller/limited capacity and less of a desire/need to eat. Unless I am really hungry, my default state now is to not be hungry. Sometimes I have to remind myself to eat. Before, my default state was hungry. The focus now is to maximize Water and Protein. Before it was to minimize calories. What I am trying to say is that don't let the fact that you are able to drink/eat anything at all freak you out. It is a learning process as you get used to your new reality. Just keep sipping away and focus on your plan. Get in all your water and protein the best you can and you will be fine.

    Liquid diet:

I think the intent of the Pre-Surgery liquid diet is to shrink the size of your liver. Also you should consume atleast 65grams of protein everyday on this diet, so the protein shakes are very important!!

    Increase Protein?

I get 60 g of protein. My surgeon said inscreased protein can help speed up weight loss. I wish I could tell you why, but I didn't ask. I figure that he is the expert, so I will take his word for it. lol

    I'm new ; need advice

Hi Nuria! I am from AZ & had my surgery with Dr. Ortiz & loved him! I went back for my first fill & was very happy that I did. They use Florouscopy & I could actually see my band & and the Water going down. It was a perfect fill for me!! As far as what you eat, everyone is different. Some days I can eat bread, other days I can't! I've always been able to eat rice. Here is a list of some foods that I typcially eat. (I only choose one for each meal, not all!) Breakfast: Protein shake/2 scrambled eggs/1/2 cup of wheat chex Lunch: 1 cup of Wendy's Chili/small salad/egg salad sandwich Dinner: Small serving of whatever I make my family. (spaghetti, casseroles, chicken & rice, Soup...etc.) I drink lots of water through out the day as well. I really can eat most anything - just smaller portions. I think you'll have to figure out what works best for you. Good luck!!

    Liquids & weightloss

Absolutely.your body is already in starvation mode from RNY. If you're not getting enough liquids you're also dehydrated. That means your body will pull moisture out of anywhere it can. From muscles, causing lack of energy. From your bowels, causing constipation. Liquids between meals also helps keep you feeling full. The MOST IMPORTANT things post op are protein and liquids. You're success in this process depends on them. How are you not getting enough? By that I mean what's holding you back? Does it hurt to drink? Do you not have enough time between meals to get it in? Maybe we can offer some suggestions to help you out.

    Too much weight too soon?

I think it is great that you are losing weight. My concern is that you are eating so few calories. Most of us have to be around 500 immediately after surgery, but once you are a month or so out, I think you are supposed to go up to 800-1200 a day. How are you getting in 60 g of Protein on so little? I understand about not having an appetite, but my doc says that even if I'm not hungry, it is important that I eat every couple of hours to get my metabolism reved back up. I would consult with your doctor. Krista

Final 4 weeks until surgery day!!!

awesome . Im in my final 4 week stretch and I have been eating protein protein protein for months now I am eating basicly protein and lean meat and vegetables really not messing with the carbs any more a can of tuna fish dumped in a salad is my go to lunch . I look forward to sitting on the loser's bench with you guys.I could have and should have lost at least 25 pounds or more based on what I was eating … I failed to mention that at least two or three times a week this past month I was also curling up with a glass or two of sangria...… Had noooooooo idea it was sooooooooooooo much sugar and carbs in just one glass let alone two three times a week. well I am finished beating myself up I really just didn't realize that until my niece said something to that effect and I googled it . I am still eating correctly and eliminating the sangria I still have time to make a good mark.. learn from my mistake...
