I looked at the menu. I would vote the chicken stew or the salmon salad. Or the clam chowder, (higher calorie) or the thai chopped salad. But watch your calorie counts. I bet they are quite high.

Hi all! My surgery date is May 14th so that means I start my meal replacements on April 30ish. I can only have 700-900 calories a day. My question is how did y'all keep your mind off of your hunger (aside from keeping your eye on the prize...the surgery date). I'm known to get crafty from time to time but not sure how many crafts it is going to take to keep me from remembering I'm hungry lol. I'm going through this break-up with food and I get so worried it's going to call trying to win my love back ! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Acid indigestion? Maybe? Help...
angelface811 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everybody thank you for taking your precious time to read my posts. I am 4 months out of having laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery and in the last 2 days have had at times an icky taste in my mouth as well as a feeling of acid indigestion and mild tummy pain. I am on Prevacid once per day. I also have to take Miralax every day to stay regular. I am currently eating between 800-900 calories per day and 75-85 grams of protein and hydrating very well. Could it simply be acid indigestion? Anyone else experience this? Any input is welcomed... -
I went on a cruise in October and had just got a fill. I had a ball and with the weight loss, I was so much more active. I also hit the gym while I cruised and took the steps a lot. I always ate my protein first then my veggies and maybe fruit. I rarely ate dessert, and the night I wanted my favorite dessert, I planned accordingly for those extra calories. You will be fine if you do not make your cruise about food (shopping tends to be my focus )

What am I doing wrong?(weight problems)
Amanda R posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I track my calories on mfp. I eat around 1700-2,000 and exercise anywhere between 300-400 calories a day. I was down to 276 from 278 which is a big feat for me since for some reason I am not losing any weight. We ended up going out to eat and I probably had about 500 calories more than I should for that day, but figure no biggie I was going to burn it off from all the extra walking and such we were doing. Boy was I wrong. I gained 3 pounds in 1 day!!. I'm now up to almost 280. I'm about to freak because I have to weigh in soon. I thought maybe I just had too much salt or something and waited to try and weigh myself again the next day-nope still says almost 280. -
How much did you lose at 8 weeks ?
Sleeveless in seattle replied to sleeve30's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I started at 347, lost 34 pre-op (2 months self motivated diet waiting for surgery...it's so much easier when you know there's a light at the end of the tunnel). In the 2 months post op I lost 32 more. I am on the slower side for my size but like previous poster said, I would've lost faster had it not been for pre-op weight loss. I'm happy with it though, it helped prep my mind and body tremendously. I'm 2-1/2 months out now and my total loss just hit 70 lbs. just to add, I didn't lose much the first month. When I could finally hit 700-800 calories that's when my body complied and lost faster. I've lost 5-6 lbs a week a few times and 1/2 lb once in month one. -
Your words are so true! I never counted calories and now I am obsessed with what I am putting in my mouth. I am only 7 weeks post op but this is a big change. Keep up the good work! I am down 22lbs and feel great! Whatever it takes to drill this new lifestyle in our heads is what we need in order to concour the weightloss. IT WILL HAPPEN!!! YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL!!!!

Today is my 2 month anniversary of getting my surgery. Since then I have lost almost 30 lbs, a couple of inches and also gained a lot of "You look great" comments. I decided on not getting a fill on my 6 week visit but I am going to see my surgeon next week to see where we are at. The band has been great for me, but I don't think in the ways many people would think. Has it cut my appetite? Sure it has. That is what it is meant for. But a lot of other things changed for me after I got my band! Myself as a person, changed first and foremost. I think what the band has done for me more than anything is change my thinking. I gave up things that I don't really have to with the lap band. I can't really say why either, but I know I needed a change. I know I needed this to be more than just "well I can eat less but still eat crap". I needed to change my head and it is funny how a piece of plastic around my stomach can change that. I have given up what a friend of mine calls the "white devils". Sugar, Rice, Potatoes and Bread. This was not something I was planning on doing. It was something that kind of happened naturally after I healed from surgery. I am not sure what triggered this but I am glad it happened. I also started working out. A LOT. At least 4 days a week. It has now become somewhat of a addiction. I feel like I need to get my "sweat on" and if I don't I feel like I let myself down. I also started counting calories and that has helped a lot. Again not something you have to do with the lap band and not something I was planning on but it just happened. Restriction is great, but the real deal for the lap band in my case has been the change in my head. The lap band is my daily reminder to do right, to stay on the difficult path and to move in positive directions. It came upon at the right time of my life where I was truly ready for change. I don't think the band would have worked for me if my head wasn't ready to make this all possible. The band is a tool. It doesn't do the work for you. It can't change your habits if you don't want them to change. It can't stop you from eating that cookie if you can't stop yourself. I guess those of us who have had the lap band use it differently. I just know it didn't just affect my hunger and I for one, am very happy about it.

You can do this....I went from probably eating 4000+ calories per day to my preOP diet that consisted of NO protein shakes. It was clear liquids ONLY for 7 days. Take it one "meal" at a time, one day at a time. This is a time to allow your liver to shrink, to ease the surgery process. Don't think this will last forever. Think of how good you will feel about yourself for doing this. Go for a walk while others in your life "eat" during this short term process. Best of luck to you!

Pre-Op Appointment this week. Then Pre-Op diet next week!
AmineR8705 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I'm counting down the days until my surgery and everything is coming together well and time is flying by so quick. I started this process back in February and I can't believe its almost May already lol. Well its been a long time coming to get a Lap Band and its been a full year of researching all the surgeries and soaking up all the info I can get. I'm stoked on getting the surgery and living a better lifestyle and being healthy and doing the things I thought I would never be able to do with being overweight. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and I will get there!! My Pre-Op diet consist of High Protein and low carbs (800-1100 calories per day). I'm not looking forward to it but I have a great mindset and I will push through it!! I have been doing little things for the past week to kind of prep myself post op by portioning my foods, reading food label's, chewing thoroughly and not drinking while I eat. I gotta say its rough trying to kick the drinking part but I know if I continue doing that I will have nothing but issues after getting my lap band. I had the chance of going on video last week to document/track my progress after surgery and beyond. I never thought in a thousand years of making a YouTube video and letting the whole world see me lol. Since researching for my surgery, just watching other peoples videos it gave me the bravery and inspiration to do it and knowing in a year or two I could look back on it and just smile on how far I have came. Well I will shut up for now Good Luck to everyone that is about to have there surgery - Amine -
I've started two things - one, I'm taste-testing samples from a number of the Protein powders and Meal Replacements out there. Second, since I'm doing that, I'm pseudo practicing for the pre-op diet. Hey, if I'm drinking the Protein drinks anyhow, I might as well make it useful! What does that mean, exactly? The diet is to use 3-4 Protein shakes during the day, plus one small meal for dinner. Total is not to exceed 870 calories, so while I can use skim milk to mix my drinks, it wouldn't leave a lot for dinner! I'll likely choose the protein powders I can tolerate well mixed with Water, and try to be satisfied with 3 of those during the day, so that I can have around 300-350 calories for dinner, since I'll be looking for dense protein to keep me satisfied overnight. I can, of course, have all the non-caloric liquids I would like during this diet. What I am doing (as of today) is replacing Breakfast and lunch with 2-3 protein shakes during the day. At dinner time, I am not eating with the restricted calories I will be during the diet, but I am trying to keep my portion size to something equivalent to what I will eat in the pre-op diet and focusing as much as possible on protein. I am trying to keep the total day between 1000 and 1200 calories, but I'm not being obsessive about it. The reality is that if I'm only getting 3-500 calories during the day, that leaves me 700-900 for dinner - that's a pretty big amount of room. I've told myself that if I am positively starving during the afternoon, I will allow myself one more Protein shake, but I'm trying to work with just 3 shakes and lots and lots of water or tea during the day. Other than including a Protein Drink for breakfast so that I *do* have breakfast, I am not focused on dieting on the weekends, just trying to be mindful of what I am eating and keep carbs and calories in check. What I'm expecting from this is three things. One, of course, is that I will spend the next few weeks trying out a lot of protein drinks and maybe some preparation methods. Two, I will get these reviews onto my blog (http://livebytes.net/blog/spacedust/ for anyone who's interested) to try and give others some ideas of nutritional values and what I thought of the stuff as I give it a try. Third, I suspect that it won't hurt in the usual battle to lose a few pounds, and certainly won't hurt for me to get used to what it's like from the perspective of if I get uncomfortably hungry or not. Wish me luck!

What about this one?: "From the makers of the first Protein shot, Yes Whey™ is the first and only to use 100% pure whey protein -- and nothing but whey protein. Yes Whey was designed to help consumers feel at ease about the quality of protein they consume. This guarantees that the protein going into your body has a PDCAAS* of 100, the highest quality rating a protein can receive. Yes Whey contains 25 grams of whey protein, zero fat, zero carbohydrates, and 100 calories -- all in less than three Fluid ounces." -
Man... I just hardly cant believe its only been 8 weeks! It feels like ages ago I was sleeved. Tomorrow its 8 weeks and in these 8 weeks my body has already gone through such a transformation! Still unbelievable, I'm losing weight so fast my mind isnt anywhere near catching up and realising it.:bananajump: So far I have lost 42 pounds, and, whats even better, a TON of pain! I have fibromyalgia and just 8 weeks ago there was so, so, so much pain. Now I can honestly say along with the 40+ pounds I lost 50% pain. Everything has prettymuch been a breeze. I'm already totally used to not eating much, drinking lots of Water and have been riding horses again since 5 weeks out. I have also not had any stall whatsoever. I weigh once a week, but I bet I havent even stalled for a day Excersize is so much easier! I have not yet started anything "new". Just riding, cycling, walking every morning for an hour, and as long as that seems enough, I'll wait with any other sports. Eating about 600-800 calories a day, sometimes less. I can eat everything, just havent tried steak yet I do make sure I chew stuff I havent eaten yet until its liquid. Also started back on my diet Pepsi:001_wub:, only in the evenings. Well, what else can I say? Just that I'd do it again in a heartbeat ofcourse!:lol0: Hope all of you who still have to be sleeved will read this some day, as I read other succes story's, and will give you some hope and courage :lol0:

Foods After Surgery That Used To Be a No-No
barbie41 replied to SummerTimeGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow 1400 calories from postoperative day 1? That tells me why I am hungry. Clearly not eating enough calories. I think once I'm able to eat solid foods I will have no problem with my hunger. Thanks for sharing -
All liquid diet makes my 1200 calories look like a buffet!
Jessica H posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Day 2 of my pre-op liquid diet. I'm already sick of Protein shakes, pudding and broth. This is miserable! I had a headache that lasted 16 hours and I'm cranky as hell! My poor daughter is a saint for putting up with me. She made me laugh last night as she was chasing me around with a potato chip, taunting me. She's lucky I love her! I must confess I thought about throwing in the towel, but then I realized, I won't allow food to win. This time I'm going to succeed. I will power through this, like anything else I've encountered in my life. I'm stronger than the food! -

I am over six weeks out and somewhat active (Zumba, working with a trainer, 1-2 hours of walking) is 1050 calories too much?

http://www.netrition.com/healthsmart_chocolite_protein_shakes.html I have been drinking these since I had my lap band surgery in Feb. They are awesome. My favs are Peanut Butter, banana & chocolate which I mix together at times to make a pb & banana or pb & choc. Also instead of using Water I use 2% milk and for a 12 oz shake I use 6 ozs milk & 6 ozs water with 2 scoops of powder. Gives you 247.5 calories and 30 grams of Protein. Love these. Good Luck.

RDQ about "starvation mode" note on MFP
AmberH replied to dolphintattoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can tell you this much - I am post-op about 9 months out and I track with My Fitness Pal - I often have a difficult time making the 1200 calories but I have been stuck at the same weight now for weeks. I also get the warnings and it is sooooo frustrating!! I am working my butt off, I'm eating healthy - no cheating and my weight won't budge. I'm ready to tear my hair out. So pre-op I wouldn't worry about it too much - just do what your surgeon asked you to do. Post-op (once you are back to solid foods) I'd really try to get as close to 1200 as you can. Has anyone else experienced this?? -
Some times the body needs a break. 15 lbs is a good amount of weight, maybe your body is saying WHOAH! Stop! I need time to catch up. Its weird, I'll lose one week and gain the next w/out changing anything. If your at 1200 calories just keep it up and give yourself some time to heal, and remember, its not a race. Good luck !!!

Help I need advice!
gmanbat replied to UndercoverBariatricGal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
http://www.livestrong.com/article/309453-how-many-calories-do-i-burn-a-day-by-just-existing/ You will burn at least 1,300 calories a day just existing. What's my point? It is physically impossible for you not to lose weight if you burn more than you eat. What you are lacking is patience. You question is the most frequent one asked here, I think. We think that bodies will give up the fat like a vending machine gives up a can of pop. The body is a very complex mechanism with many safety features. Security against starvation is over-zealous for sure but we have to deal with it. Give it time, it will get the picture. I had many stalls and gains throughout my drop. Don't be a slave to the scale. Stress brings on appetite, ignore the scale for a while. -
Veterans can you help me please?
Brandeis replied to vannababyy22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, all kinds of little things can affect your weight. When did you last eat? When did you last have a BM? Are you retaining Water? How much have you had to drink? I also weigh myself every day, because I just can't HELP myself. :C But I try to always weigh myself at the same time of day: first thing in the AM, before eating, before showering, after peeing lol. That helps even SOME of the variables out. And if it goes up a little...well, it happens. Take a look at how little you're eating. Tally up how many calories you're consuming. You'll realize there's basically no way you CAN'T be losing, whether it be pounds or inches! -
Do you ever feel like somedays you fight as hard as you can against yourself to keep yourself from eating everything in sight... And then other days... You are fighting to get enough calories in in one day?
