Two weeks post op and started on normal food. Doing great! No complications other than the fact that I can't eat eggs in any form anymore. I get a terrible stomachache immediately afterwards. Anyone else have this problem since banding?

Is chewing food then spitting it out ok, is it bad for you, or just a bad habit?

I could start soft foods today. Which according to my NUT includes softer meat, (not pureed) I had 2 oz very lean skirt steak, 2 tbls guacamole and 2 tbls sauteed zucchini. I'm full and it was so delish! My tummy feels fine!

Hi All, I had my surgery last month and am now on the mushy food stage of the diet. Since the operation, I always have a nasty taste in my mouth and bad breath. I was hoping that this would subside when I moved to mushy foods but it has not improved. Just wondering if this is this normal and will it improve? Thanks

Like Floridays said. Track your foods to make sure you are eating correctly. Small plates and for forks keep me aware stil ltoday and that is 3 years afte surgery. i have been using a salad plate since my 1st consult with a nutritionist. It helps make you aware of food sizes. such as meeats should be the size of a deck of cards. If you have not seen a nutrionist, I would recommend doing so. They are helpful to guide you. Best wishes. karen

If i were a dr...which i am not I would ask several question before I could even begin to make a call on you not losing... Are you eating no more than 3 oz protien, 1/2 c veg, 1/4 c starch ...3 times each day ? Are you having no more than 1 or 2 Snacks which are low in calories? Are you tracking your food on paper or a phone ap? I mean every single thing you put in your mouth. How many calories are you consuming daily? Are you drinking 64 oz of Water each and every day? If you are doing all of that and your calorie count is reasonable ( mine was 1000-1200 the first month or so)... You should be losing weight. If not then you may want to consider trying it. No matter how you perceive the bands effectiveness... It's a tool to help you eat smaller portions to keep you satisfied longer. But you must out forth the effort in reducing your calories and portions. If you are doing all of the above...you may have a medical reason you aren't losing so I would gather my food diaries and march into my drs to find out why. Best of luck.

I don't know if that is normal, but if you can do it then I guess it is! I am out 13 months and can eat a whole lean cuisine spa meal and feel just right. . . my normal day goes like this B - quaker instant oatmeal with Water L - tuna sandwich on WW bread or whatever lean meat there is D - lean cuisine spa meal S - granny smith apples (very small) with the skins - Vitamins - diet soda Now on a not so normal day and i'm feeling blah, then i'll have whats above and enjoy slider foods too like crackers, some candy (especially black licorice) rum and coke (defizzed of course) piece of cake or pie, you get the picture. . . but not often ! Most times I fight the cravings and the boredom head hunger and drink tons of crystal light!

Yes, I was like that after one week post op & I believe it's because I was hungry, in pain with gas, etc. Now, two weeks post op I'm not emotional because I can at least have soft foods now. Keep your head up. We have to pray for better days.

I still have to drink my protein, but I get to chew........ -
I just had my 1st fill on 12/26. I was on liquid for a day, soft food a day. I'm now back on solids and yes I can tell a difference.
-
It's sometimes a sign of over fill. I also had this feeling and I have had some purging after eating. My dr said to keep going back to soft food im 2 wks Now and have good restriction but still careful of what I eat Waiting between bites. And finding that food I ate before fill longer agree with me.

Yes Mina I did feel better, Thanks! As for food being stuck, I feel the same, like the food is stuck in my esophagus! It only happens when I eat dinner with my family. I think I try to keep up with them and I always make myself feel sick. I am glad to hear you are feeling better! I guess walking is the remedy

I have actually found that a peppermint candy (since I don't have any fresh peppermint) helps me a lot with that overfull feeling. I keep a stash of candy canes in food storage just in case.

Five Days Post Op & Starving!
Butterthebean replied to vanessabalderas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most of the time, at your stage, it's not real honest to goodness hunger. Your stomach has just been drugged and mutilated. It doesn't want food, but your head still does. I didn't really know what head hunger was until that first week after surgery. The second week was even worse. But by the time I started eating solid food again, it was gone and I felt better. Also, many people have excessive stomach acid after surgery, and as a cruel twist of fate, it can feel just like hunger. Your doctor can give you a PPI to calm that down. -
 today went by slow but it was a learning day for day 1, drink slow and walk around !!!!! by the end of the day i do feel better then the day before. I keep seeing all these food commercials im like whyyyyy lol, it seems like you dont poay attention to them until you cant have it lol ! hopefull for tomorrow and looking at after pics sure so make me feel more motivated.

Not just keeping liquids down, is there a problem with them going down. Right after a fill, you can be swollen. That's why you should have nothing but liquids for a day or two after. And lastly, when your band starts to have some restriction, you have to learn to eat a whole new way. Stay with very soft foods, small bites ans swallows, wait enough time between. Eat like a bird! Then see if that helps. Also, if you drink while eating you will definitely get what your describing!

I agree with B-52 stay with soft foods for a while and see if that helps..
-
I don't know what your doc says, but mine said if I have an episode where anything comes up for any reason I am to go to a clear to full liquid diet for 24 hours to let the irritation pass before resuming soft foods. I dont know if that will help you or not, but I would try that. Jen

Give Me An Idea What Life Is Like At 1 Month Post Op --
traceyinflorida replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We went on a college tour with my son when I was three weeks post op. It involved driving every day, packing and unpacking in a new hotel every day, and walking all over campuses and eating out for two weeks. In addition, we spent most of the summer going to baseball tournaments or football camps (he is an athlete who would like to play at the college level) so there were a lot of hotel stays. Was it easy? NO Was it doable? Yes, definitely. I think Christmas and all the food and drink that you are used to enjoying are going to be difficult psychologically no matter where you are. Why not at least enjoy it with family in NYC? Some prior planning will be required. I carried my smoothie maker (which also pureed food) with me as well as my protein powder and made myself a shake every morning. You can keep snacks like string cheese, yogurt etc in your room in a cooler (or see if you can get a fridge in your room). If you eat out, order chili, soup or fish with some type of sauce that you can mash up and eat. They carry a protein shaker at Vitamin World that has a compartment for your protein powder in the bottom. Keep it with you in your purse. You can stop at any vendor or coffee shop and pick up milk or bottled water to make a protein shake on the fly. If you have a supportive family, you can also solicit their help in having a few things on hand that you can eat. -
So I am 2 weeks post op tomorrow. I am to be on a liquid diet for another week then I can move to puréed foods. I have done some "testing" based on what others have said. Do you think this is ok or should I just stay on my liquids for another week. I'm going crazy just having Soup broth, ice pops, yogurt and really thin oatmeal. I have tried some soft stuff out of the soup and I've had no issues. I even took a small bite of chicken and just really chewed it well and no issues. Just looking for some thoughts on moving to puréed stuff a week earlier than my dr tells me to. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Its weird how you can eat one food one day and then the next, you cannot tolerate it. Yesterday I had spaghetti (made with ground turkey breast and whole wheat noodles). I had no problem whatsoever. I just ate some for supper tonight (about half the amount I ate yesterday). It feels like a rock in my stomach. After 30-40 minutes I begin drinking Water. Eventually it washes it down and I get my fluids in.

I don't know about anyone else but I really have a hard time with warmed up food in the microwave .

It definitely gets better...and easier. I had horrible head hunger after coming home from the hospital...it seemed like every commercial on TV was food related. I remember seeing a commercial for Laughing Cow cheese and just thinking that if only I could eat a cracker with cheese on it I would be so happy!! LOL! I had dream after dream after dream about food....most revolved around sneaking Big Macs!! Now I'm almost 8 weeks out, eating almost anything I want (which BTW is not the junk I used to eat) and life is soooo good!!! I don't feel deprived and I feel "normal"....my relationship with food has changed...which I NEVER thought would happen!! Just hang in there....you'll get there too!!!

I have the same issues but label mine as a food addiction. I am (still) looking for a psychiatrist in my area that works with food addicts. Do you have anyone around that can distract you when you feel this way? My husband has been through the ringer with me getting upset when he asks me if I'm hungry or if I just need a fix. It's difficult to deal with and I have no answers as of yet. I know what you are going through and it is not fun to want to eat all the time when you know that you shouldn't. Sometimes, thinking of my hospital stay (which was not a good experience) is a good deterrant... other times I try to go for a drive or go sit outside. I have discovered (rediscovered) that I love working puzzles. They work as a distraction almost too well. I don't think of anything else except the puzzle - not eating, drinking, going potty, cooking dinner, appointments, etc. If you can find a distraction, that may help sometimes but I would recommend seeing a professional that can help with therapy.
