Help please. Is my band to tight?

Thank you so much for the imput. when i say vomiting I mean i will be eating and suddenly feel uncomfortable in my chest like the foods not going down then have to go to the bathroom and throw up chunks of food. It happens all the time now but I thought maybe i was eating wrong because several of the times its happened it was bread but then when it happened w/ yogurt I started to worry. Water stays down as long as i dont drink to much to fast. I havent had any problems until recently and I just thought maybe once i started vomiting that it was causing the band to tighten or swell. I dont have insurance so was trying to avoid going back to doctor unless I have to. Thanks

    Protein

I get a lot of my daily protein from chicken, eggs, cheese, and yogurt. Those are my main sources.
  3. You really won't feel very hungry for a few months, but by your first month some easy digestible foods are Yogurt, scrambled eggs, shredded chicken, turkey with a broth (moist is the easiest to eat), peanut butter, protein shakes, sugar free pudding, sugar free jello. You basically will work on eating protein and very little 2-3 ounces will fill you, I know it sounds crazy, but I am a year post mop and 4 ounces of chicken fills me up. Also remember natural sugars versus processed sugar foods are very different. I haven't had bananas yet. Remember the majority of weight you lose will be during the first 5-6 months and the. It really starts to slow down, so enjoy the not feeling hungry and just focus on proteins, and keeping hydrated. I live on chickens, Powerade zero and coffee

    Food panic attack

i don't even have a DR picked out yet and i am freaking out about eating before/after surgery...i eat a cup of yogurt and think, "after surgery i will only be able to eat half of this" or i take a glorious swig of my coke and think "after surgery i can't even have this anymore"...i know i have got to STOP this thinking...my obsession with food is part of what got me to this point...so when i start to think of all that i am going to miss i remind myself of all that i am going to welcome into my life...and that helps me get out of my own head

    "Lucky Losers" (March 2009 banders)

Hi All, I was banded on the 5th, been on liquids since. I'm hoping to move to mushies this week at my 3 week appt. I'm leaving Sat. for a 5 week assignment in India:ohmy:, so will be looking for some encouragement from abroad. I will be on mushies, soft foods, and transitional foods while away. I should be good with eggs and yogurt for breakfast, and plan to bring instant oatmeal and protein drinks for lunch, but will be struggling for dinner.:huh2: Any ideas are welcome.

    Protein

Keep trying different ways of getting in your Protein. Those protein goals take time to build up to so don't panic if you don't meet them right away. Keep trying protein drinks/powders until you find what you like. I tried at least 10 different ones as a trial run pre-op and I've probably gone through another 4 -5 post-op. A few I still have occasionally, but there are 2 I consistently use; Isopure unflavored and CVS whey protein vanilla flavor. I don't think I hit my protein goals until somewhere between weeks 1 and 2 post-op and that was just the basic goal of 60gms. I know hit between 80 - 100 everyday. Unflavored powder that can be mixed with Soups is a nice break from the sweet drinks. Mixing them with Water helps you meet you Fluid goals and lesson the super sweet taste. If you are allowed yogurt, 0% greek yogurt will also cut the sweet taste. Try mixing the Protein Powder with water and a bit of greek yogurt until it's a thinner drinkable consistency. The greek yogurt (I use FAGE 0%) adds a bit more protein and the slightly sour taste will cut some of the sweet of the protein powder.

    Pudding

Call your nutritionist. I was allowed yogurt on full liquids which would be the same consistency.
  11. I agree, the same has happened to me. My pre op is 0 carbs and only protein from low fat milk and low fat yogurt. Toothpaste is my best friend

    Recipes

Here is a link to some pureed recipes. My favorite was Ricotta Bake. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html I ate a lot of Soups, fat free refried Beans, pimento cheese (southern thing if you haven't heard of it), yogurt (with Protein powder added), sugar free pudding snack (with Protein Powder added).

    Shake Alternatives

My fav way to get protein post op: Vanilla protein powder, 1/2 cup soy milk, 1/2 cup water and a packet of Starbucks Via Instant Decaf, shaken so it doesn't get frothy. Vanilla protein powder, 1 cup soy milk, shaken so it doesn't get frothy. Unjury Chicken Protein Powder: Not my fav taste, but easy to travel with and the only thing I could tolerate immediately post-op. Greek Yogurt: The Fage 0 has 23 grams of protein per cup. Thin it with water and blend with a little orange juice ( about 1/8 cup) a couple of frozen berries, and some Splenda. I could do about 1/2 cup of yogurt like that within a week of surgery. Others like the fruit flavored, plain, and clear protein options, but I didn't care for any of them myself. Best wishes on your journey. Lynda

Doing this by myself - terrified!

You should be fine. I had a ride home from surgery, and that was it. No help more than that. Here are some things I did to make things easier on myself... My kitchen was ready. I had these tiny little tupperware (condiment sized) and I pre-measured broth and Water into those. I would get them set up in the morning and it was easy to keep track of my consumption. I also had all my med's lined up and ready for the day, Immediatly post-op I had my living room set up...sofa was ready with lots of pillows, tv ready, bathroom.... I had the frige ready for stage two..pureed. I bought boxed Soups, yogurt, and whatever else I thought of that I may need. I really wanted to avoid grocery shopping with my new sleeve so I prepared as much as possible. My ex kept the kids for about three days after my surgery. I was fine from that point on. Not much recovery time. Mostly it was food prep. The MOST important thing was realizing that my number One go-to coping skill (eating) was non-existent. So my big advise would be to not forget about lining up a few new ways of dealing with stress. Good luck on your journey!! The early days go by quick. The recovery isn't that bad. You can do it alone with some prep work.

    Nutrition plan share away.

My first week was clear liquids so I used premier protein (my surgeon allowed this as an exception to the clear rule), and ProtiDiet liquid beverage concentrate. My second week was full liquids (which also included Greek yogurt and cottage cheese). I also used ProtiDiet creamy chicken and tomato basil soup.

    Question about shakes

I was told the water or skim milk you use in your shake counts but the other ingredients don’t. So I’m you make a 12 oz shake that has yogurt and protein powder and 8 oz of fluid, you would count just the 8 oz. Broths count as liquids as do sugar free popsicles.

    Just wondering.

I'm trying to stick to 3 meals a day, but it is hard. I can't eat a lot in one sitting. So, I'm eating 3 protein items and if I snack it is fruit or vegetables. I'm still trying to figure it all out. I eat yogurt and 1 T of pumpkin seeds and 1/3 cup granola. I eat this everyday. Lunch: chicken salad, tuna salad or snack tray of protein Dinner: steak most of the time, sometimes chicken. Broccoli last night Snacks might be a few cherries and 1oz cheese I also, buy vegetable trays and eat cauliflower or broccoli. I also eat a pickle here or there. My challenges are making better choices. I like Starbucks and I need to stay away. I choose the lower calorie drinks if I do get one.
  19. I was sleeved Monday (22nd). I'm on full liquids as well. I don't have any problem getting my thinner, watery liquids in but do have some difficultly with the denser liquids, Protein shakes, yogurt, malto meal Cereal etc. I can only handle 1-2 oz of those at a time. More than that and I feel like I have a bubble in my chest. I never feel "full" I just seem to be in a constant state of not being hungry. With that being said, 4 oz per hour is the minimum. My dr said 2 oz should be Water or water substitute like crystal light and the other 2 oz full liquids. It's ok to have more liquids than that, just slow it down and you'll be fine.

    Frustrated with Band Results

Welp, Reverie and I are going to disagree again. I think breakfast is important. (and no, Rev. I don't have any sites to back my opinion up.. I don't feel like debating). Bkfst doesn't have to be a big deal. It can be a Protein drink, a glass of skim milk, greek yogurt & fresh fruit, oatmeal. It could even be leftovers from the night before. I was never a breakfast eater in my pre-banded life. Now I am. The thing is, OP, you're not happy with your current results and you're not eating breakfast. Why not try eating something in the first hour or two after getting up and see if it makes a difference? The other suggestions (hydrating, journaling food, moving more and reading Dr. Simpson's "Not about restriction" post) are excellent ideas too. Best of luck to you.
  21. I also had my surgery July 16. I was on Clear Liquids for a week, but was unable to drink any of the Protein drinks because I'm pretty sure it caused dumping syndrome for me, even in small amounts. Instead, I drank plain greek yogurt mixed with Water, about 2 Tbsp at a time for a week. I've just started eating 2-3 Tbsp of cottage cheese or watered down refried Beans, 3 times a day. I tried scrambled eggs a couple days ago (ate a quarter of one egg) and felt uncomfortably full. I also drink about 2/3 of a G2 and have a couple sugar free popsicles a day. I've gotten above 200 calories once in all these days. My biggest problem is getting tired easily, which is an obstacle because I also have two little kids and a husband who is gone for the summer. I'm allowing myself to take it as easy as I can, figuring everything non-essential can wait. I'm active normally because of my kids' activities, so I'm not burdening myself with trying to exercise while I'm eating so few calories.

    Measuring

Should I be measuring intake during full fluid stage? I can "drink" a whole can of Campbell low fat soup made with water and blended in magic bullet. It does take me about 20 minutes to drink it all, but get worried when people say they can only take in half a cup. Should limit my soups and yogurts?

I'm happy to not eat - my body isn't liking it though

Congrats on your loss! I am still in the pre-op phase but I have heard many people say they liked refried beans and cheese, ground beef or turkey pureed with spaghetti sauce and cheese, protein shakes made with greek yogurt and 100% fruit juice. These are just a few things that I said I was gonna try once in that stage. I am loving the GNC banana cream ready to drink lean shake right now. To me it has a good flavor and not an overwhelming protein taste. Hope this helps! Can't wait to see you on the banded side!
  25. I'll admit, the Protein is a struggle. a lot of the pureed protein options (tuna, chicken salad) are giving me diarrhea (also had gallbladder out during RNY) and eggs are getting OLD. I do my shake in the morning and yogurts during the day. Eggs when I can stand the thought. It's rarely 4 hours, usually 3. But I wake up feeling really HUNGRY and if it's been 3 hours, there's a good chance I really feel the need to eat.
