    No Sleeve For Me

Pevette and Pookeyism, Yes, I have heard of "upgrading" surgeries from others. In plastics, often insurance will cover a panneculetomy, but surgeons will charge the patient the difference to upgrade. I have hounded the insurance coordinator from a variety of angles attempting to get a price for the difference of the band removal and revision to sleeve. I am more than willing to pay a fair difference. I was told that it was fraud to submit on procedure code to insurance when in fact another was performed. They refuse to do it. Maybe someone with insurance filing experience can explain this to us?

    Gastric By Pass Vs Sleeve

too many long term complications with the bypass. I work as a nurse in an large urban emergency room and see ALL the complications... from erosion of the esophagus from the lapband and slippage to intestinal blockages and ended up with the colostomy bag with the bypass. I have only seen ONE complication (except dehydration) from the sleeve which was a post surgical abscess. Hands down the sleeve was for me !!!

    Confused!

Hi everyone: Im new to this site. I had lap band surgury 2/14/2011 and have had nothing but problems. First 6 months lost a good amount of weight, but I was also on phentermine as well. I throw up all the time, always hungry, and can't seem to find my green zone. Im thinking of having a revision to the sleeve, but not sure if the sleeve will be all that great either. I also think I'm 50% to blame since I dont exercise anymore nor do I eat all my Protein. I just can't stand the throwing up or hunger pain when I do eat right. I could really use some advice. Is the sleeve a better choice than the band?

    Will They Deny Me?

A lot of doctors require psych evaluations because that is what insurance companies require. You may be able to skip that part. I have a friend who had a gastric bypass, the psychologist wanted him to have additional sessions before she would clear him. He was so anxious that he just went to Mexico and paid to have the procedure out of pocket. I feel he lost the opportunity to learn positive new coping mechanisms, as now that he is 6 years out he has gained about 70% of his weight back.
  5. If you can get it for the same price, and your doctor has a good reputation for the surgery, I don't see the issue in staying there if that's what you decide. This struck me as odd, though: I don't really agree with that. My surgeon has said point-blank several times that until they get inside the abdominal cavity, they will not know what they are dealing with as far as the band and scar tissue goes. I asked because I asked if they were going to do any pre-op band testing or anything. He said several times that even if they do tests and everything looks great, until they have an eye on the stomach, they're not going to know what they're dealing with. That's why my surgeon won't guarantee a revision will happen in one procedure. He'll take out the band and then evaluate whether there is too much scar tissue to do the sleeve.

Did Anyone Have The Smaller Lap Band 2002

I had a small band and had no trouble having the revision surgery and the band removed at the same time. Are you having any problems or symptoms of band troubles?

    The Look Of Bypass

I know exactly what you are talking about. Everyone I have talked to that has had the bypass has resembled that description. Too bad they didn't pick the sleeve. It may have taken a little longer to lose all of the weight but I really think it is much healthier to slow it down a little more. With the sleeve our body takes everything it is suppose to from food and theirs just can't.

    New Member - 12 Weeks Post-Op

In the first 6-8 weeks it was definitely a challenge to eat anything more that 1/4-1/2 cup at a time. Now that I'm 12 (almost 13) wks out I am up to about 3/4-1 cup at each meal. I'm Canadian and had my rny surgery via a bariatric centre where I live. It has a whole team that has supported me throughout the process, and my dietitian has assured me that my intake amount is right on track. She stresses that when eating, the focus should be on getting the Protein consumed first. So I do just that. I've been eating a lot of peanut & almond butter lately, lol. I also love cheese so I try to have some of that everyday too. Tuna is something else I've been enjoying. My dietitian said that at this point any deficiencies from not being able to eat any or very little veggies & fruits should be balanced out by the daily multi-Vitamins and calcium/Vitamin D supplements that I've been prescribed to take. I stopped drinking the protein shakes (powder & liquid) at about 3 weeks because I couldn't find any that I liked. I then focused on Protein Bars (the soft, brownie consistency kind, not ones with nuts) and ate about 1/2 a bar at a time. Again, my dietitian said this was fine as long as they were sitting in my tummy fine. Now that I'm further along I make my own protein shakes using unflavoured Protein Powder. There are quite a few good recipes online - I just googled "high protein smoothies for gastric bypass surgery". One of my faves has soy chocolate milk, protein powder, 1/2 banana, 2 tbsp. Peanut Butter & ice. I admit that I don't really keep track of my protein count so I may be falling short. I have my 3 month follow up in a couple of weeks, and just went to get my bloodwork done for that this morning. So I'll be finding out where all of my levels are at - hopefully all is good!
  11. I am having my revision done Thursday. I am sooo ready be done with the arm/shoulder and port pain. Surgeon says I can have a light Breakfast tomorrow then Clear liquids until midnight. If anyone has any advice or info I would appreciate it. Please say a prayer for me. Thanks

    Sleeve Vs. Bypass

Theres a surgery called the duodenal switch. Its a step up from the sleeve. They literally switch your intestines around after cutting out a large portion of your stomach. Less chance or little at all of dumping syndrome. But 98% effective of curing diabetes numero dos! sry practicing my spanish latley. But this is all what i got from my doctor. It is more invasive then the sleeve. But It seems better to me than the bypass. It is a surgery that can cause malabsortion tho.
  13. I'm getting a revision surgery done on April 30th. Who else has had this done & what tips can you give me.

    Exercise

I'm sure after the surgery you should be up and walking as much as possible, but about how long until you can do something like jogging again? With my tummy tuck it was 6 weeks but I'm not sure whether a tummy tuck is a better or worse surgery than a revision...

    Please help me

I am 3 weeks out gastric bypass and I had too much to eat and I ate the wrong things. I cannot seem to control myself. What’s wrong with me ?
  16. I'll let you know soon! I'm having my band revised to RNY on the 15th!
  17. I just had my revision 12 days ago. I am down 24 pounds since pre op diet started on 8/15. Ive lost 8 pounds post op. It was a rough go after surgery but I had extensive scarring from my band failure. I am 10000% happy with my rny so far. I was nervous and thought to back out but I am so happy to be on my new journey

    September 10 - Tijuana

I have scheduled my Revision surgery (Sept. 10) with Dr. Ortiz and Obesity Control Center in Tijuana. His clinic has designated as an ICE (International Center of Excellence). Dr. Ortiz was selected by Newsweek Magazine as one of the top Bariatric surgeons in America. I had my lapband done with Dr. Ortiz in 2007... and was completely impressed with him and his center. My Mom went with me (she's a nurse) and she was blown away by their professionalism and first class operation. Unfortunately, the Lapband didn't work for me... so, I am choosing to have the Revision surgery to Vertical Sleeve with Dr. Ortiz also. Every question that I have asked has been answered in a timely and understandable manner. I researched and researched... and have decided to stick with Dr. Ortiz and Obesity Control Center. They might be a little more expensive than some other surgeons... but, I believe he is worth every penny. Good luck to all and I hope to meet some of you in Tijuana! Cheers, Dottie

    WLS on TV

I don't know if it will be on nationally or just here in Houston, but the PBS channel here in Houston will be airing a half-hour program on WLS tonight at 9:00 Central Daylight Time. It will probably be just like all the others - focusing on bypass and on the negative. But I'm still going to watch it. Nancy

Can we eat certain foods post op

Sure. There will be little you CAN'T eat. The question is always gonna be "SHOULD" you eat it? I do a lower fat version of low carb. After my bypass surgery, I have a hard time with very fatty meals/foods. Steak does just fine with me. Love it. I can handle about 2oz of sausage if it isn't greasy and about 1oz of salami, but have to be careful with the cheese cuz it not only stops me up, but makes me hurl.

    New; not so new

I have the lap band and am getting gastric bypass. They said that the lap band removal was denied because of the insurance coding. Something about having 2 procedures at once. It's been almost a month since it was appealed. I'm hoping this week I get an approval.
  22. I had bypass surgery in June 2010... until March 2015 everything was well and I kept what I had lost. Since then I have been gaining weight and so far I have gained a little over half of what I first lost. Pleaseeeeee help me get down again, anyone has a good diet or something that can help me. Has anyone had the same problem?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeve to Bypass

Everyone is different. Not all foods that bother one will bother another. I had the revision 7 months ago and I am able to tolerate every food I have tried under the sun. Dairy bothers me sometimes but only straight milk. The revision for me was fine, no complications. I lost weight at a faster rate but now I have stalled for quite some weeks. But I am also working out more and weight lifting.
  24. Hi [emoji112] did you have the sleeve? I will be at a year next month and the same thing has happened to me. Only about 50 lbs lost. I feel like such a failure [emoji21] despite doing everything right. I go back to see my doctor because my nurse said sometimes a revision has to be done when the sleeve is not successful. I lost almost 50 lbs on my own prior to surgery. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  25. Hi, I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Tatiana or Ty. I got a Lapband in June 2008 and lost 50lbs. But I could never get in that green zone and my band was always too loose or too tight and I got sick A LOT. I ended up gaining all my weight back plus some and started getting chest pain and nose bleeds from vomiting so much. After 4 years of struggling with the band I finally made that phone call that I hope will change my life forever. Right now I am 3 days away from getting my Lapband revised to a RNY gastric bypass and I'm not gonna lie, I'm terrified. I want to do this, I need to, but the risks scare me and permanency of it scares me as well. I'm taking something that's working perfectly fine and choosing rip it up. I just want to know that I'll still be me after surgery. That I won't feel like I've had my insides rearranged. I don't know, I just want to know if I'll feel "normal" after surgery. That's the scary part for me. All the changes in diet and excercise and vitamins I can handle, I feel like I've been there before but I've just got to amp it up this time around. From what I understand the pain will be worse this time, and recovery will be longer, but the success rate is greater. Anyway, just wanted to express my thoughts as I sit here trying to mentally and physically prepare myself for Tuesday. Thanks.
