Aaargh! Moved, Got Broke, No Protein Shakes, And Gained 5 Labs Back! Wwjd?!

Inversion Table
I don't know what that is?

Going Backwards
Everynow and then I'll shoot up 3 or 4 pounds. I know that I haven't over eaten enough to do that anyway. I ate Chinese food the other night... and not much. maybe 3/4 cup. sure enough the next morning I was up 3 pounds. It was gone in a day or two. I count calories - cuz seriously, you eat more than you think if you are not logging everything. It really helps to see what you are poking in you mouth. Makes you think twice, that's for sure.

Carb-Aholics, Please Come In.
Your scared your different from the rest of us.... and really, we all have the same concerns and struggles. I didn't now how I would ever EVER give up sweets. I thought for sure I would fail because of it. It wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, there have been challenges along the way, and I've eating my share of "treats" but with every pound I lose it motivates me to carry on. I don't believe in complete deprivation. I still have bread, Pasta, rice and a treat every now and then. But honestly... I don't crave any of those things like I used to. Learn about the band and how it works.... use it as it was meant to be used and you will do great. Best of Luck to you!

Band Slip?
Well, I think typically with a slip (altho I've never had one) you have trouble eating and drinking and keeping anything down. Also a lot of acid reflux. Altho.... like anything else, I'm sure it can be different for everyone.

What Is Your Game Plan For The Holidays?
I'm having dessert! I try really hard to watch what I eat during the Holiday season, I log my food, go to the gym and try to stay within my calorie limit. But Thanksgiving Dinner and Christmas Eve Supper and Christmas Day... I eat what I want to eat. I don't stuff myself to the point of being misserable.... I'd just throw up, but I enjoy the day!

Vetrrans, Guru's, Experienced Lap Banders!! Help!
Sounds to me like you are too tight. To tight and not being able to eat solids leads to lots of liquids. And when you consume a lot of liquids you dont feel like you are eating much so you have a little more. Liquids add up fast calorie wise. If you are able to eat solid protiens it curbs your hunger and keeps you satisfied for longer not to mention.... it's just plain healthier. To tight can lead to band slippage. Constult your Dr.

Sliming

What Veggies Do You Puree?
Carrots wouldn't be too bad. And now they "mash" cauliflower all the time as a side dish. I love cauliflower but mashed doesn't really apeal to me. OH how I hated that pureed stage. Lets just say I ate a LOT of yogurt and cottage cheese. Good Luck.!

Sliming
Sliming gernerally occurs when you get food stuck. Your body starts to produce saliva.... oh lets be honest, it's not saliva, it's slime. Thick, rope like slime. Anyway your body starts to produce this slime to help coax the food thru your band. It will either help the food go thru or you will fill up with slime, and you will have to get rid of it. Usually by throwing up but I have slimed so bad in the past that all i have to do is lean over the toilet and it kind of just starts to come out. It is some crazy $*it!

Hmm.. Is This Normal?
Ya, sounds normal. My port area was super tender and took a long......long time to heal. Congrats on being banded!

Tight
This is kind of a touchy subject because there are those of us who don't believe in being too tight and those who love being really tight. I think liquids are fine for a few days, see if you loosen up a little. When you eat are you eating really small bites (dime size) and taking your time between bites? But, if it doesn't change I say go in for a slight unfill. You need to be able to eat because PBing and throwing up can lead to complications and band slippage. You can also consume a lot more calories in liquid. Also, it's just not healthy (in my opinion). I can eat most anything, I have no problems with any protien, bread, Pasta,... I don't eat a lot of things that are unhealthy except on rare occassions because I know that a diet with lots of these things is not going to be productive but when I want a slice of pizza... I can have one. I think if I could not eat solid food I would induldge in things like yogurt and icecream and anything that went down easy and really never be satisfied. The band should supply restriction but it is also there to help create satiety. Listen to your body, glad you called your doc. Best of Luck

Starting To Have Second Thoughts
I have lost 157 pound. I eat bread, Pasta and pizza.... not often or nearly as much as I'd like to but I eat it. I don't have a problem with it if I eat slow and chew good and don't over eat it. I can eat a slice of pizza and get full and satisfied just exactly like I did eating 3/4 of an entire pie! Pasta was my favorite thing in the world. I eat it still, but it fills me up fast. Here's what I think, and this is just my opinion. You still have to be able to eat. You can't deprive yourself of everything or you are going to compensate in other ways... (slider foods). I have great restriction but I am not so tight I can't eat things. It still takes a lot of willpower or wantpower. I don't feel deprived of anything. NOTHING! So yes, if you get the band so tight that you can't eat these things then you won't be able to eat them but if you get good healthy restiction and really become mindful of what you are eating, and really eat healthy with occasional treats like pizza or pasta or even a cookie... you will be successful. The best thing I do is log my food. It has made me very very accountable for what I eat and has helped me greatly. When you chow down on something high in calories it stares you right back in the face. Also exercise is key! My dr told me that a lot of people lose 50 or 100 pound and that's where it stops. Not because they can't lose more but because they think "wow, I've done so good" or "gee... I've lost 50 pounds I can eat this" and it just gets out of hand and you go back to your old ways. You have to stick to it, don't give up. I thought it would be so hard and it has been yet when I think about it... this isn't that hard. YOu have to eat healthy and exercise. You have to make changes for life, not just for now. I was scared for all the same reasons. Your dr. in my opinion.... should not have said what he did. He's wrong... there are many many people on this site that can prove that. Take a deep breath, its scarey but so so worth it. Every pound you lose will inspire you! Best of Luck! Teresa

Confused!?!?
Oh. dont forget the 45 cal fudge bars. mmmmmmm
-
Confused!?!?
ahhhh yes... ice cream. I have a theory, if it's 100 calories or less.... its a good snack. There are lots of 100 cal ice cream treats, I think weight watchers are the best. LOVE their dark chocolate raspberry ice cream bar and love their mint chocolate chip ice cream cup. Also their cookies and cream ice cream bar - that might be 140 cal. (can't remember) Anyway... I love ice cream. Have not bought any regular icecream since my surgery... now I eat the ones mentioned above. The trick is to have just one!
