Psych Evaluation
I had a series of True/False questions There were 2 tests one was 200 questions and 1 was 3 hundred questions. They were done on computer. Once I finished these tests they printed them out. ABout 10 minutes later I met with the Psych Dr. He was very nice and put me at ease very quickly. He wants to hear from you making sure you know the details of what will be done during surgery. He also wants to know you expectations for surgery. Basically they are looking for any unrealistic expectations example..You want to lose weight to save you marriage etc.. There are no right or wrong questions on the tests that I took. Some of the questions will have you cracking up. I stressed about the exam too, I think that is just normal. The entire process for me took 3 hours. I have BC/BS also...Best of luck to you.

Word of Warning....
While you are in the process of waiting for your Lap Band try out several different kinds of protein shakes. I have found multiple protein shakes that I like. There is the neatest site called Bariatric Pantry. You can choose several varieties of protein shakes. A friend of mine recommended Nectar which is a whey protein shake in many different flavors. I tried my first whey shake was very tasty and the flavor was fuzzy navel....Within 4 minutes I started itching all over and my throat began to swell..I have alot of allergies and I guess this is just added to the list..Liquid Benedryl cured my itching and swelling...I still would endorse this particular protein because it gives you so much variety...BUT I am so thankful that I gave this particular brand a trial run...I would have hated to have came home from surgery and had this reaction...Best of luck to everyone.

Going through the process as a teen
I am proud of you! Taking control of your life and having a plan for your health is awesome. Surround yourself with positive people now. 6 months is just a short amount of time. Find yourself a good primary care Dr. no and begin a medically supervised diet. Some insurance companies require that. You will be ahead of the process. Best of luck to you!

7 weeks post-op!
Congratulations! I cannot wait to join the ranks...

can anyone help me?
Just a thought...Have you tried an ENT (Ear Nose and Throat.) It may be possible that you have developed a sinus infection. Also having being banded, you may have gastric reflus that is coupling with this issue. An ENT can do a quick look in his office and possible get a sample to perform a culture and sensitivity. Alot of the meds you are taking are dryind agents..you actully need something to loosen up your secretions. Drink lots of water as this helps with the thinning process and seek help fro, a qualified ENT...Best of luck to you!

How do I deal with my friend???
The conversation would put up several red flags for me...first if you are settled on your decision then do not allow anyone to change your mind...does your friend just want you to be like her? If she has not had a lap band how does she know it will not work? My brother has Gastric Bypass and did very well, but he was the exact opposite with his feelings about my weight loss journey. He encouraged me to research for myself the differences in RNY and Lap Band. Search your heart and do what is best for you. I would tell your friend that life is about choices and that this is the choice that you have made for yourself. My Granny had a saying.."Negativity breeds negativity...do not let yourself be brought down by your friend. Friends should encourage each other....Best wishes to you.

Looking for September 2010 Bandsters
Let me say congratulations! I was a smoker and quit 5 years ago cold turkey...I am not sure if this is the best advice, but it was right for me. Smoking complicates the healing process and also can cause ulcers. I can only speak for my Doc. He will not allow anyone to have the surgery unless you have quit smoking and have been quit for at least 30 days. I wish you the absolute best as you being this awesome journey. Jill
