This band is going to cost us a fortune...
Congrats on your weight loss!! That is truly wonderful. I was banded on 7.21.10, so about 3 months in and have lost 33.5 lbs. For the last 6 weeks or so am just bouncing up and down 2 or 3 lbs and it is so frustrating. I work out every day and eat right. Any advice to get it moving again? Thanks Kim

Looking for a buddy- ANYWHERE!

Banded and feeling sad?
You are not alone with feeling sad or emotional. I was recently banded on 7/21 and it might sound crazy but I was scared of changing bcs I have been the same size for about 20 years. The first morning that I woke up, I thought oh my gosh, did I really do this? It is a life changing process and I think if you weren't feeling a little anxious, sad or emotional about changing not only your size but who you are as a result of it, that wouldn't be normal. Hang in there... Good luck to you.

July banders-work together
Hi everyone. I was banded 7/21 and have been on solids for about a week now. I have been walking a miniumum of a mile a day and have lost 25 lbs. I am having my first PMS since the surgery and am getting hungry a lot faster. I have an appt for a fill tomorrow 8/18 and am worried that they won't agree to give me one with the good weight loss, but it has slowed this last couple of weeks like crazy. What do they go by to decide? If I am hungry all the time is that enough? Also, are you supposed to fast? They didn't tell me anything...

How can I get more protein?
GNC sells some protein mixes that have more protein grams in them than what I bought from my doctor. The one I recall is called WHEY. They taste pretty good to. Right now I am using Syntha 6 from GNC and it is good and has a lot of protein as well. There really isn't much more you can do while on soft foods. Hang in there.

Are You Telling People?
I feel quite the opposite. The more people around me that I have told; the more support I have gained. It keeps me accountable and I find that I want to really keep it up because everyone does know about it. If you feel good about what you have done; why be ashamed? Use it to your benefit by sharing...

Why can't I use a straw?
I had a whole lot of trouble in the beginning with the trapped gas pains and was told to avoid not only using a straw, but chewing gum. It causes you to swallow a lot more air that can cause problems.

Dr. couldnt find port site at last fill appointment

Dr. couldnt find port site at last fill appointment
Carlie, so sorry to hear that. I was just banded on 7/21 and picked up a friend who had the same surgery today and talked to the surgeon about when to get a fill and he said when you are getting hungry and start gaining or don't lose for a period of time. When they cannot locate the port, they do an x-ray, but would never send you home. I would call and speak to someone. That just doesn't seem like good service to me. Everyone in our positions need to see a loss to stay motivated. Stay on them about it.. I wouldn't wait 2 months. Good luck and keep us posted.

What can we do about post op burping?
I was banded 7/21 and had a lot of burping as well. Eating ice and chewing gum cause you to swallow air. I used the gas x strips the max times per day. The burping and gas seem to subside within 7-8 days of surgery. If you have gas trapped as well, walking is the best thing and helped mine within a couple of days. Good luck to all of you.

Frustrated and feel like I'm on a "diet"!
I was only banded 7/21 and just started on food. I can only share what my doc suggested to stay on track and continue losing. Divide your meals into protein, veggies and carbs. Start on the protein until you have finished and if still hungry, move on to the veggie and they said you would rarely make it to the carb if you stop when your full. Sounds good anyway. I understand what your saying about the "diet" thing. I guess what we have to keep in mind is that this is only a tool and it will work if we use it properly. I wish you luck and hope you find a balance to start losing again.

need help, everything is wrong...
I live in Dallas and used "True Results" who has 4 locations around Texas. They are an awesome and supportive group. As for the Spasm in the Esophogus, my daughter had the surgery with me on 7/21 and she had that to. They removed the saline from her band for now, but told her to resolve the issues, need to drink something each day as warm as you can stand it and it relaxes the muscles in the throat and opens them up. Give it a try... Good luck.

Port Pain at 1 week Post Op
Amanda, my gosh congrats on your terrific weight loss. That is so encouraging to us newbies. I was banded 7/21/10 and still have port pain. I have been told by my doc's office that it is typical to be sore for months bcs it is connected to a muscle. They told me ice 15 min off and 15 min on whenever you can will help.

What are you most looking forward to after banding?
Amanda, What a wonderful topic!!! **Rid my body of Diabetes **Being healthy, energetic and enjoying life **Crossing my legs **Not worrying about whether or not I will fit in a booth at a restaurant. **Feeling confident **Finding a man who to share my life with. **Look forward to living a long life.

Coke drinking poll
Hi Heather... My doc says NO to all carbonation; as the bubbles will stretch out the pouch (banded area). Not worth the risk to me. I turned to Crystal Lite and Diet Liption Tea.

Feeling Discouraged :(
Amy, my 18 yr old was banded with me (mom) on the same day and her biggest issue in feeling weak and bad is that she is not drinking the protein shakes. I went to GNC and purchased the chocolate Syntha 6 Protein powder and mix it with skim milk and it is pretty good stuff. If you drink 3 per day, one before you leave the house and at lunch and dinner you will feel so much better. During the 14 days, start walking, eat yogurt, sugar free pudding and some broth and you will make it thru. With your busy schedule, carry a jar of bouilon cubes to go in hot water for your broth. This helps with the hunger and tastes really good when you have had nothing else. Hope this helps ya..

Need some help-1 week out..
Hi Nicole. I had surgery on 7/21. I agree with the other members comments, do the Protein shakes. They really do help you feel full and will give you energy. I actually bought some powder at GNC, Syntha 6 that is much better. I wold recommend sticking with the diet that they have proposed, especially if you have already had some issues. While it seems like a long time, it really goes by quickly. If you walk, you will lose pretty fast. During the 14 days, I did 3 shakes per day; yogurt, broth and sugar free pudding. The drinking shouldn't apply while you are on this stage. The reason for the drinking rule when you start on soft foods is that when you eat, your food needs to stay in your "pouch" for 2 minutes for a signal to be sent to your brain that you are full and if you are drinking vs sipping, you will wash the food down and the 2 min starts over and you will eat more... Hope this helps. GOOD LUCK.

Had Surg Friday and need help with pain??
Klisa, the protein shakes are the best way to maintain not only the protein, but vitamins. I chew a vitamin a day as well. I was banded 7/21 and wow what a lot to go thru in such a short period of time. It is hard to feel well nourished when your taking in liquids, but the shakes give you energy and should help until you can start eating. Good luck to you.

Had Surg Friday and need help with pain??
I did the same thing.. I thought, what have I done to myself. I was banded 7/21 and about 7 days later started feeling 100% better. The gas will subside and you will feel better soon.

Had Surg Friday and need help with pain??
Hi there. I was banded 7/21 and went thru all of those horrible gas pains. I was taking about 3 diff gas relief pills per day, but what really helped was walking. I read it all over this site and just made myself start walking around the block. Take it slow. It started subsidinig within 2 days of walking and I was so grateful. Your right about the pain lying down and then getting up. The gas moves around the most when going from one position to the next. I did not have the pain after eating or drinking so might want to call and ask your doc's office about that. Could also be the gas. Good luck. I started walking in the house as well, but seemed to get better when I got outside and hit it a little harder.
