Feeling Shaky
How about the rest of you nurses. How much time off and did you go back full speed. I'm scared.

Feeling Shaky
Joonbug, I too am a nurse on a very busy unit and also work 12 hour shifts. How much time are you taking off? Are you going back to twelvers or cutting back initially? I'm afraid to go back to early. I won't be allowed to slack at all. Our manager is a bulldog.

Weight loss prior to fills
Seems I'm reading posts that state some banders have lost minimal weight prior to their fills. I don't understand how you can be hungry with a small pouch. Does the food just go through and you can keep eating including the kinds of food that are high in fat, sugar, carbs etc? I think it would be really discouraging post op. Can you share your experience? Thanks K

I'm torn about telling
Thanks all. It may come out eventually, I'm just not ready to "talk and tell":tt2:

I'm torn about telling
I am a registered nurse who will be banded sometime in October. I'm being selective on who I am telling, only close friends, my sister, niece and sister-in-law. Not mother or mother-in-law (they would drive me crazy with questions and concern. I couldn't take it!) My dilemma is my co-workers. A couple of nurse colleagues have had bariatirc and were very open. I on the other hand am more private. Co-workers are going to know without a doubt due to my pre and post diets along with absence from work and weight loss. Should I just get it over with and send an email the day before or endure answering questions later? For the most part we are a supportive staff, however, many are very health conscious and will judge me that's for certain.

Am I Kidding Myself?
Congratulations. That is just awesome!

Am I Kidding Myself?
Thanks for responding gingerjane. I don't really understand why a person doesn't lose alot at first since eating is so restricted with liquids, puree, soft etc. Is it because there have not been any fills and so you eat more? Is it because your body is holding on to fat since it is in starvation mode?

Am I Kidding Myself?
If all stays on track, I should be banded in early October. I have a wonderful 11 day cruise vacation planned with my sister 1/3/11. I can't even tell you how much I would like to lose weight prior to our trip. How possible will this be since I will only be 3 months post-op prior to the trip and only a couple of fills will have occurred? Is 30 lbs out of the question if I eat as designed and exercise? I am required to do a 10 day pre-op with Carnation Instant Breakfast only. I suspect this may get the ball rolling. I am starting to panic:scared2: My sister has had bariatric 3 years ago and looks wonderful. I would hate to feel like a fat pig and not enjoy myself due to feeling self conscious and unattractive:crying:

Maintaining BMI Presurgery
Knocked 3 appts off today, 5 more to go. Not a slam dunk process that's for sure. My BMI came in @ 40.7 today which is on the line for lapband according to this facility. I was encouraged to start an exercise program now, vitamins, increase h20 intake etc. I'm wondering if my BMI creeps down, could I disqualiy myself. Surgery will take place sometime early October. I would just cry if I came up a 38 or 39 and was told no:scared2:

Eating like a horse
Now that I am moving full speed ahead with banding, I am eating constantly. It' not like I didn't, before its just increased. Anyone else do this prior to surgery?

Hello
- The Journey Begins 8/13!/Day Surgery??/Time off?
Best wishes to you!!- My first Seminar for the Band today
You will be "pumped" after the seminar and will want to make it happen asap. I am 3 weeks out from seminar and have 3 appointments tomorrow! Best wishes!- The Journey Begins 8/13!/Day Surgery??/Time off?
Thank's Katie for your response. I work at least 2/12 hour shifts and an 8 hour each week and have some concerns about returning full speed. It's so busy and we are cut little to no slack. I will have to talk with my surgeon. I am not sharing any of this with my co-workers or supervisor (it's not of their business), however they will expect me to function at top speed. How will I manage this?- The Journey Begins 8/13!/Day Surgery??/Time off?
Friday I will meet with the nurse clinician, have blood drawn, EKG MMPI etc. I am excited and apprehensive at the same time. Bariatrics at the clinic/hospital I go to have started doing lapband in 1 day surgery (you go home same day). Has anyone out there had this experience and would you recommend it? Also, I am a RN in a very busy unit. Can you give me guidelines on when I could anticipate returning to work. It can be a physically and mentally demanding job. Thanks:unsure:- How many pounds lost = a dress size?
Weight Watchers leader preached 10lb = 1 size. Sounds about right.- Bloating and Gas
I'm the queen of gas and bloating. I do have IBS with constipation (especially when I'm stressed). Can any of you who were or are cursed with the mentioned symptoms comment on how you are doing after banding? Thanks so much to all of you for your kindness and sensible advice. Katie T- Does the cellulite hang around
I have very heavy legs and upper arms that are full of cellulite and jiggley. Does the cellulite disappear with weight loss? It's not minor cellulite, it's terrible.- Emotional Eater
How do those of you who are emotional eaters manage this post surgery? I eat when I'm tired, happy, sad, stressed, bored and as a reward etc. I am determined to beat this and am looking for help big time. Thanks in advance:unsure:- Help me understand??
So true. I fall into the emotional eater category hands down. I am hoping once I get started and cut the crap out of my diet, the desire for sugar and fat will decrease also. Thanks for the reply. Exactly what I needed to hear.- Help me understand??
I realize it takes hard work to achieve your goal of weight loss and a healthier life. Here's what I don't understand. If you are banded, how can you gain and or not lose weight when your new sized stomach (I hate the word pouch) can only hold so much? Eating one cup of food 3 X daily is a 1/3 of what I eat now. Thanks much - The Journey Begins 8/13!/Day Surgery??/Time off?
