  1. I'm reading your post and thinking...DANG! How did she eat a 12 incher???? then I saw you weren't banded...ahhhhhhhh okay. Now I get it. I too have snuck food. Don't sweat it, that will change. You will see the day when the kiddy teriyake would have done the trick and you would feel FULL. That's the difference being banded. You can feel full and actually not 'take another bite' you're so stuffed. And what a cool place that is.
  2. Read the What You Ate Today thread. Lots of good ideas. At your phase I was eating Toddler Phase baby food (not bad actually) The Protein drinks are awesome.
  3. If you have a yeast infection the doctor can prescribe cream for you. Such was my case. I avoid that by using special soaps. I can recommend brands: Bath and Body Works, Crabtree and Evelyn. Luck.
  4. Dang. All you had to say was the Auntie Anne pretzel and I was there. omg...ahhhhhhh. You learned didn't you. (smiles) I applaud you for staying with it that long. I myself bolted from my house to the backyard and like my cat, I hacked up the slime all around the yard. *you have to understand my husband has a really warped sense of humor* and he's observing me from the patio window making sure I don't go down. The dog is staring, the cats are at the window wondering what happened to mommy. Nevermore. At that time it was stir fried rice. Nevermore. Another time it was spaghetti. Nevermore. Next time if you can, get something warm like tea and sip swallow. The best way to avoid a PB is to recognize that chest feeling and know that it hasn't gone down yet. Putting more food in is exactly like flushing the toilet when it's clogged. (there's a visual for ya) Luck.
  5. Jack's given you some great advice here. I switch to Liquid Protein only, assuring my body 80 grams of protein. I drink loads of water and take my Vitamins. Keep away from the pantry. I look at myself like a drunk. I can get off the wagon. Getting back on is the trick.
  6. Hi mamabear: I can relate. I've worked 18 years in the public schools and they are notorious for using acronyms. It happens here too. Here's the low down on what you will see: PB or a Productive Burp- You know when you eat too much and have a burp that has something with it? That's a 'productive burp'. With the band, it comes along with what I call the cat hack. If you eat slowly, take small bites, introduce foods gradually to see if you can tolerate them first before take more than one bite. Otherwise you might have a PB. You also have slimey saliva which is more like kid's "GAK" remember that?? Like that.
  7. You know we all have our muse. Be it a cocktail, favorite vino, brewski or in my case...chocolate. Oh, don't get me wrong, not just any old chocolate, no..mine has to be the expensive import fused with orange. If I still smoked, this would be equal to a fresh pack, just packed and cracked, first light puff. But I quit smoking some 15 years ago and now I can't handle the intoxicating second hand stuff. As for alcohol, I really love rum but the bite is too much now. Seems I am more sensative to it than I use to be. As with all things now, my "want it" and my "tried it and it didn't taste as good as I thought" kicked in.
  8. SWEET! I'm calling my cable company to see if we get FIT TV. I have wanted to learn how to Belly Dance but am too embarrassed at my size and with my big belly (which is where I carry most of my weight). To top it off, the local teacher I have seen in the newspapers is a sweet girl I use to work with some 25 years ago. Her family is Greek and she is absolutely gorgeous. I would love to take her class. Why do I make excuses for the times I cannot until the times I can and it is all fat related???? ahhhhhh.
  9. Water should have been used throughout the process of your fill. My doctor has me sip while sitting up with the needle still there and adjusts accordingly. If this was done during your fill and water was going down fine you may have something else going on. It is not normal to not be able to drink water. I concur, call your doc in the morning and get in there ASAP.
  10. By Sally Wadyka You walk by your colleague's desk and there's that candy bowl, singing its siren song, You know better, but you just can't resist. Little detours like these can derail the best eating intentions, and the disparity between what Americans want to do and what we actually do is enormous: While 85% percent say that diet and nutrition are important to them, a 2002 report reveals that only 11 percent get the recommended daily allowance of fruits and vegetables (sorry gummy bears don't count.) So whether you're an all-day nibbler or a Breakfast skipper, try these expert strategies to transform the way you eat. "My greatest delight is to take a good bite" - Dylan Thomas, "the Song of the Mischievous Dog" How to eat healthier if… You’re a serious snacker The fallout: You may end up overeating. A healthy snack or two between meals is fine. They can keep blood sugar steady as well as allow you to rack up more servings of fruits and vegetables. “It’s when you snack in place of eating meals that you’re more likely to lose track of how much you’re eating.” Says Tara Gidus, R.D., an Orlando, Florida – based spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association. Of course, what you eat matters, too. Typical snack foods (chips, Cookies, pretzels) aren’t that nutritious or satisfying, so it’s easy to overdo them. The Fix: To keep your energy up and hunger at bay, allow yourself two Snacks a day of 100 to 300 calories each. “Rather than a cookie or a candy bar, opt for something that feels like real food—half of a small sandwich, whole-grain crackers with cheese, a handful of nuts, baby carrots with hummus, or yogurt sprinkled with Cereal,” says Gidus. You’re a speed-eater The Fallout: Gulping fod may set you up for stomach troubles (PR: or a spasm of PBing) “you take in excess air, which can lead to bloating.” Says Leslie Bonci, R.D., director of sports nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh medical Center. You also might not be chewing well. Saliva begins to break food down, and too little time in the mouth leaves more work for the rest of the digestive track. This may contribute to indigestion, says Ellie Krieger, R.D. host of the Food Network’s healthy Appetite. Finally, speed eating doesn’t give the brain time to catch up to the stomach; it needs atleast 20 minutes to get the message that your stomach is full. A recent study found that women who ate a meal in 30 minutes ate 10% fewer calories compared with those who wolfed one down in barely 10. The Fix: Try to slow down. Avoid finger foods, and instead choose items you have to put on a plate and eat with utensils, such as stir fries and salads. Pause often, and drink Water throughout meals.( PR: in the case of our fellow bandsters do not drink 30 minutes before or after your meal) You eat your way out of a bad mood The Fallout: It may be soothing in the moment, but feeding your fears and frustrations, instead of confronting them, can lead to a cycle of more bad moods as well as steady weight gain. Many people turn to carbohydrates, in particular, which produce tryptophan, a type of amino acid that is used by the brain to manufacture serotonin. When the brain makes more serotonin, your mood improves, but only temporarily, says Judith Wurtman, Ph.D., a coauthor of The Serotonin Power Diet (Rodale Books). The Fix: Stop to think about what’s bothering you before reflectively opening the cupboard. Then try a nonfood mood booster, such as taking a walk, seeing a movie, or calling a friend. If nothing but carbs will do, get the serotonin boost without triggering a binge, says Gidus. Opt for a whole-grain treat so atleast you get more Fiber and less sugar. Healthy rehabilitation ideas: “We started stocking some of the jars in our office with organic fruit instead of candy. So now I grab a plum, an orange…” “Every Sunday night I boil eggs. I eat one every day for breakfast during the week. I can eat it on the go, and it’s a good way to get some protein…” “Whenever I have party leftovers, I send them home with the guests so I can’t binge..”
  11. One Day One hour at a time if need be. With so many online meetings, it's easy to go to a meeting. Much support if you join a LOOP of yahoo group or other ogranization. This habit to break is life altering and almost woven in my DNA. Loads of reading has helped along with therapy.
  12. Happy POST SURGERY!! (guessing you will not read this until you are there) Welcome to the BAND. I hope by now you are feeling it isn't as bad as you thought, not as invasive and painful as you anticipated. Now relax, enjoy this recovery period, be kind to your body and gentle on your countenance. Nurture your way down the path to this new lifestyle. It is a change. Not just in structure but function. Welcome welcome welcome. What a beautiful place.
  13. I just posted this picture in Dr. Kirshenbaum's thread. When I began this journey, I was pushing 380. Just to SAY that I had over 200 pounds to lose was discouraging. But today, reading this post, I realized... I have LESS than 200 pounds to lose >200 to lose!!!! I have a ways to go but I feel soooo good.
  14. Nina thanks for posting this. I am not beyond going elsewhere for surgery. (flew to Colorado from Florida for my band) I am planning on breast lift then tummy OVERHAUL. The rest of me isn't so bad even big. Interesting read about the quilt like stitching.
  15. Mine's not infected, never has been. Weighing the options...hmmmm, be continuously fat with high blood pressure, backaches, leg pain, diabetes, limited mobility Or continue to lose weight, have restriction and be able to eat like normal people to my goal weight where I can once again resume a healthy and active lifestyle with a miniscule risk of maybe something going wrong post surgery. It was an easy choice for me.
  16. Yes. I cramped for about six weeks. Nothing I doubled over with just a change in body patterns. If you feel like it's too much, call the doctor.
  17. Most of my close pals know I've had the surgery. My problem is I order too much. Consider take home boxes next time. It gives you another meal or a protein nibbler if you are feeling a bit hungry.
  18. Congrats!!! Sounds like you are healing fast. Metamucil is something I add to my Water, just a teaspoon every other day. Rest, read here. JUMP FORUM is at the bottom of the page; Drop the arrow and see all the topics. You can pick any subject and find a thread started.
  19. Glad to share with you. Look for my PM.
  20. RIP Marcel. What a great pet. (and friend) Marcel looks like the color opposite of my BOO. It sounds like Marcel was a wonderful wonderful companion. Do you have room in your heart for another shelter pet? They so desperately need homes and there is probably another one right now waiting to be given the chance. In my house we have four cats: Boo, Maybelline, Violet and Pentunia. Petunia is Violet's 5 month old who is still nursing because she can't leave the nest (laughs) We have a dog too, ED. Edgar is wonderful. He's been the best dog and has his own spots around the house that are HIS sleeping spots. Great story.
  21. Wow. (super tiny Chinese woman...ha ha..funny) My mother-in-law has been supportive by simply not judging, not asking about emotional things. She's very good at not prying. My husband's family have all been so wonderful. If I was rich I'd take them all on a cruise.
  22. Hey, you got a necklace out of it!! I think the first knee jerk reaction is to say "another woman". I wouldn't necessarily say he's a player but on the other hand it sounds like he's kind of stringing things along with you and if he thinks something flashy catches his eye suddenly you need to slow down (but you thought it was a good idea too so maybe he's not so much 'the one' for you). NEXT. That's what I use to tell my daughter when she had boyfriend troubles...NEXT. Be REAL picky about who you date. You are picking the person who is the potential father of your children, life partner with you in sickness and health...be real picky. Best of luck to you.
  23. With a name like "manatee" you must be a Floridian! (smiling) I LOVE your first sentence: "Pain is weakness leaving the body." Thanks for sharing that. ......................................................................... Shannon that you for the link to jazzercise. That looks like something more for me (down the road). FLW- I did situps in my bed last night. I made myself move watching television, breathing deep, focusing on the muscle tightening going on in my stomach and keeping an eye on the clock. So far I am keeping up with my comittment to exercise!
  24. AMEN! ................................................... Your thread (Viredesence) hits a raw nerve with me. You could cut the air when the subject of weight comes up around my sister-mother. They are so much alike it is sister-mother/one unit. All under the guise that they "care about you". Without hijacking this thread and telling about my experience I would only advise you to save yourself the hurt and do NOT tell them. If they can't support you as fat, how on earth could we ever expect them to support us in any other way? Gain your strength from this place where so many know your story, walk it, and can let you vent and offer advice...true support. I feel for you. I understand. I have the same situation. Be well. Be strong.
  25. YES! YESYESYESYES! ......................... I would not take back the life I use to live if money was added. I can walk and breath. I can stand up and the pain is so much less. I have ENERGY. I have HOPE. RISKS: Anytime you have surgery there is a risk. When you have your wisdom teeth extracted there is a risk. It's just part of the process and to not inform you of risks is irresponsible. But I compare this to driving a car. When you buy a car there are risks. The brakes can go bad, someone could rear-end you, you can run out of gas...YOU are responsible for driving the car carefully and taking care of the breaks and adding the gas. Same with the band. You are responsible for following the lifestyle that having a Lap-Band inside you requires. Don't gulp large amounts of food, don't blender Cookies and ice cream with chocolate syrup and drink it and expect to lose weight. But people do this and then complain they aren't losing weight. Maybe they think because it is liquid it doesn't have calories... but I'm rambling. The band is one of the best things that came into my life. I do not regret EVER having it done. I am a changed person for it and I am changed for the better. You must do what you believe is right for you. Moreso than anything else. You are in charge of your body. Best of luck to you!!
