  1. Ah chicken....I miss you most days. I often go for the dark meat now as it's more moist.
  2. This is the most crucial time to follow your doctor's orders as you're just healing and I'm sure you're on a liquid diet. It's probably gas; get up and walk around a little (it does help). YOu could try Gas-X strips also (they just dissolve on your tongue).
  3. I have issues with eggs since banding; they're not the easiest for me to digest. I would wait a bit longer before trying them again. As to the "stuck throat" feeling, I'm sorry I can't help there!
  4. Why would you be a mess? You're going to be fabulous! And as mentioned, if you do get your period, your lovely pain meds will certainly help you with those cramps! Good luck!
  5. I would say if you need to eat something, have a little lean protein. It will stay with you longer than the cracker.
  6. Mis73 - I was told bites of protein should be the size of a pencil eraser (or fingernail!)!
  7. To me that sounds like slime....from getting mildly stuck. The first couple of times it happened to me, when I coughed a big blob of stuff came up. Sooo gross! It sounds almost like you have a cough from being sick. I do have allergies also and haven't quite figured out if they contribute to band tightness or not. When I take an allergy med it doesn't really seem to help with the slime (but I can breathe better through my nose, which does help at times). Can you take a Reactine or something daily for now while it's bad allergy season?
  8. Remembering back, that day I was pretty out of it. My surgery was first thing in the morning and I was home by noon. I slept most of the afternoon, up around dinner time. Of course I couldn't eat, and had some pain from the surgery. But I didn't have an important event to go to either....for something like that I probably would have made it through! (fyi if that's anything like a graduation it will be much longer than an hour!). Hope you can coordinate everything!
  9. You just could be one of the people who need .5 cc or less per fill. I hope you find some relief. Stick to liquids for a day or two, and as mentioned warm liquids help "prime" the band a bit (just relax it).
  10. To the OP - please, girl, don't stress about that! We need to live in a way we can sustain for the rest of our lives. If that means having some wine now and then, so be it! You just need to account for the calories and drink some extra water that day. Life is for living!!
  11. Being tired doesn't necessarily relate to having a fill. As mentioned if you're on liquids for a day, you're probably not getting enough nutrition so it could be part of it. Wait until you get back to your normal eating and don't stress. Watch the tightness; if you can't get your solids down you could be too tight. Good luck!
  12. Hey there! I was banded at Slimband in August 2010. I live in the Kitchener area currently and get my fills done there when I need them. PM me if you have any questions!
  13. I would think staying out of the water would depend on how your incisions are healing; I would check with your doc about that. I do find it more challenging eating out but you can do it if you plan ahead, and I would bring some snacks that travel well so you don't always have to eat fast food.
  14. I would suggest taking at least a few days off of work. Most people generally need a week to recuperate. The number of fills all depends on the person; each person is different. I think also it depends on your doctor if you are outpatient or have to stay over a night. I was self pay, so I didn't have to worry about insurance. There are a lot of posts about insurance and waiting and what one has to do. Do a search and you may find someone with your insurance who can help you better. The way of eating you're to follow is protein, veg then carbs, and no more than half to one cup per meal (depends on your doctor; also if you should have snacks or not). I think the above poster means protein shakes; often your insurance/doctor will make you do a pre-op liquid diet beforehand (maybe check with your insurance to see; some people have to do a 6 month supervised diet I've read). Hope this helps!
  15. Yes, you can (so I've been told). However, as with any weight loss plan you have to eat the right foods. Protein first, then veg, then some carbs is the "right way". But I find, as with life, sometimes things don't work out that way. Going out to eat, for example. And I have found certain things for me just don't work, like deep fried foods (bye bye calamari!) and doughy breads. The band is just a tool and we have to work it properly!
  16. I have a 10cc band, with 5 ccs in it. Some days that seems like not enough; other days (like today) it seems like too much!
  17. Yep, I have. No issues. They make chewable ones now so I would stick with those if you have issues with pills.
  18. My doc says one day liquid, one day mushies. As for the amount of fills, everyone is different! It doesn't mean anything bad if you need 10 fills to get to the right levels, or only two.
  19. Yes, soup is easier because it's liquid and just slides in. However, to truly utilize our bands, we have to get used to eating and really chewing the solids, to give us nutrition and keep us full for longer. It's definitely an adjustment but I think you'll find it'll really help the hunger and the weight loss!
  20. This is so me! Lol. I had a defill of .25 because I couldn't even drink my coffee in the morning, and I was going on vacation and on a plane for the first time since being banded (worried about getting too tight on the flight). So that was fine....but when I came back & got back to my routine, I'm too loose. So I got another fill of .25 bringing me back to where I was....and I'm not too tight! Possibly I could use another small fill. So, I have no answer as to why these things happen, but if you get that .25 put back in it doesn't necessarily mean you're too tight. Maybe you just can't take too much at once (and maybe that's me too!). As for the "green zone"....I agree it shouldn't mean you can't eat certain foods. What was said is great advice - I was told I could eat anything after banding, just the amounts would be different and I would be satiated for longer. Not necessarily the case (some foods definitely give me issues), but I do agree!
  21. The sites like Plenty of Fish and Lavalife, you get all kinds of weirdos on them because they're free sites. Of course there are some creeps on Match and E-Harmony, but a lot of the men are more serious because of the cost to join those sites. Good luck! You will find him out there!
  22. If you're having pain from those foods, you just may need to chew them more or take even smaller bites of them. However as mentioned, some foods may just be too difficult for you now. You'll have to try things and see.
  23. You shouldn't be eating at this stage, liquids only. Try some liquid gravol or something if you can't get in to your doctor; a pharmacist can probably recommend something as well.
  24. I have those feelings too....I think about food just as much as I did before. I think people are lucky if somehow their food thoughts go away after the surgery, but that didn't happen for me. And I'm sad because this hasn't been as easy as I had thought or hoped; I'm not down nearly as much as I had planned. Just be happy you're losing weight, and try to find other positive things to focus on like how long you'll be around for your children now. Feel better!
  25. Judy - sorry about your mom, but it's great you were able to spend such a nice afternoon with her. We're having our Mother's Day dinner tonight and are taking my mom to a Greek restaurant. I had a fill about 2 weeks about and only now am I noticing the tightness. I was stuck all day yesterday, even on soups. This morning, coffee. However, I wonder about my allergies....they are really bad this spring so far (the dandelions are everywhere!) so I (sorry, if TMI) wonder if I'm having a lot of mucous. I just took a Reactin so hopefully that will help.
