  1. Thats so weird that that happened to you. When I was on my 2 week liver shrinking diet, I was eating a sandwhich one night and the roof of my mouth started hurting so bad that i couldnt finish eating the sandwich. it was so weird!
  2. I had my surgery on the 21st. I am still in a good amount of pain, but that was because they had to repair a massive hiatial hernia. It is getting better every day though. As for food, I have been drinking a lot og chicken broth, either with protien or fiber mixed in. I have also been drinking a ton of crystal light and water. Congratulations on being banded, and let me know how you are doing!
  3. A lot of people have suggested gas-ex strips.
  4. I am definately experiencing the burping thing, mostly every time I stand up. For me it is pretty painful! I cannot wait to get rid of it!
  5. I had my surgery on the 21st, and the night before, i was having doubts about it, but once I got it done, I was really proud of myself for making it through the procedure. I think its normal to have doubts, especially when making such a huge decision. I was having doubts because I am going into my senior year of college and I have so many things that I want to do next year while im at school, that the though of something going wrong really bothered me, but I read a lot of stories on this website, and I decided that the benefits outweighed the risks, so I decided to go through it, and I am very happy i did. Sorry if that didnt make sense, I just took some Percocet. lol
  6. I got banded pretty fast. I attended the seminar on June 9 and I was banded on July 21. I didnt have to do a 6 month supervised diet though.
  7. Congratulations! I was banded on Wednesday, and my surgeon also found a hernia. Apparently it was one of the biggest ones that he had seen, so instead of using the 1 stitch that us needed to repair most hernias, he had to use 4 stitches on my, and they went through the diaphram, so I have been in a lot of pain. I look forward to reading about your story! -Robyn
  8. I was just banded on Wednesday, and I had a problem wiht telling people too. My insurance doesnt cover the whole thing, so my mom is paying the rest, so there is no way to really do this without her knowing. I did, however, tell her that I wanted to be the one to tell people about it when I was ready, but she went to work every day and when she got home, she had told another person. I was lucky because everyone was supportive, but I didnt want people to know, because I thought that people would always be asking me When im getting the surgery done, whether I even decided about getting it, which would have added more pressure to it. i didnt even tell my aunts and grandmother until a week before my surgery.
  9. I actually, according to my surgeon, had one ofd the largest hernias he had ever seen, and he fixed at the time of my surgery. It just meant that I was under longer.
  10. You have gas after surgery, because when they are operating Laproscopically (sp?) they use gas to expand your stomach so that they can see things easier. Some surgeons suck the gas back out. It isnt like intestinal gas or something like that. it is just gas moving around your body, which is why some poeple feel it in their shoulder. The best thing to get rid of it is to walk around A LOT because it helps it dissolve, and if you are lucky, you will burp it out. I hope that helped a little.
  11. I was really shocked with my blood pressure, because I am used to having high blood pressure. I had my surgery done yesturday, and last night my blood pressure got as low as 98/54 which freaked me out because my blood pressure has never been that low
  12. I would have to say that the pain after I got out of surgery was at a 10. I had a huge hiatial hernia (they said it was the biggest one they had seen, and instead of the normal 1 stitch they use, they had to use 4 on me), and they had to stitch it to my diaphram, so it hurt really bad, adn it still hurts a little, and i just had surgery yestury. I didnt have much gas, but the hernia repair definately made up for it.
  13. Jamie! only one more full day until Surgery! Which means one more full day of the liver shrinking diet!
  14. Wow, I think that's kinda awesome that it is on your birthday! Its is quite an amazing birthday present to yourse.f I am also having my surgery next week. Im having mine done on Wednesday and I am super nervous! but also super excited!
  15. im getting a little nervous. Ive been on the pre-op diet since last thursday and today I went to have my last appointment wiht the surgeon before my surgery and I only lost 4 pounds. I know that the liver shrinking diet isnt for losing weight, but now he wants me to lose 8 pounds by my surgery and i am worried that its not going to happen. also during my appointment, he couldnt feel my liver. I am wondering about that. Are they supposed to be able to feel livers. I am worried that it is too big and they wont do the operation.
  16. I have a question - did anyone on here have an allergic reaction to antibiotics that you were given during or after surgery? I am asking this because I am allergic to a list of antibotics that is a mile long, and I am worried that they will give me one that I havent had before and I will have an allergic reaction to it.
  17. I went to the vitamin shoppe this morning and got Nectar by Syntax. It was more like juice and thats why I got it because I am not a milk fan, so slim fast wouldnt work for me. I didnt like the taste of the nectar though, so I added a packet of crystal light lemonade to it which made it bearable. I just want to find something else that I can tolerate so that I can have a little variety
  18. Jamie, My surgery is scheduled for the same day as yours! I just started my pre-op diet today, and it was pretty easy, but I know that its going to get harder. I am really looking forward to losing weight though, so I will do all I can to make sure it happens! Good Luck!
  19. Good Luck everyone! I have 13 days until my surgery, and I am very very nervous. I started my pre-op liver shrinking diet today and I have a feeling that this is going to be very hard for me, but I know I can do it. What kind of protien shakes do you guys recomend?
  20. I hope I do well...Right now Im having a hard time finding protien shakes that I can drink. I have Nectar in the crystal blue, which is ok, adn then i added a packet of sugar free crystal light lemonade to it and that made it sweeter. What protien drinks did you drink? do you have any advice for getting through the next 2 weeks?
  21. im the same person just on another username... My pre op diet is a protien drink for Breakfast, a protien drink for lunch wiht a small piece of fruit, 2 oz cheese or half cup yogurt for a sack, then a small piece of meat and a cup of vegetables and a piece of fat free whole wheat bread. then half an apple or 10 baby carrots for snack later
