How do you cope when you plateau or gain?
Everybody is giving good advice. I already switch around my calories, during the week, when I work I pretty much stick to the same thing give or take a hundred calories and then on the weekend I usally eat a few hundred calories more it seems to be working ok so far, and I also drink more water when I don't feel that I'm losing like I should. Now if I could just get myself motivated enough to exercise more often then I would do better but I'm not dissappointed in my weight loss so far, because I know that without the band the scales would be going the other way and I would be feeling like I was in a never ending battle to lose weight, now I know that I'm in a winning battle and for the first time in I couldn't tell you when I don't feel hopeless because I know that this is working.

For me I really thinks its how fast I eat and to big of bites.:hungry:

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
All I can say is WOW Paige, 20#, that's great. I'm glad to here that things are going better after the gall bladder surgery. I bet you are still swollen like you said, I was for about a month after just having the band surgery and you had both so it will probably take a few more weeks for the swelling to go down. I was in a blah mood today, don't really know why just was, kinda ate to much this evening but I still was ok for the day. My goal for myself this week is to get 10,000 steps in a day, I almost get 9,000 in on the days that I work but on the weekend I'm lucky to get 2,500 so that will be my goal. I'll let you know next Sunday if I was able to achieve it or not. I can't wait to meet everyone that's going out to lunch on the 5th. The more the merrier. I feel this is the beginning of a great support group. And we all can use the advice that others can give us, especially since we are going through the same thing. Hey Paige I just noticed that you and I have the same amount to lose to get to our goal, we can be goal buddies, hehehe:clap2:

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
Hi everyone, been awhile since I've been on, now things have calmed down a bit so hopefully I'm back. Went and saw Dr. Shu Jan. 15th and I lost another 8# and since then I've lost 5# more for a total of 40#. I got a fill, this makes my third fill and I think I've finally found my sweet spot. I'm able to eat what I want as long as I chew good and I haven't had any problems getting it down. Discodiva, I'm so happy for you and you daughter, this will be a valentines day you'll never forget. It will be here before you know it. Paige, I hope now that they found the problem that things will be smooth sailing from here on out. Great job on the 10#, you'll be in onderland before you know it. I want to meet for lunch with you all on the 5th so count me in. Carolyn, congratulations on your surgery date also. There are a lot of us that see Dr. Shu, I think he's the greatest and so is his staff. I got all the bills back after insurance paid and it looks like I'm only going to owe around $400, I'm totaly surprised because the way I figured I was going to owe around $1000 so I'm glad that I figured wrong. I went and visited my son last weekend (he's in the army and graduated from his schooling, AIT) he wanted to go to the the fitness center at the hotel we were staying at so I went with him and he also was showing me some ab workouts and I'm here to tell you I was sweating up a storm when we got done and my ab's didn't hurt that bad until two days later and I would remember every time I bent back for something. I love it when I get to work out with my DS because he is always asking me, ok,what are you going to do next, he keeps me on trach when he's around, which helps keep me motivated. Well I'm sorry if I've been a little windy this morning I'm just hyper for some reason and it seems like I just keep babeling on. I hope everyone has a nice cozy weekend and stay's warm, it's freezing out there if you haven't noticed. HAHA

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
Congratulations DiscoDiva and welcome to the Ohio group. Dr. Shumacher didn't ise staples on my surgery. Just stitches that disolved in time, I can't really remember how long it took but it wasn't over two months. I know getting the band was the best thing I ever did for myself and I hope you like it as much as I do.

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
Hi everybody, Paige I'm glad your surgery went good, I can't believe you drove home by yourself, I remember how I felt when I went home and I don't think I could of driven. For my protien I like Isopure and Atkins Advantage drinks. Just remember each day gets better and better as far as how you feel. I used gas-x for my gas and it worked good. Barbara I'm so glad everythings ok, I know that must of been scary for you. It's good that you listened to you body and got things checked out. This way you stay on top of things. I might beable to go to the support group next month, where I work they are talking about switching our 10hr. work day to 8hr. so that would give me more time to get back in time for work. I find out tonight for sure if that is what they are going to do. I'm sorry I haven't been on in a week it just I'v been so busy, I won't be on this weekend either because I am going to visit my son and wont be back till Monday. Grazing has been a big issue with me this past week,:hungry: I'm not even hungry, it's my brain talking to me not my stomach. So I've decided to ignore my stupid brain and get on with it. Yesterday and today have been much nicer and I haven't eaten as much.

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
Hey Paige just remember we are all with you and behind you 100%, I am going to try my darndest to get down and see you on Thursday, just depends if I get to sleep right away when I get home in the morning. Lisa, it took me about 3 months from the first seminar to the surgery. If you can have your surgery in Feb. you'll still see a difference in May, that's 3 months, I lost 36# so far and it's not been quite 3 months. So just hang in there, not much longer.

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
Hi everyone, just thought I'd drop a few lines. For some reason today all I want to dois eat and I'm not hungry. I guess my mind is messing with me again. I haven't went off to badly but I don't like the feeling that nothing I eat is satisfying me. That just goes to show that even when you have the proper fill, which I think I do, your mind can still get you to want to eat. But I am not going to give in and let it beat me, I've come to far and I have to learn how to deal with this because this will always pop up fron time to time. Well bye till tomorrow. :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:Hey Paige only a little over a day left, I'm so excited for you!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
Hi everybody, Hope everyones weekend went good for them. Mine was ok, didn't do much just worked on my house. I got on the scales this morning and I lost 5# this week, I couldn't believe it, I mean the scales has only been moving about a pound a week and this week I didn't really do anything different and it moves 5#, don't get me wrong I'm not complaining and I hope it keeps up but it's just so confusing. It sure did make my day oh and I also was able to get into my size 16 jeans, I haven't been able to wear them in 2 years so that also made me feel good. I'm so glad that we are getting new members, welcome all and I hope that this site will help you and show you that your not alone. It sure has made me feel better knowing that if I have a problem or question that all I have to do is come here and more than likely someone has the answer. Well I hate to run but I gotta get ready for bed.

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
Hello everyone, Sorry I havent been on in a few day's, still working on my tile at my house, and it's still kicking my but, I am glad to say that all I have to do now is seal the grout and I'm FINISHED! Paige I ate everything in site before my surgery, then after my surgery I drank a lot of liptons cup of Soup - cream of chicken, atkins advantage shakes, Isopure protien drinks and that helped keep me full and I didn't get ran down. I don't know why but I wasn't hungry and I have a high RMR also (1775) I lost fast in the first two week, which is normal when you start a diet and since then I have lost 1 - 2 pounds a week since then. I was only on liquids for a week and a half then mushies one week then I went to solid food with no problem. I know I should of waited until Dr. Schumacher told me to go on to the other stages but I didn't and it worked for me. Not saying that you should do what I did, you have to do what's good for you. I had my surgery on Wed. and went back to work the following Monday and I work 10 hr. shifts in a factory and liquids or mushies just didn't work for me. I am up for meeting in Springfield just let me know when. I am on Vacation the weekend of Jan 19th and also the weekend of Feb. 18th but otherwise I'm good most weekends. Danielle you'll be happy that you decieded to get the band, you will be adding years to your life and a better life for your kids because you will be happier and healthier and beable to be a good role model for them. Good job Wolfmom, doesn't it feel good to beable to lose weight and not gain through the holidays? When can you say that happened last, I know for me that this is the first year in I don't know when that I didn't gain and didn't feel deprived either, I had what I wanted but just not as much as what I did in the past. Hey I have a question for all, how do you feel about doing a monthly weight challenge? Say weight in on Sunday's and keep a running total of everyone for the month and post in at the end of the month as a total- not individual - that way it doesn't put extra pressure on anyone - but we can see how are Ohio group is doing and maybe give encouragement. Just a thought. So how has everyone done with their exercise this week? I'll be honest I haven't done anything except work on my tile. So starting tomorrow I start my walking. I'll let you know how long I walked when I visit tomorrow.

Fatty Liver
I had a fatty liver, I didn't find out about it until after my surgery, My Dr. had to use a bigger band because of my liver being so large and my surgery took 3 hrs. instead of the normal 1 to 1.5 hrs. My Dr. said that losing weight would help it and he didn't seem to worried. My family Dr. told me to put lemon in my water because it is a natural detox for your liver, so I've been trying this, don't know if it's helping or not because I haven't had any test done since my surgery.

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
Hello Ohio, sorry I haven't been on in a few days, I've been grouting tile and it's kicking my butt. I never realized how much work it would be, one good thing is I love the look and can't wait till I get it cleaned up and sealed. Well it looks like we have two Lisa's here, if it would make it easier I can go by Lisann (my first and middle name) I kinda like the sound of it. I haven't walked on my treadmil but I am very sore from grouting so I know I'm using muscles that I forgot about. I started back to work last night after being off for the christmas break and there was some leftover chocolate and fudge that someone brought in and you guessed it I ate it, I did so good at home while I was off that it pisses me off at myself that I caved, I wasn't even hungry, oh well there's always today. Paige my e-mail is linadu64@msn.com, I wont beable to come down on the 10th but I will try to come see you in the morning on the 11th. I had my surgery at 11 a.m. and I didn't really come to myself until the next morning, but then I felt real alert and went home around 3 that afternoon. Lisa just hang in there, the waiting is the hardest thing but it'll be here before you know it.

3 days post op and still no poop!
I take benifiber daily and it helps me stay regular. Before the band I never had a problem but after the band you don't eat as much so it doesn't happen as often. I also took gas-x for my gas pains, per my Dr., it helped a lot.

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Well another New Years by myself but hey it wasn't all that bad I got to watch some more TV :phanvan I can't wait till our first get together, I think it will be neat to meet all of you who want to meet. I weighed myself this morning and I lost another pound bringing my total weight loss thus far to 31#. I'm pretty happy with the one pound and I expect to do better because the holidays are over and all the tempting food won't be around. What does everyone think about having an exercise goal for the month of January? It can be whatever you want it to be.... walk in place 5min three times a day, park in the back of the parking lot when you go to the store (during the day of course), stretch 10 min. when you first get up, it doesn't have to be much just something to get yourself moving. Last week when I went to the store I parked my cart at the end of the isle and went and got what I needed and brought it back to the cart, you wouldn't believe how much more you walk by doing that, it took more time but that day I had extra time and it was kinda fun. One of my goals is going to be to walk on my treadmill for at least 15 min. a day, I know I can do more but just getting myself to do it is a challenge and once I'm on there I actually like it. That is going to be my only goal of Jan. and if I walk more then that's all the better. So what are your Jan. goals going to be?

INTRODUCTIONS-please introduce yourself here before going to another thread
Hello, I guess I'm next. I''m 42 and have been overweight on and off my whole life, just had gradually gotten bigger every year. I am a divorced mother of two grown sons (22 and 19) I have one dog and I don't really go out that often because I am to self concious and I end up coming home feeling worse then if I would of just stayed home in the first place. I had my band surgery Oct. 18th 2006 and have lost 30# so far. I can already tell a difference in my health and how I feel emotionally and that's with just losing 30# just think how I'll feel when I lose 40, 50, and even my ultimate goal of 114#. One of the reasons I decided to have the band was because I am tired of not living, I mean I am only 42 and I live like I'm alot older. There are so many things I want to do but I let my weight hold me back. I want to date again, to honestly let myself have fun and not think " I wonder what they are thinking of me" , I want to go windsurfing, ride my bike, go swimming, just live and make my life more exciting then just working 40 hrs a week and coming home and watching tv. Well that's just a little about the old me and I'll update you later when the new me starts to appear little by little. WHO"S NEXT?

Poll - Are You Attracted To Overweight People?
I am usually attracted to athletic type men but if one was attraced to me I think what is wrong with him, because I am overweight I can't see anyone being attracted to me. Silly I know but that's how I see it.

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
Hello Ohio, Hope your weekend is going good so far. Mindful here's my answers for you poll. Yes I would love to have a band support group. Dayton or Colombus is good for me. Would like to meet every month but if not able everyother month is ok. I work 3rd. shift so it would have to be during the day or on the weekend. About your question of taking pills after surgery, I myself didn't have any problems taking any of my medication after surgery. Like I have already said this Ohio thread is getting me so excited, so many people going through the same thing and being able to help others figure things out. I really would love for us to beable to get together soon, as many of us as possible. The support of others can do wonders for someone when just needs somebody to talk to. My weekly weigh in is tomorrow so I'll let everyone know how I did. I'll be happy if I stayed the same with Christmas and all.

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
I'm so happy, there are more new people here. Congratulations Caroyln, I know how you feel to finally get through all of the red tape. Not much longer now. Mindful - I have nothing but nice thoughts for Dr. Schumacher and Sycamore Hosptial. I was up and about that evening and I had no complications. I would like a band only support group but it would have to be during the day and for me and unfortunatly I don't think there are enough people for that. dotofoz - I think you have found the one thing that will work, at least it has for me and I really think it will for you also. If you get nervous before the surgery remember that that is a normal thing and just go with it and you wont regret it. Impersons - My post-op diet was mostly lipton cup of Soup cream of chicken, Isopro protien drink (orange frost and grape freeze), Jello, Water, and Atkins drinks. I know it doesn't sound the greates but really it wasn't that bad. At first I wasn't hungry at all and had to make myself drink. Babyboomer - I think you are in my brain because what you said is so similar to what I feel. This band has been one of the best things I ever did for myself I just wish that I would of been able to get it 10 years ago. Oh well at least I have it now and I don't regret it one bit. I also had my surgery in Oct. (18th) and have lost 30# so far, first 15 came off in the first two weeks the rest since then. I'm happy with the weight loss expecially through the holiday season, usually I gain at least 10# but not this year. Wolfmom - Congrats on you weightloss so far, your doing great. I went through a stage after my first fill where I felt hungry, not starving, most of the time. I feel for me that it was more an emotional hunger then actual hunger, my mind telling me I need food but my stomach not telling me that. The only way that I was able to get through that was to make myself pack my lunch and snack everynight before I went to work and not take money with me so that I couldn't get anything out of the vending machines. I also wasn't able to eat out at that time either because it was to tempting. Even if I did eat more often it still was no way near what I used to consume. I'm so glad that I have all you friends for support. I just can't tell you enough how good if feels to beable to get on here and if I'm having a bad day or just want to talk to someone that is going through what I am and understands how I feel and can encourage and empathize with me. I hope everone has a great New Years and look out 2007 because we are going to make things happen.

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
Hi All, Bullwinkle when I said that I need to eat slower I really ment take smaller bites. I take to big of bites and sometimes it doesn't go down smoothly. Before my surgery Dr. Schumacher didn't have me go on a pre-op diet. You said that you had lost weight doing low carb, I did also and I was able to keep it off for about a year then I put it all back on and then some. So unfair it seems. But not again. Barbara I'm so glad to here another Ohioian (don't know if I spelled that right) and you go to Dr. Schumacher also, isn't he great. I had my 2nd fill a week before Christmas and I didn't really tell any difference until a week later and then I had my 1st PB and tonight I had another PB while I was driving on the interstate, I had to pull over to the side of the road and I think I scared my son. He doesn't know about my banding and I just told him I swallowed to big of a bite and it came back up. He was ok with that, like I said I need to take smaller bites and eat slower, maybe I'll start listening to myself sooner or later. I haven't gone to the support groups because I work 3rd shift and I wouldn't beable to get to work on time if I went. I would really love to go though, I think it would be nice to meet with others going though the same thing and getting advice and hints to help me along.

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
Bullwinkle I'm glad that your getting to see another psyc. and that your getting on your husbands insurance, it's only a matter of time now and it'll be here before you know it. I have been so happy about my decision to have the band, this is the first holiday season that I haven't gained in I couldn't tell you how long. I also like that I really haven't had to cut out any foods, just eat slower, which is a problem for me and I continue to work on everyday. Please keep me posted and if you have any questions I'll be happy to try and answer them if I can.

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
Hi Raintree and Bullwinkle, it's good to here from you. Now we have to keep this thread going. Raintree I have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and my Dr. office told me that they were the best for approval. Bullwinkle what do you have to do now? Do you have to see the psyc. again, is there any way you can see a different Dr.

Hello Ohio, let's get this started
Hi everyone, I would like for all of us in Ohio to start talking and getting to know how we are doing with our Lapband or if your are thinking about having the surgery, how things are going for you. I had my surgery Oct. 18, 2006 and I have lost 30# so far. I wish it would be more but hey at least I'm losing and not gaining. I really haven't had any problems with my lapband. I have had two fills so far and I think I might need another one when I go back to my Dr. in January. I chose not to tell anyone about getting the band except for my parent's, not even my two grown sons. You see I have failed at so many attempts in losing weight that I didn't want the pressure of everyone watching me and feeling that I would be under a microscope. For the first time in many years I do feel in control and I know that I can make it happen and finally win this battle that I have been fighting for so many years. Don't get me wrong I know that it's not going to be easy but at least now I have a tool that I know will help me get there because it has already started me on my way. I hope to here from some of my Ohio bandster family, because I really do care how you all are doing, I feel that we could be such a help to each other. I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday and I am looking forward to a fantastic New Year.:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
