I've been over weight all my life. At 10 yrs old I weighed over 200lbs. I've tried many diets which when it failed, only made the weight gain worse. As far as I know, my highest was about 420lbs. I couldn't even believe it, I was weighed at the Dr.'s office because none of the scales I've seen go up that high. When I was in my 20's I heard of bariatric surgery and I was all for it. I've been through the whole process of getting the surgery up to the point of having Insurance approval, I don't know why, but I would just quit. I'd give up the process, never follow up with another appointment, didn't finish the prerequisites, whatever it took to 'get out of it'.  At that time in my life I did not have any positive support. Some family members and friends would tell me that getting surgery is taking the easy way out, and I'm just being lazy. I thought I could do it on my own, eating small healthy meals. This worked for about 6 months, I lost a lot of weight (70lbs) but gained about twice as much back.
Well after 8 years of contemplating and procrastinating, I finally went through with it. I was worried that after all that I've been through I would be Denied, but when my Dr submited the request to my insurance it was Approved pretty much on the spot. When I received the call that it has been approved, I cried.  I was so scared, I couldn't believe this is really going to happen.  I don't know if I was afraid of, "my life is going to change forever", "this is surgery, you could die" or happiness tears of "I'm finally going to be able to be healthy", "I finally did it!". It took me about a week or so for it to set it, but I am happy about it now and can't wait to start my journey.
