What kind of vitamins do you take?
Cars vitamins or Nemo. I hate adult vitamins (even the gummy ones). The kids vitamins just taste so much better.

NEW Central Texas Army Wife here.
It's very normal. My hubby is Coast Guard and I've been working out at the gym for years. Can't seem to lose the weight. I recently lost a cousin to heart disease at a young age. It was the kicker for me. I'm both scared and excited. I'm looking forward to a healthier me but I'm afraid of the steps it's going to take. I need to be strong. Don't be ashamed. You're thinking of your health and your kids. You want to be around for them.

I can't believe I'm doing this!!!
Welcome to the forums! You'll get lots of support here.

Tricare Approval or Denial??
My surgeon sent my info to Tricare yesterday. I'm waiting on approval now. If I get it, my surgery is scheduled for May 5th. Hubby has appeal letters waiting in case they deny me (he worries about things more than I do).

What are your goals for lap band surgery?
1. I'd like to see my cholesterol go down. I've also started noticing knee and ankle problems. I'd like those to go away. I want to be able to keep up with my now 2 year old. I have aunts that went through knee and hip surgery. Both are overweight. I had an uncle and a grandfather die from major heart attacks in their 50's. I just had a cousin die over Christmas. She was very overweight and so is sister so has diabetes. I really don't want any of that to happen to me. 2. I'd love to be 140 pounds but will be satisfied with 150-160. 3. I can remember when I was a healthy weight. I had a lot of confidence in myself then and would like it back. I wasn't afraid of having my picture taken then either.

Emotionally Tied to Food
Pardon me for saying so, but if your friends are keeping you from being healthy then they aren't really friends. Your true friends will support you and those who drop you never really were your friends to begin with.

BIG Embarassing Moments - Fuel for Success
My most embarrassing moment happened years ago when I was still in the military. I was showing a journalist around and when we got on board a boat, I heard my pants rip. I have a habit of buying clothes a size too small figuring it will motivate me to lose weight. Well, I had to spend the day with a rip on my rear. Sadly, it wasn't enough to convince me I needed help.

Thank goodness someone else sees it!
Congratulations to you! I hate when no one listens. I had that problem with a doctor several years ago. Told him I was depressed and it was affecting my menstrual cycle. He wouldn't believe me. My depression passed (thankfully without medical help) and my body righted itself. Sounds like you have a great nutritionist!

calling insurance
I hate having to call people but just pick up the phone and say "I was wondering where I stand with this." It's polite and may get them moving knowing that you are keeping track of their progress (or lack thereof).

Second Thoughts????
I certainly understand the fear. I've gotten so used to being overweight that I'm comfortable with it, sort of. I hate having my picture taken and I despise mirrors but I'm afraid to change. Yet here I am waiting on approval and scheduled for surgery. What I do is try to remember how I felt the times I weighed less. How confident I felt. And I try to think of my son who's 2. How he will feel when Mommy can keep up with him and be around for him. Fear is natural but we can't keep it from controlling us or we will never move forward.

Newbie from New Jersey
Welcome to the boards. I'm new here myself and am just waiting on insurance to approve the surgery. It's scheduled for May 5. It's nice to meet other Jersey people.

Parents...
I refuse to tell my dad. I will tell him after the surgery, most likely when I see him next in August. I really don't need his comments. I find them hypocritical or way off mark. He hates doctors and thinks everything can be done without ever seeing one. I don't think he will understand.

Please help!!!!!
Using a civilian doctor. I live in New Jersey and don't feel like traveling just to get banded.

nyone with TriCare had surgery at military hospital or civilian facility
I rather liked my "mess up." The hospital billed Tricare with my social instead of my husband's (even after I told them to use his). Got a $2000 bill from hospital Friday. Had to call billing and hope they correct it..soon!

Back from the trip from hell
Lol. Been there, done that. I don't think it was the kids who were the problem (other than being ill) but rather hubby. Mine's the same way. Drive til you get there at top speed. He should have been a fighter pilot.

Talk to your Tricare specialist. They will have all the answers. I've heard BMI over 40, over 100 pounds with co-morbidities, over 200 with no co-morbidities, etc.

Please help!!!!!
My husband is AD military and I'm scheduled to have surgery May 5. Just waiting on Tricare to approve. From what I have heard, you must have a BMI higher than 40 (mine's 41) or be 100 pounds over with co-morbidities but Tricare is cloudy on their requirements. Talk to your Tricare specialist. They will be able to help you. Good luck.
