Hey girls, I am the same way, I haven't had my surgery yet but this is a great thing to bring up prior so I don't do anything to sabotage my future, I was actually looking up books right before I saw your post about bariatric surgery and how to be successful and I found a book that may interest you. It's called get out of your own way by Dr Mark Goulston. I am going to download it on my kindle for when I go to the hospital and I can read it while I wait and for after surgery!!! Well good luck with hitting that 50+ mark, I know you can do it!!!

Thanks ladies, I am getting my Protein and Vitamins in, maybe I am not chewing enough. I will be more aware of my chewing habits, and work on my abc's in the process.
Good luck to the upcoming surgery too, I was scared to death right up until they injected me.. You will be glad you did it.

Went and purchased all my supplements and items in preparation for my surgery March 24th.. A little nervous, however I'm having my surgery done at the University of Iowa Hospital where the gastric bypass surgery was actually pioneered, so I feel I'm in excellent hands.

I have been stocking up as well. It helps so much when you have total confidence in your team.

Thank you, Pupichupi! My husband is going to my next appointment, and I will be sure to remind the surgeon of my previous complications so that she can assure him that they were unique and not likely to be repeated. I had gone to her a few years ago for a consult (chickened out), so she is familiar with what I (and, thus, my family) went through.

You aren't chewing enough, when you eat something sing your ABC's one letter for each chew!!! That's approx. how long you should be chewing. It also depends on the person too, some people take longer to move on, are you drinking any Protein shakes? As long as your getting in your Protein you should be good, but just make sure that you talk to your doctor the next time you go. Good Luck!!!

Surgery went smoothly. No complications. I have a little pain, nothing too bad. Nausea was my biggest worry since I am allergic to Zofran. I have walked twice, peed twice and generally just hung out. Tolerating ice chips today.

If you buy Ball or Kerr jars, the boxes say whether they are safe for freezing. Usually the wide mouth jars are the ones that are okay. The ones with the shoulders can break, even when you leave what you think is enough 'headspace'.

Pdxman, I completely agree, you should have some kind of active role in you nutrition otherwise how do you know what's going into your meal?? I am following your role and cooking every Saturday or Sunday to make my weekly + meals so I know I will be in a good position to lose my weight and keep it off!!!

I just have to ask ... then what did you eat pre-op? Prepared foods? You say you never will want to cook. What was your plan for your sleeved life? The chicken veggie Soup takes only a few minutes and tastes awesome. I just find it hard to believe someone can't go buy a rotisserie chicken, frozen vegetables and broth. The pulled pork is even less time. Buy it at the store, put it in crock pot, drain liquid, add sauce. Pretty much all the recipes I have listed are just that simple. Fry ground turkey, add tomatoes, Beans and spice. Done. Don't think of it as cooking, if that is what has you stuck, think of it as assembling. All the stuff is there at the store, you are merely combining them. There is no magic here and very little effort.
For me, taking an active role in my nutrition has been so rewarding. I know it is one of the reasons I have been successful with my sleeved life. I wish you well on your journey.

Other than shrinking the liver the purpose for the pre-op diet has always made me scratch my head.
You are getting weight loss surgery because you find it difficult to impossible to lose the fat, many times proven with a multitude of diets.
So we will put you on a pre-op diet to see if you have what it takes to lose weight after the surgery.
To me it is like saying, "You have to cut down that Sequoia tree.....with a butter knife...to show you have the determination to do it. If you make enough of a dent on it we will give you the chain saw."

My surgery is next Wednesday and I have been on the pre-op diet for one week I'm really scared I'm going to be knock back from the surgery as 3 day in I had chicken laksa for lunch (forgot my shake sachet) and they had no salads left then I went out for work functions the boys ordered my garden salad which was great only problem I was told I could have diet soda so through the night I ordered three glasses only to find half way drinking through the third it was normal coke stopped went to Water. And on Sunday I had a smacked on popcorn really regret the popcorn now I also went cold turkey smoking and have struggled with the craving so I have been walking up to 3kms a day for last three days my intake for past week has been under 850 calories and drinking 2lt of water am I worrying to much or could I have screwed myself??

    Law001,
It's good to read, but don't let some of the stuff get to you, your reading it but your also thinking it's going to happen to you, don't do that, your going to get yourself all worked up that your not going to go through with it. I am a great listener, and if you want to talk any time I can be available. I don't live far, we are in the same time zone anyway so if you want email me and we can exchange emails and we can email all my emails go to my cell I will need the help just as much as you do. To talk to someone who is going through what I am going through. We are all here.

Thank you for this post, this was a great post, and a great analogy. I personally LOVE the show the biggest loser and have watched every season since it's started, and every time I watched it I felt like it inspired me somehow that night anyway till the next day and I would just be like whatever, and the the following week I would be watching it again and being like I could do that, and the rotation began. Not this year, I am not being the quitter this time, I am going to be my own biggest loser and I am going to be inspired by myself and show myself how much I can do this I don't need a show to inspire me. Workouts aren't easy, and diets are easy. Life isn't easy, you have to put forth the effort if you really want something, and for a long time I wanted it but I wasn't willing to put forth the effort. I am ready now and I am going to do everything I need to do to get past this point in my life and move to the next chapter!!! So thanks Jean, I am glad you posted this!!!
