  1. I feel this way all the time, cause of all the times I tried to lose weight and it failed, I am just starting my journey, and I read a post from someone on here called super dieters. If you find it you should read it. After reading that I have decided that I am not going to allow myself to cheat or have bad food. Now I can say that now, and after a year or whatever it takes to get to where I want to be I could change my mind, but i think that as long as I put forth the effort to stay away from the junk I used to eat, I should be ok. I am going to stock my fridge with fresh fruit and cut up vegetables and always have some with me so that I can try to stay healthy, cause as you say your not being here for your 15 month old is incentive enough for you, I also have 2 kids a 9 and 12 year old that depend only on me. I have to be here for them, and they are my world and I will do whatever it takes to be here and show them the right way to live. So good luck in your journey, and I hope the best for you!!!
  2. Yvonne, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for posting this, I am actually having surgery tomorrow and I am super excited, but I was struggling these past few days with the issue of will I ever be able to or even want to eat the foods I love now while I am heavy, and I have decided to follow the 6 steps rule, and I definitely am going to follow step one. I don't want to be trapped like I am now, and I want to be able to get to where I have always wanted to be HEALTHY. So thanks again, I am going to copy and paste these steps to a word document and print out a bunch and post them everywhere I can see it when I grab for foods and remember what you said!!! I am going to start my new life off right.
  3. Man I hope my doctor doesn't tell me I can't drive, cause I would be lost. Although my boyfriend drives most of the time, if I want to go somewhere I don't want to depend on anyone!!!
  4. Lorraine, Yes you are supposed to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior and then just clear liquids for a little bit after, and I have been on my liquid diet for 2 weeks already, tomorrow is my surgery, I have been doing liquids only since the 5th, but you have to remember not all doctors ask for you to do 2 weeks of a liquid diet some ask for more some ask for less it all depends on your doctor and where you live. So just depends. But good luck, being new is a good thing, just make sure you talk to your doctor, and get all your answers. Don't leave anything on the table. I found that is the best thing, and if you have questions that you don't think you necessarily have to ask your doctor, ask people here, they are more than willing to help and answer whatever it is you have questions to.
  5. In the Pre-op Diet does anyone know how many calories I should be taking in? My boyfriend asked me last night how many I was having, and I just calculated it I am only taking in approx. 700 calories, cause I have 2 shakes a day and 1 Protein bar, and then I usually have a yogurt, then I just drink Water through out the rest of the time? I don't know that it matters much now since my surgery is wednesday but I just realized it and now thats probably why I am so hungry all the time?
  6. Thanks SugarFreeMe, I am really working hard to not eat any of that stuff, and so far I have done great, but just the smells they are a whole new sense it feels like and I am just like oh give me some. LOL, I didn't do it though!!! I am very proud of myself how I have pushed myself to conquer this so far. My boyfriend wanted Burger King yesterday and so on the way home I swang through and grabbed it for him and OMG, the smell of it made my mouth Water, and when I got home he asked if I would like a french fry and I said nope I am not doing it. He feels bad that he is there eating it while I am there and can't touch it, but I told him don't feel bad it's just making me stronger. So Thanks and good luck tomorrow!!!

  9. So this weekend, I was talking to my boyfriend, and we were talking about the surgery, and I told him how this was going to change not just my life but both our lives, cause when it comes to the weekends and we do date nights, we aren't going to be able to just go out to eat and pick whatever to eat. I told him for a while I probably wouldn't be able to go out to eat, and the loving man that he is, said that's ok, we can do other things on date nights, we can go to the movies, or we can can go do something that is fun but a workout too. I love him so much he is such a great guy. Although I was also thinking how hard it's going to be on me. I am not going to lie, I didn't get the way I am cause I ate healthy, I love food, and it sort of makes me nervous that I won't be able to eat a lot of things for a very long time if ever again. I mean I have been on this liquid diet now since the 5th and I feel good, but this weekend was a hard test for me, I had my sons birthday party, and we had pizza for it, and it smelled so good, I just wanted one piece, but I was good, I had my shake and I did what I was supposed to, but then we got home and there was so much pizza and cake still left over and I wanted so badly to eat something and I had to keep reminding myself why I am doing this. So by sunday night I was craving something and I so what I did was I ate a couple peanuts that are in the shell, and i made sure I chewed them so much that it was mush by the time I swallowed. Does anyone else feel this way, or did feel this way this close to surgery day??? Please let me know.
  10. Iambeautiful, thanks for the info, I wasn't sure about those isopures? They are kind of expensive from what I hear too. I was thinking of trying that almond milk with my shakes I just keep forgetting to grab some when I go to the store? I will have to do that soon. I am having my surgery this wednesday and I am so excited!!! Well Thanks again!!!
  11. Congrats Keasha, I hope that my surgery goes just as well as yours, however, I won't be staying at the hospital that long. I am only staying one night. I am super excited as I go in for it this wednesday. Thanks for the update on yours, that is awsome. Good luck!!!
  12. Motivation is key for me too. Just had surgery yesterday. I have a bikini hanging up in my room that I haven't worn since I was 19 lol. I will be able to get that sucker on again!!I'm the same way. Last year on my trip to Florida bought this awesome cutout swim suit I'm sure the sales clerk was thinking Really? Lol. Hanging up in my room so I see it every time I go in my bedroom. March 24th is the day!! Lets do this!!! Long road, who cares what they think when you bought the bikini, lol they have no substantial part in your life!!! I would go in that store after you lose the weight wearing the bikini and be like and what!!! Lol Dolfinld good for you!! You show them what you can do???
  13. Hi Jennifer, I am also on my preop diet, but I have already been on for a week and a half, I had to buy my preop diet from my doctors office too but they didn't give me a choice like you have I had to get the only one they had which is metagenics, and they only give you chocolate and vanilla shakes and the vanilla is gross, and the chocolate is ok, I take the chocolate one and add Peanut Butter to is, um yummy. I hear though that the Unjury is a good one and not expensive at all. The one I got with 10 days of shakes, the Fiber stuff that is nasty, and the Vitamins was $230. I don't have to buy my post surgery stuff from them, as I use the whey protein from walmart only $15.00 and it's got 30 grams of protein per scoop. Well good luck!!!
  14. Thanks longroad34, I am excited for you too!!! My mom had an old dress from a time when I had lost a lot of weight, but that's cause I stopped eating for a year. I won't be doing that again. So I got this dress and it was a time that I liked how I looked and felt, and I hung it up in my bedroom so i can see it every morning when I get moving for the day and it's a reminder of where I want to be with all this. I look forward to wednesday and there after. Please keep me posted how you do.
  15. Sue, don't cry, don't be disappointed you know what I don't feel one surgery is better than the other, but the bypass is still a good option for a surgery. I am having the bypass by choice my doctor was trying to get me to do the sleeve but I don't want that, I want the bypass, because I know my self and I have been following a topic about self sabotage, and I would sabotage myself knowing if I do the sleeve there is still one more surgery to go to, so that is why I chose the last option and I can't do no more after that, so this is it for me, I have to loose the weight, I know it's tough, is there any other doctors around your area that will do the any of the surgeries? I am sorry it didn't go well, but stay strong and weigh your options and when you figure out what YOU want then you stick with it, and if they can't do the sleeve because of some issues, maybe just take that as a sign, and have the bypass? We are all here for you!!! Good Luck!!!
  16. Leepers, do you have anything that you so desperately want to fit in after all this is over? Like a goal outfit? I have one and I am getting it from my mom before I have my surgery, it's from a LONG time ago, but she still has it for me, just in case? I loved it it was the one and only time I lost weight and I was 21 and I just stopped eatting for a year? I will never do that again!!! I couldn't anyway I love food too much!!! lol? But it's a beautiful straight forest green crushed velvet gown, I never went to my prom in high school I was too fat for a pretty dress, and so when I lost that weight I bought this and only wore it one time to a Christmas party for the job I did at the time and I felt so beautiful. I have never felt as beautiful as I did that night, and I want to fit into that again. I was 150 lbs when I wore that gown, and I don't care if its something I will never wear I just want to fit in it and look good too!!! Maybe get something like that and hang it up in your room where you will see it everyday and it will be your reminder that the Pasta and donuts aren't going to get you into that outfit? Good luck!!!
  17. Hey girls, I am the same way, I haven't had my surgery yet but this is a great thing to bring up prior so I don't do anything to sabotage my future, I was actually looking up books right before I saw your post about bariatric surgery and how to be successful and I found a book that may interest you. It's called get out of your own way by Dr Mark Goulston. I am going to download it on my kindle for when I go to the hospital and I can read it while I wait and for after surgery!!! Well good luck with hitting that 50+ mark, I know you can do it!!!
  18. missyhogan, what surgery did you have? Don't forget your stomach is still swollen and you have to give it time. Make sure your getting in your protein!!! That's all that matters at this point. You will get there!!!
  19. wow sue, and I thought my story was bad!!! Well I wish you good luck and I hope that for you that they say that your preferred surgeon can do the surgery for you and soon!!! I am going in for bypass post band on Wednesday!!! I can't wait but I didn't have half as much issues as you did with your band. Good luck!!!
  20. which surgery are you getting first of all???
  21. Nellarifixmom, I am so glad that he is going with you, that will be good for both of you for him to get all the info. That is what I did, my boyfriend went to my first appt., cause he had a lot of concerns and questions too, specially about which surgery I should do, cause I wasn't sure if I wanted the bypass or the sleeve, and ultimately I decided that the bypass was best for me. It made him feel much more at ease about me getting the surgery too. Good luck and keep us posted!!!
  22. I have a 17 year old daughter who lost 65 pounds over the last 15 months doing weight watchers. I started out with her but I was not successful. After failing at WW again, and Ideal Protein, I gave up. When I first mentioned the WLS her reaction was not great. In her mind, if she can lose weight then I should be able to as well. But once she realized that she exercises and always has despite being very heavy, and I can't exercise at this point, it made more sense to her. And she's realizes how much she will benefit from having less food around too. (I can't begin to express how proud I am of her. She wore a size 16 prom dress last April and is trying on 8/10 this year. She's done a good job of maintaining a teenage social life but makes better choices when she's out with her friends.) My hubby and I have been talking about who I will tell and who I won't. The out-laws (aka my in-laws) will never be told. My family is ok as my mom had hers done 9 years ago. My dad will be worried, but I think my cardiac issues really scared him so this is being done to improve that problem. I just don't know how people don't tell people. I mean, once the weight starts to drop and people ask, what do people say? I just don't want to hide. I will probably only tell a few people pre-op. The people closest to me will be fine because they know my medical issues this past year. And others can judge me if they want. It doesn't really matter. Along with my health, I'm working on my unhealthy need to please people. I did tell a co-worker today that my date is 4/15 and she was very nice but obviously caught off guard by it. I only told her because I may need her to cover a class for me. She doesn't know my medical background and is much larger than me. I think that's what caused the shock. Amylife2, that is awesome about your daughter, I did the same thing and couldn't lose it. I know how hard it is, and how great it will be for you specially with all your health issues. You know as I was reading this, you don't have to tell anyone you don't want, and if you start losing the weight and they ask you then you can tell them, but it's no ones business what you do with your life, and that is the reason I am not telling people cause I am not doing this for anyone else, I am doing this for me. Thats just what you have to remember. Screw the rest of them that judge or whatever, and as for the co-worker that you told, maybe you will be an inspiration to her to do something for herself. Obesity isn't a fun thing to live with, I have lived with it for my entire life and I am ready for this more than anything. Good luck and Congrats to your daughter.
  23. Thanks!!! Good luck to u as well! I have been on a low calorie diet...3 shakes a day plus one meal but I can only have 1000cal a day. I admit, I did break down a few times in two days bit even though I splurged, I still stayed within my calorie limit and of course avoided high fat and carb items but I still feel guilty. That's why I'm worried about my liver. But no matter what I still had my shakes. I'm hoping its not gonna be an issue
  24. Woo hoo, good job spraine, thats awesome!!! Congrats I am getting more excited now. Thanks!!!
  25. Nellarifixmom, you are not alone!!! You have a whole website full of people who you can talk to and depend on!!! Most everyone here will help you! Just make sure you tell your doctor everything about what happen during past surgery! Maybe ask your husband if he can go to an appointment with you to meet your surgeon so he can ask questions and you can find out more of his concerns. Having your husbands support is big for your success!!! Good luck!!!
