How many calories?

In the Pre-op Diet does anyone know how many calories I should be taking in? My boyfriend asked me last night how many I was having, and I just calculated it I am only taking in approx. 700 calories, cause I have 2 shakes a day and 1 Protein bar, and then I usually have a yogurt, then I just drink Water through out the rest of the time? I don't know that it matters much now since my surgery is wednesday but I just realized it and now thats probably why I am so hungry all the time?

You've got to understand. That's considered an extremely low calorie diet and it serves multiple purposes. Mainly - it reduces the size of your liver for surgery. It also gets allot of the solids out of your intestines and starts to reduce your cravings prior to surgery, making it a bit easier post surgery. Have faith. You will get through this.

I had my surgery in Dec and for 5 days it was clear liquids and then for 2 weeks -protein shakes 3 times a day which totaled 300 calories. Good luck to you ! It is the first day of the rest of your life. It's been 3 months over 50 pounds and down 3 pant sizes. I feel the best I have felt in years. It's amazing how much energy I have. Keep us posted and have a great night-Maria.

I'm pretty new to this but aren't we supposed to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior?

And then the just clear liquids?

Lorraine, Yes you are supposed to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior and then just clear liquids for a little bit after, and I have been on my liquid diet for 2 weeks already, tomorrow is my surgery, I have been doing liquids only since the 5th, but you have to remember not all doctors ask for you to do 2 weeks of a liquid diet some ask for more some ask for less it all depends on your doctor and where you live. So just depends. But good luck, being new is a good thing, just make sure you talk to your doctor, and get all your answers. Don't leave anything on the table. I found that is the best thing, and if you have questions that you don't think you necessarily have to ask your doctor, ask people here, they are more than willing to help and answer whatever it is you have questions to.
