    Iron supplement

I also have problems taking those many vitamins and minerals plus the iron. Found that the calcium is nasty for my stomach. The doctor said to take a few of them after eating food. Nothing works. When I don't take them I feel wonderful. What's a person to do? I'm glad you presented this problem as maybe someone can help us both.

    D-day!

My thoughts are with you right now... The only hurt you will feel is something like having a tooth filled. I imagined it was going to hurt big time. No way, easy peasy....

    BACON

Oh, isn't this awful but yet we will have to face these same things after surgery. I had my bypass over two weeks ago. Two days before, I went to the checkout with chicken broth and for some reason the woman in front of me had the belt loaded with pastries that were so frosty and sweet looking and the lady behind me put two half gallons of Friendly's ice cream that just set me off to get teary. Emotions are a human thing and never be thinking you are alone with all these feelings.
  6. Keep it very simple because you will have IVs on top of your hands, those sticky pads to monitor different parts hey said that they keep the temp lowered to keep germs down. You will be made to walk as much as you can. Just be sure to listen to the nurses.

    Pre op liquid diet

This is a big change for your body. The toxins that are in there don't know what the heck is going on. Have you had your Protein powder shake? You might need more protein to fuel your body. Breakfast is our natural need and when we all of a sudden go liquid our whole system is shaken up Might want to keep glucose tabs on you at all times.

Today was my surgery.. What a nightmare.

What a crappy thing to happen.. Be mad, cry anything that will relieve some of the anger over what you had your dreams based on. Bad enough the surgery part but the mental and emotional part is the pits. UGH. 6 months seems like such a long time to wait for the darn stuff to heal. We know it's the truth but our inner child is angry as anything this shouldn't be happening when we see others going through what seems to be seamless procedures and here we are stuck in this mess. I hope this makes you feel better. I had my procedure (bypass) last Monday. There was a setback in the recovery room where I threw up pure blood and was aggressively put back in the operating room where they put and endoscopic tool and implanted 3 metal clamps to stop the bleeding. Ho hum, meanwhile I'm OK now but when I see others with support systems at home it makes me wonder at times how come I'm not having a warm atmosphere to live in.
  9. OK ladies, this is it. Tomorrow morning to be at the hospital at 9 am. Surgery set for 10:30. Doctor said it will take 3 hours. Kinda jumpy and have a stress headache.

    Having my nails dine,,

I can't have any nail polish nor makeup, powder, perfume. This just makes it easier to observe any changes in color during the operation.
  11. Thank you so much Ashlee for posting this positive smiling video. You are so pretty. I'm having my bypass on Monday the 23rd and this has helped me so much.

    pre-op diet worries

Good morning Jtickle:Like you, I thought the same thing but this didn't happen. Once I put my mind on it I didn't have any problems. Something that really helped was the protein shakes. I got my protein powder from Puritan's Pride it is buy one get one free. Ordered the chocolate and it is so chocolaty. Yum. Have the strawberry one but find it almost too sweet. I never thought that something could be too sweet but lo and behold yes indeed. Drink plenty of water to flush all those toxins out of your system. I drink allot of coffee with Coffee Mate powder in chocolate with no sugar. It fills that void of sorts. You have more food than I'm allowed right now but find that I'm not hungry. That's a big one for me as I always had to munch. I cleaned out my shed on Saturday and that sure tired me out. Yesterday I went to Home Depot and bought an air conditioner and installed it myself. Who would have thought I could ever do this; I'm 68 and have more energy now than ever. Since I purged my body and mind. My surgery is next Monday and not one bit nervous as I know my real life is about to begin. As one hospital calls it "It's my birthday". So think of it like that. Clean, clean, clean but with joy. It's kinda like 'nesting' before a woman is getting ready for having a baby but in your instance it's getting ready for your birthday party YAY.

    Any June 24th people?

I'm thinking that perhaps your body is responding to the pre op intake. Maybe withdrawal from your normal food. This is a big change in our life. Considering the meals and Snacks that we are so used to ingesting this change might make our bodies wonder what the heck is going on. Are you drinking enough Water or fluids throughout the day? Dehydration is one of the things that they are warning us about. Sip, sip, sip all day long before and after surgery. I hated water before all this was about to begin but now that I drank more and more I'm finding it a habit. Trying to get away from those individual bottles and filling a pretty glass pitcher with tap water and yesterday put lemon in it just made it better. But, on the go I must take water so I'm going to try and put the water in some of those mason jars and put a small cooler in the car as traveling most of the day. They aren't pretty but they are more cost effective. Jtickle: As I read your concern I just want to reassure you that those of us who have had abdominal surgeries (I had three C sections) way back when. I sure did hurt but considering that they are just making 6 holes and doing them robotical will lessen the pain. I was told that they are giving me pain medicine while I'm still under after they are done surgery and will administer pain meds on scheduled timing after. We must take them to prevent the ups and downs from no pain to more pain. We will sit up after a set time in our rooms and walk, walk, walk to give us strength and move the lungs to make them stronger. I'll be here this week doing my routine and not trying to think ANY negative thoughts as I know that the more we give those we get more. It's up and up and away to our new lives and change is scary BUT WE WIN YAY !!!!!!!!!

    Any June 24th people?

Hi there, I'm having my bypass on the 23rd. So it looks like we may be in the hospital the same time. I've been doing my shakes, drinking plenty of Water, coffee and Vitamins. Was eating raw vegetables but that got really boring so now I've been having a nice warm large Soup mug with lower sodium chicken broth and a can of salt free string Beans and of course my dessert of sugar free popsicles. When I first started that a few days ago I didn't think I could just live on this but now I'm not experiencing any hunger at all. I had a very long session with my surgeon and nutritionist on Thursday and now that this is done I just have to weigh in next Friday at their office and just pack a few things on the weekend and on Monday walk into a new life.

Finally got a date! June 23rd!

It's a life changing experience and to help you if I can....think about how much your life will change for sure. We have been in these overweight bodies so long that when these are taken away we will be thin and that is scary. It's like getting a new pair of shoes. We have the old ones that are so comfortable even if we know they're ugly looking that throwing them away doesn't feel very good.

Finally got a date! June 23rd!

I'm sad that I won't have the ability to connect until I come home as I don't have an I phone. Going to stay with a friend on Wed when I get discharged from the hospital. They don't want me to stay alone here.

Finally got a date! June 23rd!

Yay Amanda Love I'm having my bypass on June 23rd TOO !!!!!!!
  22. I am so looking forward to not have the thigh rubbing together. To really be able to shop in the normal size dept. Never shopping at Just My Size again. Not having to see my big behind and flabby stomach. Oh to have perhaps that special surgery to make it go away. What a dream. No more rashes there. Actually getting out of a chair without looking like hungry hungry hippo :-( Giving away all my fat clothes. Not having my feet hurt from trying to stand for any length of time. My bypass surgery date is June 23rd and am more ready than ever.

    PRE-pre-op diet advice?

I would like to put my little comment to you. Anticipating your surgery is one thing but realizing that you are to mentally and physically for a complete lifestyle change. This won't be just for a little while but for the rest of your life. Trying to just do these changes for a short while and thinking that it will help won't do. Change your eating and don't so call 'cheat'. This isn't a game. Need to change your mindset completely. Vegetables are very important along with lean Protein. I have completely done all this and feel so much better. I "juice" vegetables lots of greens and carrots almost every day. I just ate a grilled skinless chicken breast, cherry tomatoes. I won't be hard to eat well. In the afternoon I had some cottage cheese which I used to hate but now am using it every day. With that I had some natural juice peaches from Aldi's. Nice prices make it easier to buy what you need.
