Coach to 5k (who wants to run?)
I'm doing the online plan. It's 2 months. 8 weeks. I don't know what you are talking about with 5 or 7 months. That's a looong time to train for a 5K. Maybe it's something different. I'm doing 5 days a week right now because I am still doing more walking than running. My body feels great! And it gets easier everyday....

Coach to 5k (who wants to run?)
Hi Guys! I love Couch to 5K. I started it 2 weeks ago. Tomorrow starts my 3rd week and I up my running even higher. My goal has always been to run a 5K but never knew how to train. I've become so addicted that instead of the 20 minutes they tell you to do, I never do less than 30 and sometimes up to 50. And I've been doing it 5 days a week, not 3. It's been the BEST challenge. Don't get me wrong, I still HATE running, but I hate it a little less each day. And to answer the big boob question.... I have huge ones, as most of us do here. And I wear 2 sports bras and one tank top with a bra in it. I am completely strapped in! And it helps, but I still feel tons of pressure on my chest. I can't wait till I can wear just one bra! Oh happy day....

Did the film "Shallow Hal" offend anyone?
I think what I didn't like about it was that it made the assumption that all ugly people (not necessarily FAT but ugly) are of wonderful character and that beautiful people are not. I guess that wasn't that point of the movie- I only saw it once so I might be mistaken. But that was the general assumption I got out of it. And to me- whether overweight, ugly, obese, thin OR beautiful if not necessarily offensive- but untrue. So I just thought it was a dumb movie and chalked it up to that!

Exercise Challenge?
I had a slow start with this challenge but am doing much better. I am on the Couch to 5K and tomorrow will be Week 2. I'm supposed to walk 90 seconds/run 60 seconds for 20 minutes. I've yet to do less then 27 minutes and today even did 40! It's also supposed to be 3 days and I did 5 this week. BUT tomorrow starts a new day. Tomorrow starts 2 minutes walking/90 seconds running. I doubt I'll make it to 40 minutes doing that any time soon. It's such a wake up call to how out of shape I am! I hate it. I am still so out of shape but keep reminding myself that I'm getting there

Exercise Challenge?
This would be wonderful for me. I'm 13 days post-op and doing well but haven't started a regular exercise program yet. I just started the Couch25K yesterday. I was dreading it all day but when I finished, I felt great. And my stomach, legs, and hips are sore- and it feels awesome. Couch to 5k - C25K Running Program is the website if anyone is interested. I'm going to do it 5 days a week although the program says only 3 are needed. Give it a shot, I've heard great things about it.

11 days post-op - have not lost any weight!!
I've found after reading everyone else's Dr's requirements that mine is quite harsh. I'm on liquids ONLY for 21 days post-op. And it has been very tough. But I have lost 8 lbs since surgery and 10 in my pre-op diet. But I put on 2-3 lbs right after surgery which freaked me out! But I think it was just my body healing. I would suggest keeping a journal of everything you are eating. I use Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com. I'm addicted. I've found lots of mushies can be high in calories- same with liquids so I'm keeping an eye on it... Try that. AND start working out. Walking is a great start if you are as out of shape as I am! I am a 90210 junkie and love watching the old episodes. To make myself work out I only watch it on my treadmill. A simple walk will get your heart rate up.

What does restriction feel like?
You definitely sound like you know what you are talking about! Thanks for the input. I'm only 11 days post op so I am still on liquids. But I was wondering what a typical day of food for you is. Can you give me a run down of what you usually each daily? Just an example would be awesome. Thanks!

I am failing miserably
My Doctor and Nutritionist both told me not to have ANY carbonated drinks in the first 6 months because it stretches the band out tremendously.

Port Pain?
My surgery was January 15th and I still have port pain. It is bearable though unless I bend to turn awkwardly. Some days it hurts more than others. I've heard it will hurt for about a month. Remember, you are still healing....

Easter Challenge Anyone?
Can I join?? I am only one week post-op so I'm still "getting to know" my band. But I am super motivated and excited and want to share my successes and failures with all of you! PLUS I am a bridesmaid in July and need to drop as much as possible as fast as possible so I can turn some heads!
-
what did u eat for breakfast?
All of this sounds so good! I'm one week post op and am still on full liquids and some "mushies." I can't wait to eat real food so I can try all these yummy things! This morning I had an Activia yogurt and coffee.

What do you wish someone had told you BEFORE your surgery?
Please don't let it bother you. I am having surgery on Friday and I want the good the bad and the ugly. Honesty is best. Pre-op posters appreciate knowing how everyone feels. So don't hold back. Your comments help people get a full view of the possibilities as well as the ups and downs. So thank you.

What do you wish someone had told you BEFORE your surgery?
Hi Janelle! I am using Dr Ortiz too. My surgery is scheduled for January 15th- this FRIDAY! I'm very excited. Well I just wanted to say hi and congrats on your decision. I agree with your comments about insurance- we are in the same boat!

January 15th Bansters??
Hi Charise! I love the shoes so far. I am not on my feet all day though. I actually wish I was so I could take advantage of them more. I work form home which means I basically wear slippers! :smile2: But I definitely love how great they feel on my feet when I do go out and wear them. I walk with them on my treadmill too. I've been working out a lot lately and my body is so sore- so I'm not sure hoe much of that is from the shoes but they feel great. I recommend them for sure. I got mine on Amazon for $100.

January 15th Bansters??
Hi guys! Happy HUMP day! Updates: My pre-op diet is going well. Not too hungry until nighttime- which is when I was doing my overeating! So my fix to that is- GO TO BED! I bought a bunch of fun new gear to get me excited about my exercise program. I bought the Shape-Up shoes by Sketchers and will start walking daily in those. I also bought some fun Wii games- I kinda over bought..... hehehe.... I'm gonna try them all out over the next few days and see what's best. I jumped on the scale this morning- I wanted to wait, but I have ZERO patience. I weighed 224. That would put me down by 6 pounds in only about 2-3 days. I'm sure that's all Water weight. But it's still nice to see. Regadless of water weight or not, it's always a good feeling to see the scale go DOWN, not UP!

Any January 2010 Bandsters????
Thanks for your input! That's so encouraging to here. I went with Dr Ariel Ortiz. I read about him for months and months before I made my decision. I am getting very excited. Who did yours? So you've lost 15 lbs so far? Great! That's wonderful. Keep up the great work!

Any January 2010 Bandsters????
Hey Celia! Thanks for it tip! I'm making a list of all the things I'll be needing. That certainly helps. I never would have thought of the chapstick and lotion...

Any January 2010 Bandsters????
Welcome Cowgirl! Congrats on a successful surgery. Thanks for the tip on the Gas-X. Anything else you can think of?? Since I'm traveling for surgery, I want to make sure I have EVERYTHING I need. Any tips??

Any January 2010 Bandsters????
HI EVERYONE! I am a fellow January Bandster and have a huge favor to ask. I've been posting for several weeks on this thread and am so excited to go through this journey with you. However.... I am being banded January 15th in Tijuana, MX. I am 28 and 230 starting with a goal of 130. I know it is frowned upon, but as of now, I have decided not to tell anyone about this surgery. Because of that, I was wondering if there would be someone who would be willing to check on my throughout the travel and surgical process. I know we are pretty anonymous right now but I'd really appreciate it so I can have a little piece on mind. I promise to eventually tell my sister but I'm just worried she will be upset with me so I want to tell her afterward. Is there anyone willing to swap numbers and actually TALK and promise to stay in touch with me throughout the process? Yes, I will be in Mexico, but I will have my cell phone so it won't cost YOU anything, just me. Any takers??

Keeping surgery a secret
I literally haven't told a single person. And my surgery is scheduled for January 15th. And it's going to be in Tijuana, MX. So I really should tell someone as a "just in case." But I'm a super secretive person when it comes to my weight. I can talk about anything, ANYTHING with my best friend. But I could never tell her this. I know I need to tell someone. And I will. I just don't know who, or when. I plan on going to support groups and possibly telling people afterward once i see success. But I'm just worried about the judgment ahead of time. Is that silly??

January 15th Bansters??
HELLO! I'm super excited for us!! It's coming up sooo fast! I am using the pre-made ones. I didn't know which to choose so I bought Walmart brand in the plastic container and the Special K ones in the plastic container to see what i like better. My doc just said to keep it 225 cal or less. I noticed after I bought Walmart ones that those are 250 but the Special K is only 190 so I will just drink one of each per day. I wanted the pre-made because I think if I made my own I would end up going over the 225. I was a slacker and was supposed to start on the 2nd but I started on the 4th (yesterday) I am actually surprised that I'm not real hungry. I'm suffering more of the "head hunger" than anything else. How are you feeling? I also just bought a Wii Balance Board and several different fitness games. I should be receiving them by mail tomorrow. I'm excited to start a fitness routine as well. From what I've read, that is a HUGE part of your success.

January 14, 2009 Bandsters...where are you?!
Hi guys! I am scheduled for my surgery on the 15th but no one replied to my post, so may I join yours?? :smile2: I started my pre-op diet yesterday. And I can't believe how great I feel. The SLIGHT hunger pains are nothing compared to how crappy I would feel previously when I overate. It's crazy what we do to our bodies. I am learning to ignore the "head hunger" which previously ruled my life. Here's my pre-op diet: I am drinking a Protein shake for Breakfast and dinner and a lean cuisine for lunch. I can have a green salad with only the spray dressing if I get hungry and a SF popsicle for dessert. I had the salad yesterday but didn't even need the popsicle. My shakes are pretty yummy and satisfy my need for "sweet." I am having surgery in Tijuana, MX. Anyone else going there? Have you all stocked up on clear broths yet? I am going out today to do that...

Need some encouragement...
Oh my goodness! Well I just read your whole thread and am glad to see a happy result. I'm worried I will have the same problem that you faced. I am having my surgery in Tijuana, MX Jan 15th and he gives fills/aftercare for free, but the cost to fly would be more than if I paid a local doctor. I am looking for an aftercare physician in my area that has unlimited fills/visits. How did you find yours? Thanks!
