  1. Well said carolinagirl! 9.5 years before she decided to change, means it worked for her for 9 years. If she was a yoyo weight person, like me, she would be real happy that it worked for that long! I am happy with my band, because it doesn't allow me to over eat. I can eat the wrong things, but that is not the bands fault! Karen
  2. I can't eat after certain hours either. I can usually drink later than 8, but if I eat, it will cause coughing and some reflux of acid during the night. By the way, I have had 2 slips, and the lst one I had to have a revision to my band. I now have had to have a small amount removed, which took care of most reflux problems. Karen
  3. He probably meant it is a joke, but it came out unusually cruel! Many people just don't think before opening their mouths. we have all, well most of us, have been in the situation of "open mouth, insert foot". As others said, you need to rise above these folks! Bless you and welcome to the banded life! Karen

Sounds lie a great time. congrats on a wonderful weekend!
  5. Congrats on that, I guess it is also a NSV!!!!
  6. You ladies have done magnificent. I tried not telling people that I had surgery because I didn't want people to think I took the easy way out. At 1st, only family knew, then wait staff, because I would cut my meal in half to go home. Soon, hubby would tell other people because he was proud of me. A lot of people do not remember me being 255 lbs. My grandchildren see pictures of grandma, and they don't know me! Anyway, just wanted to say, I lost weight for ME!!Best wishes and share with those you want to and not with those you don't. By the way, got my surgery at 61. By then, I had probably gained and lost over 1000 lbs during my 40 years of yoyo dieting! Best wishes, Karen
  7. Hi, I read your 1st entry and then your update. Sounds like you are trying to get yourself together, and succeeding. We need an update on your July 26th apt. Know that we are here for you. Stay with your schooling. Sounds like it is your best bet to a better life. My kids went to school in Nebraska, too. Join us for encouragement, here. It is a great group as you have found out. Best wishes, Karen
  8. Oh yes, great! Makes warm water palatable! Best wishes for your recovery!
  9. Take it slowly, you just had major surgery! Drink enough to stave off the dizziness. Try Gatorade, or some other kind of protein mix, Special K has one to mix with water. Try having a popcicle, too! for gas, walking is good, also Gas-x tabs that melt on your tongue are helpful.
  10. GAS!! Try some gas-x, and walk!!!
  11. Definitely call ASAP to get that band loosened. You should not be vomiting every time you eat. Best wishes. Karen
  12. I agree, try the single serving treats. They are okay and will stop your cravings! Best wishes, I, too, had the cravings, but am allergic, so finally took myself off of dairy approx 1 month ago. They are hard to stay off!!!!!
  13. Yes, liquids in, liquids out! sorry, but it's a fact! My best to you, stay close to a bathroom!
  14. Go ahead, that guy! You are doing great! congrats, and this is also, a great NSV!!!
  15. I just turned 65. I was banded when I was 61. I have had my band for 3 1/2 years. I had wanted some kind of surgery for years, but had neither researched it, nor heard of lapbanding. I was never, too, self conscious until I was too heavy for one of the tables at a medical center, and they had to send me to another center which had a table for over 250 lbs. Then I was embarrassed! I was ready, too because of my arthritis and high blood pressure. Welcome to lapband!
  16. It will get better, but congrats on the NSV of downsized clothes!
  17. I agree, we see a topic that we want to comment on, and then comment. But, there is a a Lapband Veterans Forum, but it is not always very active. So, join in wherever you want. Welcome back.Karen
  18. I, now, stay away from both of them. We(hubby and I) bought Vega, which has neither soy or whey protein. I add water and it is delicious. It is made with pea protein, sacha inchi protein, sprouted whole grain brown rice protein, and alfalfa protein. We stay away from soy products, adn are allergic to dairy so no whey. It is a little pricey, but goes a long way. 26 grams protein, and 2.8 g sugar. Bets wishes, Karen
  19. Best wishes to you both!
  20. Congratulations Joel, you are definitely an inspiration to the men who see mostly women on this site. I hope that others can follow in your footsteps. You and your family must be very proud of the job well done! bet wishes to a wonderful future!!Karen
  21. Kind of agree with NJDad! Take the smaller rides that do not push on your stomach. Stay away from rides with tight restraints that might push on tummy or port. Enjoy and best wishes!
  22. You would not be able to chug the water, as you are swollen and it will back up, possibly making you spit up. I can't remember when I was able to drink normally, but I am 3 1/2 years out, and still do not chug. I fI do, I get the same reaction as I told you above. If you feel real thrisy, have a popcicle! Good luck, Karen
  23. So sorry, Donna! huge ((((hugs)))) for you, and prayers for your brother and the family. God bless you all! And Sharpie says it best. You can do your best to be his friend and your own best friend right now. We are here for you, too!
  24. Loved this!!!
