    11/19/09: Another day

Hey, ldswims! You are doing everything right and heading in the right direction! I, for one, enjoy your "drivel"!!! Keep posting, and keep up the good work - I am rooting for you!!!

    I am starving

I have read that some sleevers don't lose their hunger till they start on solids...I'm still pre-surgery, so I am no expert!! Hopefully, it will be short-lived!!!

I am sorry for your stressful week! I'm glad you got to sort thru things w/DH, and congratulations on your audition!!! Way to go!!!!

    I am normal.

I went back to see the LPC that my dr. uses for his bariatric patients yesterday. She thinks I should go with the sleeve. I am feeking more positive after talking with her. I think the sleeve is the right surgery for me. My GFs are in support of me doing the surgery. My husband... not so much. I have not told him I want the sleeve - he still thinks I want the band. I am worried about him not wanting me to do it, since it is drastic and permanent. Also, with a 33 BMI, I will be self pay. We can afford it, but I know my DH would rather not spend the money (cheapskate). The therapist, Deborah, taled to me about my inertia. I had been feeling so shameful about my "laziness" and feeling like it was a permanent character flaw, like it was all that I am. She told me she did not see me as lazy. And she's right. When it is something I want to do, I am NOT lazy. I have 2 master's degrees and am accomplished at my job. How could I do those things if I was "lazy"? I have been internalizing my husband's values - you have to work hard, if it's too easy it's not worth it, don't pay for something you can do yourself, etc. I had to fight to get a maid, because he thinks we should do all of the stuff she does (I HATE cleaning). And by looking for my self worth from my husband, I felt like a failure, since I am not doing the things he thinks are valuable. Wow. What a revelation that was! I have to start doing things for me. I can say that we will pay someone to landscape the yard, or paint the living room, or wash my car. He might not agree, but that doesn't mean that I can't still do those things. We don't have to agree on everything (again, what a revelation!). And now the power in the relationship is changing. I inherited $ from my mom (died Feb. 09) which allows me to have more freedom. I am almost to the point of thinking that he can't say no to me anymore! So I will take care of myself. I will have the surgery. YAY for ME!!!

PCP is "on board" with VSG

I saw my PCP yesterday for my itchy ears (allergies) and told him I was considering WLS. He said he was on board, since it would help me with my HBP, high cholesterol and diabetes (type 1). He asked me who I was planning to use as my surgeon. Turns out, Dr. St. Laurent (my doc) was who he was going to recommend! He also agreed that the sleeve is the way to go. I feel very reassured that he was in support of my decision. Things are looking more and more positive! Now if I can just get in to see Dr. St. Laurent!
  6. Hey, ready! I am pre-sleeve in Houston, too! I see you are going in tomorrow - good luck and let me know how it went!

    65-70 lbs to lose

Isn't hope a wonderful thing? I hope to be sleeved in early January. My BMI is 33, so I figure I need to lose about 60 - 65 lbs. Looking forward to joining you losers!!!
  8. I looked up your dr., and I realized that I went to Dr. Wilkenfeld (sp)'s seminar awhile back. He's in that group. I just remember how strict he sounded, like you can never have a piece of bread EVER AGAIN! I did not like his demeanor very much. Of course, that says nothing about Dr. Hollis. I think Wilkenfeld was trying to "weed out" possible underacheivers, to make his stats look better. Just my thought.

Anyway, I appreciate you corresponding with me. I would still like to keep in touch, if you would be willing. I really enjoyed reading your posts and I think we can still support each other! Even if our paths diverge!

    Does anyone else do this???????

Hasn't happened to me....yet! Still pre-sleeve and that whole Breakfast (2 eggs, hashbrown casserole ( I use to loveeeee that ) 1 sausage- 1 bacon- 1 piece of ham.... and biscuits and grits.) sounds doable to me! yum! I can't wait to not finish my food!!!! You guys give me hope!!!
  10. I can certainly see why you would want the band if you are thinking about a family :) I'm way past that! My husband of 5 years has a grown daughter with a baby, so I am now a grandmother at 46!

I am using Dr. St. Laurent. I met w/my PCP yesterday and he's all for the sleeve AND would have sent me to Dr. St. Laurent! So I am feeling pretty reassured in my choices.

Of course, it is a VERY personal decision, and I support you in yours!!! :)

can't think about anything but VSG!

Here I am at work, not working. Again. I can't focus on anything but getting VSG. I am reading all of the threads, looking at the pictures, thinking about the surgery...NOT doing my work. I was never very good at using my time wisely. There are lots of things I COULD do here, but nothing very pressing. So I just sit, perusing the website, feeling guilty. Why am I such a procrastinator? Why do I keep putting things off? If I would just take one small task and follow it through, I know I would feel better and want to do more. I think I put off things that I am not sure of all of the steps - when I hit a small roadblock, I stop, "well, I guess I'll do that later." And I let the negativity push me further down. My "all or nothing" view causes me to throw in the towel for the day if I start off bad. Am I using the surgery focus to keep me from having to work? The therapist said I am feeling "HOPE". Is that why I am so drawn to the website and spend all day thinking about it? I will get all of my work done eventually. I always do. I just wish I could be more proactive...

11/17/09: I seem to have inadvertently misplaced a few pounds

Well, I think I am going to get the sleeve. I met with the bariatric counselor twice, and she thinks the sleeve would be better for me. Plus, since Cigna doesn't cover the sleeve, I don't have to try to meet their requirements. Just self pay. And convince hubby! I was going to have to gain/use weights/etc. to meet the requirements, also. Now - no worries. All of those ideas I sent were things I thought about doing! Who are you going to have do your band? (forgive me if you told me already!)
  14. Still just obsessing about getting the sleeve. I finally told hubby last night that I am wanting the sleeve rather than the band. He says, "Why don't you try eating less and exercising?" Men are so clueless.

    spaghetti squash?

Have you guys tried Dreamfields pasta? They make elbows, spaghetti, etc., and only have 5 g digestible carbs per serving (41 total carbs, but only 5 are counted.) I tried it the other day. I am a type 1 diabetic, so I know what pasta does to my blood sugar...and Voila - only 5 grams were digested! And it tastes just like regular, bad-for-you pasta! Also, since the other carbs are not digested, they are considered fiber. Bonus! I bought mine at Kroger, I believe, but they sell it online at www.buydreamfields.com

    My tummy actually growled ! ! !

Wow - I can hardly wait! Sounds wonderful, Tiffy!
  18. Maria,

What part of town do you live in? I am near Tomball. How has your experience been so far? Who did your sleeve? Thank you for replying to my post!

    Surgery in 2 days!

As a hopeful sleever, your post inspires me. Very well said. Thank you for "putting it out there"!

    My OUT OF CONTROL moment

My personal weak spot is birthday cake! I think I have eaten nearly a 1/4 sheet in one evening! Costco makes these amazing sheet cakes with a middle layer of either cheesecake or chocolate mousse! With buttercream frosting!!! I would think if it's birthday cake, you should be able to eat as much as you want! Hence my current condition...

    Houston area sleevers?

Thank you, Tiffy, Shonda, and Vegas. I already feel welcomed! I really appreciate the way you all are willing to share your personal experiences. I think this is the best place to get info and support. I look forward to being an active member! :thumbup1: Ren?
  22. Girl, what progress you have made! I loved looking at your pictures. I see that you have curly hair like me, and that you straightened it in your pictures w/the strapless dress. Looks great - both ways! Congratulations! You are an inspiration!

    Newbie

Hi Lynh, I, too, started looking at the band and now want the sleeve. I am pre-op and hope to get my sleeve at the first of 2010. My ins. does not cover the sleeve, so I will be self pay. I wish you luck on your journey! Looks like we will be doing it together! Ren?

    leaning towards the sleeve

Hi sleevers! I have been researching lap band for several months now, and am now considering the sleeve. I am a low BMI (currently 33) and have type 1 diabetes, hypertension, & high cholesterol. I have seen several bandsters make the switch on lapbandtalk. I would love to hear from any of you that were going to get or actually had the band, then went with the sleeve. It is permanent (obviously) so I want to make the most well-informed decision I can. Thanks for your input.

11/08/09: I had an interesting break through yesterday...

Awesome!!! Isn't that how skinny people operate? That IS a breakthrough!!! I predict great success for you with the band!!!
