Infamous Left shoulder pain
I searched LBT for this left shoulder pain and thought I would put my "new info" in a post. I started with my left shoulder pain on my 3rd day after surgery. Everything I read said it was gas. It was not gas. This felt like a nerve kind of pain. It was down deep in the center of my left collar/shoulder area. After about the 2nd week of surgery it would come and go. I thought it was after I ate...but after reading the old posts on this subject I thought it was time for me to listen to my body. Well...this is what i found: If I have not eaten enough and I am still hungry the pain in my shoulder is so intense I can't even concentrate at work or to do anything else. If I haven't eaten in a while same thing. As soon as I eat it immediately goes away. How weird is this??? I happened to be talking to the Nutritionist yesterday on the subject of weight gain and caloric intake post surgery when i mentioned this shoulder pain....her response, "Oh yah, that is very normal. It will either kill you when you need to eat or when you have eaten to much! Just listen to your body" It would have been nice to know about this pre-surgery, just so those of us that like to be prepared can be. I have listened to my shoulder allday today and I have had little discomfort allday! Hope this helps those that have had the INFAMOUS shoulder pain!

Totally disgusted
Hey there.....I feel you. I can only tell you what I have talked with my doc and nutritionist about as well as my own experience being a behavioral science specialist. I lost extremely fast the month before surgery and pre-op. (As I always do when I eat healthy) and the week following surgery I lost another 10+lbs. I was not able to get much of anything in. fast forward to the present: I am eating 3 small "meals" and snack. Less than 1000 calories and cardio at least 30 minutes a day...and I have "gained 3 lbs". Im OK with that. My body has just went through a MAJOR ordeal and after 35 yrs of abusing my tummy, I have stopped! It needs to adjust. I also am addicted to the numbers on my scale and have learned that I can weigh myself every morning if I want but I don't let it dictate my day or the final outcome! Please remember this mind game we have played with our weight and body has gone on for a long time and after 2 or 3 weeks it is not fair if we judge what our possibilities are in that short time frame. I hope you get this....and keep on keepin on!

November 09 Knockouts! Check in here POST surgery! :)
Im glad to hear everyone is doing so well. My first week was very rough, however after the air bubble was removed from my band I just continued to improve every day. Thanksgiving was 2 weeks post-op for me and I saw the Surgeon on the wednesday before Thanksgiving. He cleared me for soft foods and to gradually add as I can tolerate. I have been eating at least 2 small soft meals daily and back to step aerobics at least 30 minutes daily. The last 3 days I have had 3 small calorie/high protein meals and 1 evening snack of usually SF pudding or yogurt. Weight loss has stalled but the doctor told me it would this week. Im not concerned.......It will kick start again! Good luck everyone!

Pulling/crampy sensation on my left side...
I had this same pain since day 4 after surgery. Mine was because I was dehydrated and not able to get enough liquids down. Your kidney will have pain and is almost on your hip if you put your hand on your hip(left side). Your kidney starts to get sore when it doesn't get enough water to flush. If your urine is dark yellow or you produce very little........get more fluids. It may take a few days to get rid of it. Good luck!!!

Need Support Please
Hi there. When I read your intro I could so relate. Although I am older than you, I was once a young, single mother working FT and raising a small child and had severe weight issues. I am curious why you didn't get your fills when you started struggling.....I have always been able to lose the weight in a healthy manner but NEVER able to maintain for more than about 5 months. If I were you, and it is only my personal opinion is that you need to make an appt with your surgeons office and talk. You can absolutely do this again and get on the right track!!!! Keep me informed and I will friend you so we can "support each other" Best of luck....Stacy

Severe Neck and throat pain post surgery
Did they give you pain meds??? I had some pretty bad neck and throat pain. It helped me to actually lay on my left side with a pillow proped under my neck and another pressed into my upper chest. I also did large arm swings (like when in elementary school) a couple of times a day. This allowed the gas to escape and stretched my muscles. About 4 days for me......Hang in there. It will get better.

Pain!
My directive was very similar. stage one, days 2-7 clear liquid. stage two, days 8-14 full liquids. (Includes yogurt, cream soup-no chunks, SF pudding) The post op diets seem to vary greatly by location of surgeon and the doctor. Enjoy your next stage!

Yay! Off all meds!
Way to go! That is incredible.....and just think, a few yrs ago, this surgery wasn't medically necess.?????????

Thanks so much! I feel like a different person.

Lost: Two 50-pound bags of sand
CONGRATS! They always say everything in moderation. It sounds like you have bonded with your band and gained the benefits of it.

My update after doc visit-post OP
Hi my wonderful support! Just to refresh....surgery on 11/12, problem getting liquids down, dehydrated, vomiting 1X, and nausea. I saw the surgeon this morning. I was down 13lbs from last Thursday and he was concerned. After talking and really listening to me, he thought what might be happening is that I had a gas bubble stuck in my band! He goes to my port and sure enough......1/2cc of saline AND 1cc of air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Almost instant relief when it was removed. The nurse brought me a cup of water and i had more drank in 5 minutes than I was able to get down all morning long! I AM SOOOOO HAPPY! He also sent me for bloodwork to see how low my electrolytes were and if he needed to admit me back into hospital for dehydration. I am confident now, that won't be necessary. Thank you all for youe suggestions and support

One week post-op/ full feeling
Thanks everyone for your support! Talked to the nurse again today and she has me scheduled in the morning to see if any liquid was left in the band during surgery. She said at this point I should be able to drink liquids with no discomfort at all. She was concerned because I can't get a 16 oz protein drink down and no other form of nutrition. I have lost 13 lbs since surgery on the 12th. I don't want to lose it this way... Hopefully, relief will come in the morning

One week post-op/ full feeling
Hi all. I have a weird question. If your not supposed to feel restricted or full until after your first fill, why do I feel full with any liquid I drink at all? Even 3 little sips of water. It will take me at least 6 full hours to drink 20 ounces of water and that is with a very uncomfortable pressure and bubbly mess going on inside. If your supposed to be able to drink normal amounts of water and not feel restricted, I just don't get it. Liquid runs through even the smallest of space........Please help me to figure out what is going on! I am losing patience quick with this. I have done everything I am supposed to and this isn't going well. On a positive note......my pain is almost all gone in the incision areas:thumbup:

Pain!
I hear ya girls!(and guys) i am so uncomfortable everytime I drink. I have huge burps that give me some release though!I went back to work yesterday and had a good day. (I run a foster youth program.) Mostly desk job. This morning, I added 4oz of milk for my protein and drank 3 oz and was so sick!!! 2 hours later, I belched massively, (gross at work) and I am starting to feel better. This is not easy....

pre-op clear diet?????
I was just banded on the 12th sooo....Im a baby. However.... Clear fluids preop and no protein???? I don't think I have ever heard of that. I only had to do a 7 day pre-op low calorie, high protein diet, and 24 hours of clear liquid only. Protein drink included! After reading so much on these boards and so many other surgeons ways of doing this, it may your doc's way! When are you scheduled for surgery?
