Hi. I'm about 12 weeks out from bypass surgery. I've lost 50 lbs!! Yay me!
Anyway, I've read that the BC pill doesn't work the same1(99%) after surgery. So I am going to look into an IUD, but in the meantime I just have to say it's 100% true. My BC pill that I have been on for over 3 years is not working. I ovulated this month and my period came 14 days later... Luckily I am not sexually active. I am on the pill bc my periods are really bad.
I tried to talk to my PCP last week and she said she had never heard of it but she also hadn't done much research on it either. So we decided to let my body get used to the weight loss for a few more months before changing anything.
Well the last 3 days have been tortuous for me. I've not been bedridden like this in a long time.
I can't imagine going thru this for another 2-3 months...?
I'm thinking I just need to go ahead and make an appt to get an IUD and be done with this.
Has anyone tried the patch? My insurance covers BC at 100%. I've read the patch is just as good BC it's absorbed through the skin and not the body.
Anybody have any suggestions? I had an IUD many years ago. Had it removed BC we were trying to have kid #2.... And I've had 3 miscarriages.... Not sure if it's related or not but I am not 100% sure that I'm done having kids. Not currently in a relationship but the future is always on my mind. I know not to get pregnant for at least 18 months so I am trying to prevent that should I ever be in a relationship between now and then.
Plus my time of the month is currently unbearable.
Sorry about ranting.... Thanks for listening!!

Oh by the way... Call your surgeon you could be dehydrated. That can cause severe nausea and food aversion. It happened to me week 3 post op.
I am almost 12 weeks out.

Not true at all. I have unflavored Protein powder from online. I can get the name of it if you want.
I add it to Soup, and ground chicken.
It doesn't add flavor just a little thickness. Add a little at a time. You can get samples at Bariatric Advantage for less than 5$.

I struggle with not drinking with my meals. I barely get my Water in and I want to drink when I eat. It's so hard.

My emotions are better. I've come to the conclusion that it's during PMS that I'm a raging hormonal beast. Identifying that has helped a little but it doesn't help- the rage and anger. But I am able to tell myself that it's just a few days, it will pass and I'll feel normal again.
I guess it doesn't help to also be dealing with my Althziemers mother who has maybe 2 years left. It hit our family kind of fast and we are in the stubborn/aggression phase and its touch and go. Looking at home health and trying to be their for my dad is draining.
My son is so good to me. He understands these moments and really tries to lighten the mood when I tell him I'm emotional and irritated and just need to be alone. He's my lil rock ????!!

I'm doing better. I really feel like I'm doing something wrong.... I have been at the same weight for over 3 weeks. I cannot lose more than a few ounces.
I write down everything I eat. I'm getting 60-75 grams of Protein 48-60 oz of Water.... I get to the gym every other day. What gives?
I do go back to work on Wednesday so in hoping that might help with getting me more out of my comfort zone.
I do find myself looking or wanting to snack at night. I found a low calorie air pop popcorn, but I think that might be causing me to not lose?

Today was a little better. Still feeling sad.
I went to the gym. I only did 30 minutes. I can't shake this feeling.
Last night I ended up with a Migraine and that certainly didn't help my mood.
I just tell myself that tomorrow will be better.
    Thanks guys!!

I had my 4 week post op appointment today and something's just have been piling up and after just a 1 lb loss in 2 weeks I cried all thru my appointment. Part of it is just the emotional roller coaster this surgery puts you through and then the scale not moving.
Apparently it's normal. My dr is so awesome and took almost an hour with me. She told me to hide my scale, not to look at how many calories I'm burning on the machines at the gym, and to just relax. She said my body is going thru the WTF phase and is holding onto everything i am putting in my body.
I mean I understand that I get it but my only source of support is this forum. My best friend turned her back on me when I was in the hospital- she has her own issues-- my mother has Altheimers....
I return to work next week and looking forward to it.
I try so hard to be positive and hold my head up, but it's all hitting me today. I'm sad and feeling depressed. I've tried reaching out to my sister but she is too busy.
How do you explain or help yourself thru times like this? I just feel so angry... And I never feel like this. Going to the gym didn't help... I took something for my anxiety and it's not working.
I just feel lost. I'm not sure if this relAtes to anybody else? I don't want a therapist bc it's too expensive.
The support group doesn't meet for two more weeks and it's kind of out of my way but I'm willing to make the hike.
Sorry to unload on here... Didnt know where else to go.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and support. I was back in the gym today ???? and am getting my Water and Protein in. My nausea is gone (knock on wood).
I am down 25 lbs in 3 weeks woohoo! Not worried that the scale hasn't moved in a week. But I did get into a pair of old jeans ????
I'll take that as a win!

I am feeling better today. I'm taking the anti nausea medicine every six hours I've been able to drink power ade today
The funny thing about soda- before surgery I maybe had 2 sodas a week. I had been able to kick that habit awhile ago. But lately with being sick I've wanted to sip on a soda bc that's what I always did before when I was sick to my stomach.

Yes!! My dr called it " bariatric brain" she said it will pass. It's also coming from lowering your carb intake as well. The brain uses carbs. So if you are not taking in a lot of carbs- this happens. I have it too.

I'm not sure if we've talked about medical ID bracelets? But I did get one , well actually 2. They came from Laurenshope.com. I like them bc the information is on the inside of the ID tag and I can mix the Bracelet selection whenever I want. I can get the bracelet from like Michaels or other lil craft stores. Check out their website and request a catalogue. I am also a diabetic and have sulfur allergies so I think it's a good investment. It was about 25$ for each.

2/25 was my surgery. Since my pre-op visit 2/9 I think I've lost about 20lbs. I will see my dr for first post op on Tuesday so I will have a better number. I'm a little upset that I am still having to take insulin. With my limited calories and carb and zero sugar intake. I assumed I would be ok.... I guess I have to come to terms that my body is just not able to produce insulin at all.
I had a cold the last few days which slowed down my excercise but I did go for a walk today. I also took my first post op pic to start documenting the weight loss. Also finally after almost a week and the help of Miralax each day I was able to go to the bathroom.
I'm starting to eat Greek yogurt and had homemade chili tonight. It was so good and my pouch told me when I was full and it was definitely about 4oz. I had started to think my dr had made my pouch bigger (lol). But I think I'm just able to eat at least one meal out of my day. It's been 2 hours since dinner and I am still full, not uncomfortable, but have no desire to eat. YAY!
My shakes don't have this effect on me. I'm trying to get around the "head" hunger and the adjustments to my life. I'm pretty sure that my dr will release me to head back to the gym so I'm looking forward to that. I prob won't spend 2 hours in there like I used to, but I'm looking forward to getting back there.

I'm 3 days post op had GB 2/25. I came home yesterday. I'm trying to stay off the pain meds bc I feel super buzzed and can't concentrate. My pain has been ok. Was much better after they removed the drainage tube, I think it was on a nerve. So I am trying to focus more on getting my liquids in and my Vitamins and mayb one Protein Shake. Only bc it all seems overwhelming and I can sip on a cup of plain coffee and get 10 oz in and switch to flavored water. My discharge nurse said focus on staying hydrated first. So that is my goal. I gained almost 10 pounds of Fluid but I'm not worried about that. I will wait for my first dr appt in 10 days to figure out my weight loss.
