  1. In 2009 I was banded at 255 pounds. I lost over 100 lbs but my band slipped in 2012, when removing it the doctor performed the sleeve. I have never felt the type of restriction with the sleeve as I did with the band. I went through a depressive time because of tough events in my life. I am now back over 200 lbs. with little to no restriction. I am trying to get back on track but it seems so hard. I want to ask my surgeon to go in and tighten things up, I feel like it would help and also be a mental restart to give me the focus, determination, and success I had with the band. I'm so embarrassed to even be back over 200 lbs that I haven't made an appointment to see him. Has anybody had a revision and if so how did you discuss it with your doctor?
  2. I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Cherice, I was born, raised and currently live in Los Angeles. June 99 at 255 I was banded. Lost 60lbs that summer. I stayed there for a while, then all of a sudden I started to lose again and ended up 147!bs. My band slipped and had to be removed in Jan 12, my surgeon performed the sleeve at that time. Since then I have gained and am now back to 194. I do not have the restriction the band provided, have been making horrible food choices and no exercise. Life has kicked my butt, my daughters father passed and the love of my life dumped me all these in a span of three months. However I want to re submerge myself back into the wls life. I'm here to rediscover my motivation, find inspiration and also share my journey. Thank you for reading this and I hope to interact with you all more!

    Black Women Lose Weight Slower...

I agree it is slower. I watch a lot of weight loss shows, such as biggest loser and black people are never as successful as others. I would love for someone to investigate this topic. Also, I think we carry weight differently. Another race at 180lbs looks super obese while we can look kind of fit.
  4. Happy 34th Birthday sweetcalichic!

    Soda Questions

I've been banded since 09 and avoided carbonation for over a year. I can now enjoy a soda every now and then. Someone was right when they said let it fizz out a little. I like it really cold so putting a can on ice helps.

  8. My band has slipped, I'm having surgery tomorrow. My doctor comes to talk to me and throws me for a loop by suggesting I switch and go for a gastric sleeve. I was banded in 09 and have lost 106 lbs. Any advice? I'm in maintain mode now at 149lbs. In the long run, will the sleeve be better? I don't want another band slippage? I'm really confused!
  9. I didn't think my doctor would unfill for personal reasons but I asked and they said yes!
  10. I haven't been getting fills in well over a year. I love my new body and reward it by buying nice clothes and doing more things than thinking about food. Its not that I want to eat everything on the cruise, I just want to be comfortable and not get stuck.
  11. Thank you all for the great feedback. I will talk to my doctor when I get there. I'm already thinking I don't want a complete unfill but maybe just a little less then what I have now. I will let you all know how it goes!

    Me

  13. I've been banded since 2009 and have scheduled my first unfill because I'm going on a cruise and just want a band break. I've lost 100lbs, I feel like I deserve it! Have you done this ? How was it? Did you eat like crazy?

Vomiting and Depression after Lap Band Surgery

Hang in there! I vomit every single day. Sometimes liquids are even hard to keep down. I feel your pain in wanting to eat normal again, I think about it all the time. When out with friends its the worst! But, with all that said, I'm even more excited about my success. I'm 20 lbs from 100 lbs lost, down almost 10 sizes and for the first time in my life able to purchase clothes off the rack. My look on it is, I ate what I wanted for 20 years and was fat and unhappy and still gaining, being able to eat chili cheese pastraimi fries, hot dogs and whatever else is so not worth it.

Noises all the time. Throat noise, stomach noise. Its just one of those things we have to get use to! Love when I find out I'm not the only one!
