  1. Don't feel vain at all! You just want to experience all the things that your weight has kept you from. Maybe it is a little vain of all of us, but maybe that's just what the doctor ordered I hear ya on movin' like a person instead of an elephant. I can't tell you how many times I've knocked things over with my hips or my butt!
  2. Do not worry about the clear liquid diet. The two days before surgery of course you'll be hungry, but it will probably be several days after surgery until you start getting an appetite again. By the time you're really wanting to eat again you'll probably be onto the next stage of your diet. The idea of surgery is scary to most of us, but it's worth it in the end. You just have to keep your eye on the prize and realize it will be done and over with before you know it. Former is right, keep your mind on something you could never have because of your weight and that will help motivate you to stay on track. Good luck!
  3. Yay! I'll raise my soup spoon to that!
  4. Hey lady. I didn't have my first one until the 4th day of surgery and then I had my second one on the same day (today). My doctor prescribed my a stool softener pill, but the pharmacist actually suggested something less harsh. I took the pharmacist up on his advice, and I'm so glad I did. If you don't want to go the harsh laxative route might I suggest Pedia-Lax. It's a liquid stool softener that you mix with juice or milk and it's generally meant for children. Anyway, I haven't felt like I've taken a laxative at all besides the yucky taste of the stuff. Also, are you still taking your pain meds? The pain meds will back you up, so you might find that you're more regular when you stop taking them if you're still on them. Just my two cents.
  5. Jason: I support you 100% in your decision. You were able to lose almost 100 pounds without the Lapband, that is no small feat. It is more than possible that you will be able to reach your goal and of course losing weight naturally is always a safer and healthier option. I really hope you do well and please keep us updated with your progress. Maybe you could start a blog about your weight loss so we can watch you shrink! God Bless!
  6. Good luck on your surgeries tomorrow ladies! Broth, yuck! I would rather starve than drink broth. Bleh
  7. I'm so glad that you're back to feeling like yourself. I think the first week or so post-op is the scariest part about the whole surgery, because you wonder if you're ever going to feel normal again. Like Former said, it's all about taking baby steps. I applaud you on your #2's... I just had my first since surgery and I had to tell everyone (I'm sure they weren't as excited to hear about it as I was, though)...lol
  8. I don't think you're being over-sensitive at all. It SUCKS when everyone else is eating and all you have is your stupid drinks. However, I suppose it is just something we all have to get used to. We can't expect everyone around us to change their eating habits just because we have. We're going to be in a lot of situations at home and at work and out with friends when we're going to be tempted with things that we simply cannot eat. But don't think I'm siding with your family. Last night I watched my boyfriend eat an entire Burger King Whopper meal. At first I was jealous, but then I was just disgusted. Ewww
  9. My first reward is at 40lbs, I thought this would be a good first goal because whenever I used to diet I would get to about 30lbs lost before I would fail or plateau or something. But anyway, I'm going to get a nice pair of boots to go with this sexy wool jacket I bought for this winter. What? I live in Wisconsin.
  10. LL67. I don't really have my appetite back, but I think I am suffering from "eyes are bigger than my stomach" disorder... i.e. I really want to eat a cheeseburger right now, but obviously I would probably not be able to get more than a bite or two down (not that I would try it at this point ladies). I get hungry when I see other people eating so I assume that it's just all mind games for me. So what are you doing to keep yourself from starving on that liquid diet? Lots of soup? You know, I have never liked soup and I think after this experience I'm going to ban in altogether. Lol
  11. Wow Jason, 50 Heparin injections! I thought I was going to have to take Lovenox injections after my surgery but my doctor said I didn't need them. I had a Heparin injection before my surgery and a Lovenox after my surgery and the good news is that they don't hurt at all. I didn't even feel the needles, just a slight burning sensation from the actual injection. I've heard it's because there aren't too many nerves in that part of the stomach. You are lucky that you live so close to where you're having surgery. That will make it so much more comfortable for you when it's time for you to go home. Do you know how long you will be staying in the hospital?
  12. Oh I agree, I must have made jello every day that I was on the pre-op diet. But no worries guys, you won't even feel hungry for quite a while after surgery. So the end is near!

  14. Lotus: Please stop beating yourself up. Of course the lasagna was a mistake, but there is really nothing you can do about it now. You learned from it and I'm sure you won't screw up on your diet again. I know some people on here were harsh to you, but they meant well. Just ignore the people who want to put you down. Don't let a few people stop you from receiving the support that all the rest of us have to offer. It's a good thing that you realized the error in what you were doing, but there is so no need to feel like you are a bad person because of it. You have real friends on here, you know who we are and we're still going to be there for you and support you the whole way. Remember, we're in this together.
  15. I didn't have any "what am I about to do?" moments, but after surgery one of the first things I thought was "what did I just do?" At the time it didn't seem like the pain and the discomfort was worth it. Thank God for pain meds!
  16. Hey there! I feel like I haven't talked to everyone in so long... lol. Anyway, Today is my third day post-op and I have been able to do a lot. Of course I am not lifting anything over 10lbs like the doc said, but I'm definitely moving around and doing a lot. I think your body will let you know what is too much. Just make sure you following your doctors' recommendations and you should be fine. My doctor actually recommends being as mobile as possible in order to help prevent blood clots. You're lucky you only had to do three days clear liquids. I have to do a week of 'em and then another week of thickened liquids. Woe is me... lol
  17. I am doing much better with my liquids. Currently I'm getting in about 1 1/2 bottles of water a day, 2 protein drinks and a popsicle. This is a BIG improvement for me and I no longer feel dizzy anymore. I WISH I could have yogurt like you guys, I'm not allowed thickened liquids until one week post-op. Oh well, I guess it doesn't matter since there is hardly a desire.
  18. Ok, so I'm not feeling any more pain, but I still have this GIANT bottle of codeine that is still mostly full... I really shouldn't let it go to waste, should I?
  19. I love how you wrote that "it was like the heavens opened up." So sorry you were struggling with the nausea. That was me the day after my surgery. They kept trying to get me to get up and walk, but every time I would take a step I would start dry-heaving. Bleh... I kept saying to myself "what the heck did I just do?"
  20. My doctor required a longer hospital stay like yours, and let me just say it hardly matters what your bring because you simply won't care. Comfy clothes are a good idea, but besides that don't worry about it. I felt too crappy to listen to my ipod or read my book, that first day after surgery was just a blur. I didn't use any of the stuff I packed for my surgery besides my pajamas!
  21. So how are you doing? Does the site look any better? I had my own infection scare the other night with a fever. Fortunately everything is ok, but I can only imagine what you must be feeling right now. Let us know how that appointment goes on Tuesday, and good luck with the nasty antibiotics. Ick
  22. I know it is pretty common. The packet of information my doctor gave me before my surgery pretty much said something to the effect of "if we find a hernia while we're doing the surgery we'll go ahead and repair it while we're in there." I think it's pretty common in overweight people, just like the whole fatty liver issue. Just another reason to be happy that you got the surgery, am I right?
  23. Scrambled eggs are on my mushie stage list too, which starts on the 3rd week post-op. Give your nutritionist a call, I bet they'd allow it.
  24. I think you will be fine, BUT you might want to tell your surgeon about the yeast infection prior to the surgery, just in case it could be a problem. Take Sandie's advice about the yogurt. I once had a doctor tell me that plain yogurt (no sugar) would cure a yeast infection. It's worth a shot because all those intravenous antibiotics they give you post-surgery could set you up for another one. Good luck, and don't worry so much! I worried so much before my surgery, but everything turned out fine.
  25. I am feeling SO MUCH better today. Last night I got worried because I started to run a fever. I got to 100.8 and the doc said to call when it got to 100.5. Fortunately it was not due to infection and I am back down to a normal temp. today. I still haven't been able to finish an entire protein drink, but I think I figured out about how much I can drink before I feel full. I am so happy that I haven't "regurgitated" anything yet. I suppose I'll learn that lesson sooner or later, though. Oh, but check this out the nurse gave me the Heparin shot before surgery in the exact same place as the doc cut one of my incisions so now I have this HUGE bruise next to my belly button... yikes!
