Why do carbs have to be so tasty?

Kaiser Richmond Pre-op
Oh I hear ya! The only other time I lost weight (17lbs when I was 19) was on Atkins. I got so tired of eggs I had leftover chicken and guacamole for breakfast while driving to work one day! Without doing eggs, I can only suggest lunch meat or 3oz of lean ham steak or leftover chicken etc. I overdid it on cottage cheese in the beginning, and I can't go back just yet. I also would have salad for lunch, just lettuce and chicken with Ken's Steakhouse lite Asian dressing. Soo good. But I had it too much and now I'm so done with it! I think this would be easier if I liked fish. I wish I could eat tuna! I should just be a big girl and eat it. I'm totally craving pizza. My coworkers had pizza delivered these last 2 Fridays! And on Tuesday, my teacher is bringing pizza to class! It's really hard not to have some, but I'm trying. One thing I've been thinking about is this whole guilt over diet mishaps. I did a few counseling sessions while I was in high school for weight issues or something. The therapist talked about the words we use, like "bad". example- "I was bad today, I had pizza". Her point was that we internalize these feelings and we shouldn't. I'm not a bad person, I just had pizza. My boyfriend and I disagree on this. He thinks I should feel bad when I mess up on the diet while I don't think I should feel terrible. I'm still going to feel guilty but should we really beat ourselves up that much? We have to live our lives, we're changing ourselves for the better. Can't we forgive ourselves when we slip up or have we been forgiving ourselves for too long which is why we're in this situation? Any thoughts?

Tamra, I think the first week on the pre-op diet is the worst! I had no idea how much I was eating between meals. I remember sitting in front of the tv, tapping my fingers and toes because I wanted to eat. But I didn't let myself. Right now I'm stuck in the same place for the past few weeks and I hate it! It's much harder to stick to the diet when you don't see the same results. It's much easier to say "eh... what's 1 cookie/frozen yoghurt/2 cookies/handful of chips" Ugh! I'm thinking I haven't been drinking enough water lately. And I haven't been back to the gym in 5 days. Wonder why I haven't lost anything lately... lol. I re-discovered the library this week. I had requested The Beck Diet Solution so it was waiting for me when I got there. I browsed the books upstairs since I'm trying to write my stupid paper for school (Tuesday is the last class) and I also got Carnie Wilson's book "I'm still hungry". So far I like it. She's funny and I can totally relate to her. The coolest part about the new library is their super cool self check-out. You just scan your card then set you books on the counter. It reads some chip in the binding or something and they all come up on the screen, and you get a receipt with the due date. I was impressed. I'm trying to decide if I should do my homework or go to the gym. I think gym wins since it's not 11pm the night before homework is due and somehow I can't focus on homework until then. Where's the magic wand that fixes that and fixes my brain when it comes to food? If some fairy godmother is holding out on me...

Well, that's a good reason not to keep junk food in the house!

Tamra, you can have potatoes! Some people didn't lose well with the carbs, but I did fine with the diet... exactly like it says in the book. I would wait to see how you deal with it, then tweak it to your needs. Don't fret over one potato! Oh, and I know you said you don't do milk or eggs, do you do yoghurt?

Tamra, that was just dinner tonight. It was wierd, I was just not that hungry. But then I made cookies for work and had a some cookie dough. Bad bad bad! I'll usually have eggs for b-fast, either with ham or cheese or both, or neither. lol. For lunch I'll have a salad with chicken and cheese or leftovers, ie- 3 oz chicken, 1 cup zucchini or broccoli etc, 1 serving fruit. (Very wierd to count out 12 cherries or 17 grapes, but I'm determined... exluding that little cookie dough incident) Dinner is 3 oz of boneless, skinless chicken or sometimes a 3 oz hamburger. I eat the carbs, just not every day. I get really tired of the diet sometimes. Thus, tomorrow's lunch is 1/2 cup black beans with 2 oz cheese, and fruit. Today's lunch was 3 oz cheese with 5 breton crackers. One thing I've noticed, is it is a lot of food. I'll get full on all the food, but then I get hungry! It's less often now, but when I started it felt like I was overeating to get enough food to last me 4-6 hrs. I usually only get hungry now when I don't have enough protein. Today I had 2 eggs and 1 cup soy milk. Then I was starvin' like marvin before lunch. Interesting note though... Tuesday was our big potluck to say bon voyage to our laid off friends. But we had a ton of food. It was a breakfast potluck so there were some healthy options. I ate more than usual, but not too much. And, I snacked. I had a small piece of coffee cake at 3. The crazy thing was I didn't get hungry at school! I was fine until like, 9 pm! I'm hoping my extra calories will jump start my loss again! I just don't like being stalled.

Hey Ladies! I almost forgot, the guy sitting next to me at orientation fell asleep during. He also showed up really late. Like, Liz almost didn't let him in. I'm so not motivated to get to the gym today. This is what happens when I take too many days off. I don't wanna, but I gotta. Ugh. I had 1/2 cup refried black beans and 2 oz cheese for early dinner. I was starving when I got home, I figure if I get hungry after the gym I can have soy milk and it should keep me full for the rest of the night.

Whew.... Just finished reading about 7 pages or posts. Busy much ladies? Tamra, Dr. Fisher wants me at 250 for surgery too! But to me that's 84 lbs. I'm sitting around 46 lbs lost. I've kinda plateaued. I think my body has to adjust to this and I think the stress is causing it too. And my skin doesn't like the stress either. Ugh. As far as the 1200 calorie diet, I don't alter it all that much. During the first week I had to remind myself that it's ok to be hungry, I wasn't going to starve. I do the Protein first, (and I got out my food scale) then I have my fruit/veggies and do my carbs last, if there's room in there. This is a most of the time thing. I'll have a lot of salads with chicken and cheese, or I'll do a Breakfast burito with 1 scrambled egg, 1 oz diced ham, 1 oz cheese on a low carb tortilla. It was really hard starting the 1200 cal plan, but I'm good now. I've been more successful than I've ever been. When I was 19, I lost 17lbs, it was the only other success I've ever had. I think Dr Fisher's weight goals do have a lot to do with where you carry your weight. I carry it all in my boobs and belly, thus 84 lbs to lose. Although I sometimes wonder if Dr. Fisher realized how much he wanted me to lose. I went in feeling good about how much I had already lost, and he never said a thing about it! The funny thing is now I don't feel like I'm going to be ready for surgery! With the exception of these last 2 weeks now, I've been losing fast. (approx 48 lbs in about 10 weeks). Stick with the diet! Don't snack. And exercise. I try to get 1 hr cardio in 5 days per week. School is keeping me a little busy right now, so I haven't been to the gym since Sunday, but I'll get back to it tomorrow. Candra- Congrats on your surgery date!!

I would love to do a get together in Fairfield! I'm so bummed I had to miss the meeting on Sat. But my teacher scheduled a "field trip" to go to his house in Sutter Creek and he took us to an old mine and then we bbq'd at his place. We were supposed to talk about our papers, but that never happened. Oh well. I'd love to have another Sac-area meeting. I heard a rumor there was a Monday night meeting in Elk Grove, but I'll have to look into it. It would help to see eachother more often, and have an option when your teacher messes with your meeting! I can't meet up this week. My 9/80 is the opposite week (on Thursdays). I have 2 more weeks of school, then I have 1 week off and the next semester starts. I will still be going only 1 night a week (Tuesdays). I've been on a little plateau apparently. I thought I lost those pounds but they missed me and came back. It's funny, I've been losing so much so fast that I almost feel like a total failure when I stall or lose really slowly. I had 1 week where I didn't lose anything (I was sick too) and I was bummed! Now I've been playing with this 5-6 pounds and I'm anxious to get them off! I think it's because they're milestone pounds. I'm so close to 50 lbs lost I can just taste it. I want it, dang it! Goodnight ladies. I should not be up this late! 5:30's coming even faster now Pam!

Nicole! Sunsplash sounds fun. I've grounded myself. I have got to get my homework done. And clean my house. I'm so grounded. Like I said on my FB, I should put "Waste time" on my to-do list today so I could actually cross something off! At least I got a little research done yesterday. Friday night was pretty cool, my coworkers all got together with our S.O.s for a softball game and a bbq. I was the only person to not hit the ball at all. I used to play softball as a kid, so I assumed I'd be awesome or something! Well, at least I ran to catch the ball when it came my direction. And, I ran in and out when we changed innings. So that was nice. Of course, I tried to be good at the bbq, but I had a few handfuls of chips, a salsa/salad/dip thing with corn, tomatoes, avocados etc., And I had a burger with a real bun. It was pretty tasty, but I'm back on track today. And, in the 2 bbqs this weekend (I had one yesteday at my teachers house) I didn't have a single soda (Quit cold-turkey on the day of orientation). So here's to changing! Other activity ideas: State Fair is coming... Sun Splash in Roseville has night slide... Batting Cages... Swimming at a public pool... um, I should really do this dang work and not make a list of things I'd rather be doing!

College Students Report Here!
I'm a criminal justice major at a satellite school. It's tiny, and the campus is in an office building. Classes are from 6-10:30 pm. 2 nights each week is considered full time. We have 5 9-week sessions per year. I have a hard time finding the right things to eat in class. Everyone brings dinner, but their "dinner" comes from the vending machines. I also start to feel guilty because I can't exercise on nights I have class. I work full time (days) and live with my fella. No kids though. How do people work fill time, school full time, raise a family, cook healthy meals and still sleep? I haven't been banded yet, still need to lose about 30 more lbs before surgery.

If anyone is interested in another 5k.... Sac Co. Sheriff K9 assoc. is having a 5k to raise money for Kaleo, the K9 who had to be retired after only 5 years. Poor pup got cancer. Since the dog is retired, the dept doesn't pay for medical anymore. It's a 5k along the American River Parkway, so it should be nice. August 23, 8am. $25. Starts at the Sheriff's training facility on Riverwalk in Carmichael.

Thanks Riley! I think I still have a ton of bad habits from high school and my previous schools. I never had to change them, now I really do. But hey, I'm changing myself for the better in any way I can... I'm being the best me I can be so I may as well tackle this too!

Hello Ladies! I'm missing the meeting today. And I'm bummed to be missing it. I know Donna's doing a great job, I can feel it! I have 2 weeks left of school and have so much to do. I have a 2 page paper to write, a 10 page research paper to research, write and do a little oral presentation on ot (either today or Tuesday night... I going for Tues!) and we get our final today, due in about 10 days. I don't know how some people can do this, and work full time and have the kiddos! I'm slightly overwhelmed by just working and going to school. As the boyfriend pointed out, I'm also doing my whole "Lap-band thing". And he made me realize that it's also stressful. It's good stress, but I'm doing all these new things at the same time. (Starting a new school with a super accelerated pace and trying to lose all this dang weight). Some days I just don't know which is best, spend my time working on school or going to the gym. I need to do both but I can't decide. I wish I could do it all. Why can't I be some kind of superwoman? Imagine... working full time, school full time, exercies an hour each night, cook healthy meals each night and keep a clean house... Okay, maybe that last bit was too much to ask. I'm finally losing those few pounds I found this last week. It was because I told you guys I saw my 50lb loss. Well, it was gone with the blink of an eye. I gained 5 back, probably from my head getting so big, lol! Now, I'm back on track and I hope to have my 50lb loss in the bag this week. Yay! Congrats to Candra! You're under goal! Go you!

That's right! Meeting at Kaiser Point West this Saturday! I have to leave early because my class was changed to a bbq at my teacher's house on Saturday. I have to present my paper. Better get started on that. So glad I have tomorrow off! Of course, I've already scheduled my day... totally over scheduled. Dentist appt, Water aerobics (1st time), stop by parents house, stop by aunt's house, costco, Laundry, Meet with Financial Aid lady at school. I'll fit the homework in there somewhere! I wish I worked 4 10s instead of the 9/80. I'm thankful I have at least a 9/80, but only 1 day every 2 weeks- it just doesn't come around enough!

I can't change my ticker just yet. Boo. I'm back up a few pounds. I think it's just my cycle messing with me. I lost throughout the aunt's visit, and now am back up a few. When I'm solidly at 50 lbs lost, you better believe I'm changing that ticker. But, I saw the 50lbs lost on the scale, so I know I'll be there soon.

Jes, I so know what you mean about eating around friends. Dr. Fisher said that would be a problem for young people. You know... peer pressure and all. Ok ladies. I've procrastinated with a paper for school for way too long. I don't even have a topic yet. Can anyone think of a good topic for 6-10 pages on white collar crime or something crime related? Jeez, I've procrastinated so long you'd think I was a legislator or something!

I'm still in a variety of sizes! We should find some time to meet up this week Tina! I hear you on the carbs too. I walked down the bread isle this morning at the store and caught myself doing a "sigh, I miss bread". Seriously! But I guess I don't miss it that much, because I've got results to replace my bread!

Oh, and the dress is an 18/20! What?! I wore my size 26 shorts to the store, and left with an 18/20 dress. I love it!

Thanks ladies! I'm really excited. I was feeling kinda bummed since I got another email ad from igigi.com. If you haven't shopped there, they have beautiful clothes. I haven't really had any occasion to shop there and their clothes are really expensive (to me at least!) I feel like I can't spend $100 on a dress that won't fit in a few months and I have no reason to wear now. So, I went to Wally world today. I don't shop there often, the one near me is kinda gross. I decided to peek at the clothes. (BTW why must they constantly move their plus size section?! I just want to go directly to my size, not wander around looking for it!) Anyway, I saw this dress on a random rack. It looked so lonely all by itself. Well, it was a 2x and it fit! I haven't been a 2x in probably 5-6 years now. I'm so excited. I added a pic to my album.

That's so funny, Dr. Fisher didn't even suggest I get RNY (And I have a bunch more to lose than youse guys!). For your new ladies, I have to lose 84 lbs pre-op. It's wierd. I'm now feeling that I'm not going to be ready for surgery in a few months. Like, I'm losing so fast maybe I just keep doing the pre-op diet and see how it goes. Anyone else feel like that? Tina- we got the seniority list emailed dept-wide. Oh, and I'm never the same weight all day long. It's like I can never trust my scale, I have to take a few measurements throughout the day. My mom is the same way, I can vary 4 lbs in any given day so I just count my morning weight as my true weight.

Well, I fully expect a few more rounds of layoffs. That's why I'm not house shopping like I was a few months ago. :scared2: However, we still haven't had our layoffs yet. People should find out officially tomorrow. The term date is Aug 1. They did send out the seniority list and I'm sitting pretty high. Well not high but not low! The board did decide to restore some more money, equals about 70 deputies (out of over 200). Something wierd today, I've been the same weight all day. (288.2) The same weight first thing in the morning, after work and evening. Not normal for me. Goodnight ladies!
