  1. I broke off with my family. It was a very difficult decision. I unfortunatly don't have time to discuss it further, but I will definatley share my experience with you tomorrow. I know how much it means to hear from people in the same boat when it's concerning your parents.
  2. I have a question for Nicolerose. And for everyone really. Did your surgeon fill your band with 5cc's right away at once? My surgeon will only do 1cc at a time, right now I only have 4cc's in. I'm going for another fill july 24th, hopefully that will make a difference for me.

This thread is for anyone who needs to rant. It is also for anyone who wants to give advice on succeeding this rotton up and down battle with trying to lose what feels like a million pounds when the damn scale won't budge! I think I have the right to rant because I am sick of getting up at 5:00 am everyday to work out when obviously I'd rather be sleeping. Ok so my diet isn't always perfect. I'm not a perfect person!!! With all the working out I do and eating healthy most of the time, shouldn't that count for something?!!! But I get on the scale, It starts to move the right direction and then a few days later, guess what? I gain back a couple pounds or so! Some days I feel like giving up. I feel like I'm barley hanging on. I'm sure there are others who have had the same experience. If so and you've overcome it please share your story. Even if you never had this problem and was successful or just have words of encouragement please share. I'm feeling desparate! Please Help!!!!:frown::sad::)
  4. I know what you mean. There are times I'm able to gety down mor than I know I should simply because whatever I'm eating tastes so good. Also before I was banded, I often ate a big variety of food at each meal. There were times I'd have 2 different kinds of sandwiches or like pizza and chicken. I just ate a ton of food. I certainly do much better than I used to, but the temptation is still there and I often crave things. Where did you stART your blog?
  5. To all who are either close to your goal or at goal, Did you mainly eat what you wanted in "moderation/portion control" or did you cut out foods and follow a strict diet?
  6. That's terrible that things get stuck for you so often. How many adjustments have you had? Are you chewing to "apple sauce like" consistancy? I mean I'm glad to hear you don't eat all the junk I have, but I just wonder if you're not getting enough variety of food. Well I'm working on changing my evil ways. So far today all I've had is some cereal, so I'm off to a good start. Exercise is going great. Also keep in mind when you start exercising it is very possible to gain weight at first because your body is building muscle. Your body will use more water to build this muscle there for your body will temporarily retain some water. And it is also possible for the scale to stand still up to three months. I'm not trying to be negative I'm just preparing you because I don't want you to give up and stop exercising if the results aren't very good at first. But if you stick with it it will be very well worth it. You will be healthier and lose inches. That is something else I do, I measure myself one a month to see what I'm losing in inches, and it is amazing sometimes. Sometimes the scale doesn't move much but I sure do lose inches and my clothes fit so much better. My main problem is my darn belly. But i'm sure my terrible diet played a big part in that. Yay! so you'll start exercising, I'll stop eating too many things I shouldn't and we'll be on our way!
  7. I try to follow the "lap band rules", but there are times when I eat things like fast food, ice cream. More often than I should. Also things like white bread, pasta, chips, pizza. Well I guess it should come as no surprise to me that my progress has stopped! But I am trying to clean up my act and have those types of foods much less often. I can't say never, that would be unrealistic, but certainly it needs to be a lot less. Shame on me!!! I plan on going back to my "successful" foods like baked chicken, baked fish, steamed veggies, fruit, hot cereal etc. Starting to exercise should really help. What type of exercise do you plan on doing?
  8. I feel your pain. I've had my band about a year and a half now, I went from 258 to 203 now back to 207. I work out faithfully 5 days/week. I have to be honest my diet isn't always very good. But whether or not I have the right I still feel frustrated. I know I really need to improve my diet. Sometimes I could kick myself, I have half the battle down. I'm able to keep myself motivated to exercise! Why do i keep sabbotaging by eating things that are such poor choices?!!! Anyway I sympathize with you. I guess I need to restart my journal too. Good luck to you, don't give up. By the way are you exercising?
  9. Hey there to all bandsters! I'm just wondering if anyone has had as much difficulty as I am trying to shrink my belly! I work out faithfully 5 days/week. I do not eat large portions. For the most part my diet is healthy, but to be honest I do eat not so healthy things also. Has anyone had this problem and overcome it? If so how? Was anyone lucky enough to not have this problem?!!! If so what type of diet and exercise habits did you follow? I'm so FRUSTRATED!!!!
  10. What Kristine73 said is very true, different meds work very differently for different people. It's interesting she said wellbutrin made her eat more. Many people have taken wellbutrin to cure cravings, some have used it for weight loss and to quit smoking. The weight gain possibility on it is very low, and as i said some people actually lose weight on it. I take wellbutrin for depression. It didn't help me lose weight, but it certainly helped my depression. It didn't make me gain gain weight either. Good luck. As mentioned above it may be a good idea to see a psych specialist to prescribe these types of meds .
  11. One good question is what types of medication do you take(if any). If you take a lot of anti inflammatory meds(Ibuprophen, most arthritis meds etc) those can cause erosion.
  12. I voted "other". I guess I would try to figure it out if I was frantic and choking (I have access to stuff I work in the medical field). and had no other way, but I really hope I'm never in that situation. I would be really scared to do it myself. I would never attend a fill party. YIKES!!!
  13. My doctor told me if the band is "tight" in the morning to drink hot tea to get it feeling normal again.
  14. I agree this should be told to every patient. Also i have to wonder what happens to patients who's surgeon either moves out of the country or God forbid if the surgeon dies?!! it doesn't make sense either. I mean if you have a heart surgery and move to a different state and need to see a heart surgeon again you're not going to be refused! or shouldn't be anyway. Anyway I agree with your rant 100%. Hope everything works out well for you.
  15. I have been somewhat scared of the whole band slippage. I want to know from people who have had their band slip, what caused your slip? Also are you a soda drinker?:cursing:
  16. Wow! We are almost exact. I sarted at 258 and am now 203. Everyone is exactly right saying you shouldn't compare yourself to others. I work with 2 other people who got the band and have lost much more than me, but they were much heavier than me to begin with, so everyone is correct about the BMI. I am developing a new attitude. I am trying to focus more on how I feel, the way my clothes fit and just being happy with the progress I have made. I was putting way to much stock in the number on the scale. This web site has helped me look at things differently. Thank you for your response.
  17. None what so ever! I'm thrilled that I did it. Of course it's normal to be a little nervous, it is life changing. But when I tried to lose weight without the band I always felt HUNGRY and miserable. I couldn't go on living obsese, but couldn't live with starving all the time either. I've had my band a little over a year now my starting weight was 258 and my current weight is 203. I feel great. It is so nice to eat "normal" portions and not feel hungry. Good luck!
  18. I got banded 2-5-08 starting weight was 258, i hit my all time low on 5-8-09 at 203 and blew it last week. I ate a lot of things I shouldn't have and drank a lot of soda. I'm not sure why I self destructed, but I am pretty angry with myself because I gained about 5 pounds back. Also it just makes me feel depressed when I lose control like that. Especially since my progress has been slow as it is. The only positive I can say is I'm doing excellent with my work outs 5 days /week. I just want to stop destroying my progress!
  19. YES I MISS IT!!!! I love COKE. I go as long as I can without one, but eventually give in and have one, and then beat myself up for it. I haven't had any problems doing this except for the obvious, it will slow down the weight loss progress.
  20. Yes, the liquid diet is a killer!!! But it is well worth it so stay focused on why you're doing it. I lost 18 pounds on the liquid diet alone! By the way are you a wrestling fan? The big show is why i ask.
  21. Has anybody tried ways to speed up their weight loss such as diet pills, water pills, particular types of diets etc? if so were you successful? If you were successful how did you do it? I'm tired of the SLOW PACE.
  22. I also weigh myself every morning, no clothes! Sometimes I gain 2 0r 3 pounds suddenly. Sometimes It's because I either ate too much for a day or two, but sometimes it comes as a surprise and i'm like YIKES! But I agree, then I know I need to pay more attention to what I eat and drink, and it gets me more motivated for my next work out. Bottom line is I think you should do what's comfortable for you.
  23. My doctor prescribed tylenol with codien. Just make sure you DO NOT take Ibuprophen, motrin, advil, any "anti inflammatory" drugs because they can possibly cause the band to erode into your stomach. I don't know how often that has happened, but it's better to be safe.
  24. I was curious to see examples of peoples diets and exercise programs that have had fast weight loss on lapband(70 or more pounds in the first year).
  25. sOUNDS LIKE YOUR BODY JUST NEEDS TO ADJUST TO REAL FOOD AGAIN. i'VE HEARD THAT EATING UNDER 1200 CALORIES CAN SOMETIMES CAUSE A STOP IN WEIGHT LOSS BECAUSE YOUR BODY THINKS IT'S STARVING AND IS HOLDING ON TO EVERYTHING.
