Golflady got a reaction from Kimberly Bouche-Perez in Beginning the Process of getting a revision and scared of being a failure again!
It usually takes some time before you start losing with a lap band because you have to wait to get enough fills put in... With bypass you lose weight at first but then it slows down (it is slower for us with a revision). You need to remember it's just a tool. You will not be successful unless you have good choices in food and exercise. It is easy to get full on lower calorie foods and not eat much, that is the plus! I love sweets (ice cream) but it makes me feel horrible (headache, tiredness, dumping) so I choose not to eat them or foods with high fats. If I do eat the higher calorie foods the weight stays on. It will work but it will be up to you. You are not a failure! Dig deep and find your determination.

Golflady got a reaction from Notinks in Band to Bypass.....a few comparison questions!
I think Bypass is so much better! I love only eating a small amount and no issues except if I eat rice or dry meats. Sweets and fats give me a headache and just don't feel good so it's a great deterrent. Yes I can a small piece of chocolate but that's it because any more than that and I will be sorry ????????

So everyone I had lap band done first in 2009 with two slips and removed this past April. I wish I done bypass to begin with.. I am a month postop and it is so much better then the lap band would ever be.

If you could not tolerate it (everything got stuck) that is a good reason to have the band removed! Good luck on appeal!

Vinnie hang in there it gets better!! Look at my previous posts I am only two weeks out I was feeling the same way! Met with my dr on the 31st he put me on purees and soft foods k am feeling a lot better, granted I am not taking in all the necessary Protein but life's not as bad! I still have my days emotionally I am never se to eat like before, few bites I'm done. We just need to allow our body and mind to adjust to all these changes. But trust me if I can do it so can you! Hang in there. Let me know if you need any advise or support I'll help you as much as I can.

Thank you for your posts and updates. Your are an inspiration to me. I had first band in March 2008 and have gone through 2 slips and had RNY on Dec 15, 2014 and now 3 weeks post op and things are going well, just an adjustment as expected.

Golflady got a reaction from Heather_8.1.14 in Couldnt be happier with my second chance at life.
Today I am 1 week out on a revision after 2 failed lap bands. My journey started in 2008 with my first band placed in March 2009 and slipped December that year. This past April I had another slip and had to have it removed. I had a few more surgeries in between in joint replacements but finally got my by pass last week. I have been dealing with nausea and had to make a trip into ER for IV fluids. All is well so far and I am looking forward to finally making progress on permanent weight loss without all hassle that comes with the band.
Thank you so much for your post, it came at just the right time to know that I have made the best decision possible and that I too will be successful. Congratulations on your achievement, that is a wonderful gift.

Golflady got a reaction from smoggie in Can you ever eat "Normal" food again?
I am only 12 days out from surgery but I have a friend who is 2 years and she eats salads, hamburgers etc.. only just a few bites.. That is the difference. Her tummy is big so by the time she eats some salad and the burger shows up she only eats about 1/2 of it and takes it home to her hubby. She also is able to eat bread but chooses not to since she would rather eat the good stuff (unless it is really good bread ).

I have a desk job and took 2 weeks off. I go back on Monday and have low energy but think I will be fine. As a small firm they are not under the FMLA rules but I think a talk from the heart with your manager is your best bet. If you can get the surgery earlier in the month the better since taxes get busier towards the end January. Good luck!
